By Eleanor O'Neil, Senior Meteorologist

Cold front rain is expected to move eastward across Ireland and western Scotland during the course of Friday whilst it will be dry with hazy sunshine across England and Wales. The rain will edge into northern England and Wales by the evening, turning more showery in nature across Ireland.

There will be moderate south-southwesterly winds, fresh across the west coasts of England and Wales. Maximum temperatures 12 to 16C in Scotland, 14 to 17C in Ireland and northern England, and 17 to 19C for Wales and central and southern England, possibly reaching 20C across the east and south east, 5 to 8C above normal for the time of year.

On Saturday the cold front will continue to spread eastwards overnight, lying across central and southern England by dawn and clearing to the east in the early afternoon, weakening as it does so with the far south east of England escaping largely dry, leaving a dry and sunny afternoon. In the meantime another frontal system will approach from the Atlantic bringing further rain and showers across the west with strong south westerly winds and possible gusts over 50mph for exposed western coastal areas. Expect it to turn cooler with temperatures around 11 to 13C across the north and west and 13 to 17C for central and southern areas, locally 18C across East and Anglia and the far south east.

Another cold front will push a band of rain south eastwards overnight, still clearing south east England through the day on Sunday. It will be drier across England and Wales but it will be a windy day with scattered showers along the west coast. More frequent showers, some heavy, are expected for the west of Ireland and western Scotland with fresh to strong and gusty winds. Temperatures across the north and west are expected to be around 9-12C with 12-15C across central and southern areas.
