Easter Eggstravaganza – Spring Sunshine and Warmer Weather By Matt Hugo - April 3, 2015 ![]() OVERVIEW: Despite a wet start to the Easter Weekend, the progression through the coming holiday weekend will be towards far more settled and drier conditions as high pressure becomes the dominant feature of the weather. Bright or sunny spells will develop and temperatures will also rise and particularly compared with of late it will feel much milder, if not warmer. ANALYSIS: ![]() 1) This is a weak area of low pressure but is producing the overcast and wet conditions across many areas of the UK throughout Good Friday. This area of low pressure will then decline away from the UK into the near continent later today and overnight into Saturday. 2) This is a developing area of high pressure, our region of high pressure that will settle the weather down throughout the rest of the Easter Weekend and well into next week too. As the area of low pressure across the UK on Good Friday clears this then allows this region of high pressure to build into the UK from the west and south-west in the coming days. REST of GOOD FRIDAY: Low pressure will remain over the UK throughout the rest of the day but with a trend for it to move towards the south and south-east before clearing away into the overnight period. The low pressure will be responsible for producing a mostly cloudy or overcast day across many areas with regions of rain, drizzle and showers at times. The trend through the day will be for the precipitation to gradually ease and fragment and by this evening and overnight many areas will become predominantly dry. The best of the conditions through Friday afternoon will be across Ireland where some bright or sunny spells are expected to develop. The 3KM model highlights this evolution well and note the quite widespread precipitation through Friday morning, before this then gradually weakens and fragments during the second half of the day and beyond. ![]() SATURDAY, EASTER SUNDAY and MONDAY: The remainder of the weekend can be grouped together. As Friday’s low pressure clears high pressure will then build into all areas of the UK throughout the rest of the weekend and will signal predominantly dry conditions. Each day will be characterised by some bright or sunny spells, but also with variable amounts of cloud at times too. Emphasis has to be placed on this situation, because despite some areas experiencing some decent bright or sunny spells at times, to balance this out there will also be regions of quite persistent cloud cover. Given the expected position of the high pressure over the UK then weak weather fronts may well skirt around the flank of the high pressure to bring some patchy rain or a few showers at times to the far north of Scotland and perhaps the far E and SE of England, but overall emphasis is on a lot of dry weather. Nights will be chilly still where any cloud breaks occur, but no widespread frosts are expected. By day temperatures will steadily rise over the weekend and in any sunshine in particular it will feel pleasantly warm and much milder than of late given the cold and windy conditions that have dominated for most of this past week. The GFS model highlights this general evolution quite accurately and note the 3 forecast charts below for midday on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I’ve annotated the images showing where the main area of high pressure is and as can be seen it is clearly dominant over the UK. Note the weak signal for some precipitation though across NW Scotland and SE England on Saturday and then also across E Anglia and SE England by Easter Monday. This, again, highlights the risk of a little light rain or isolated showers, but the overall theme is for plenty of dry weather with bright or sunny spells at times. ![]() TEMPERATURES: There will be some local and regional variations in temperatures this coming week given that some areas will see more in the way of sunshine than compared with others that see more cloud. At this time of the year any stubborn cloud can maintain quite depressed temperatures, but equally the increasingly ‘strong’ April sunshine can allow temperatures to rise quite steadily. Overall though the trend through the weekend is for temperatures to rise with highs, generally, ranging between 9C and 14C through Saturday to Monday and perhaps with locally higher totals depending on sunshine amounts on a local and regional scale. Friday (today) will be a little cooler with highs ranging between 5C and 9C, though locally 10C or 11C. The GFS model highlights the expected maximum temperatures on Saturday, Sunday and Monday below and note the general trend for temperatures to steadily rise over the weekend. The GFS may well be over-cooking the temperatures somewhat by the time we get to Easter Monday with it signalling more in the way of sunshine than is expected and hence higher temperatures. However, it clearly highlights some particularly pleasant temperatures than compared with of late and again in any sunshine and light winds it will feel pleasantly warm as the weekend progresses with temperatures comfortably reaching the ‘low teens’ at times. Some chilly nights are possible beneath clear skies, but overall no widespread frosts are expected and minimum temperatures will, generally, be rather insignificant. ![]() Happy Easter to one and all… Chief Forecaster: MH Source Info: eumetrain.org Link .................... http://www.ukweatherforecast.co.uk/easter-eggstravaganza-spring-sunshine-and-warmer-weather/ Source ...............
