Warm and Sunny but Changes Ahead By Matt Hugo - April 6, 2015 12:22![]() Whilst not everywhere has been basking in some spring sunshine and warmth, the overall conditions have been a marked improvement of late and yesterday (Sunday 5th) was the warmest day of the year so far with 20.7C being recorded in Aboyne and a number of other locations did reach 20C as well. Clearly coastal fog and some local cloud have plagued some areas and kept temperatures lower, but for the bulk of the UK it’s been a fine and settled Easter Weekend, the reason? High Pressure… ![]() The two primary features that dominate the UK’s weather is high pressure and low pressure. Low pressure systems allow air to rise and create clouds which, as a result, often lead to rain and showers. However, the opposite occurs beneath areas of high pressure with air descending and this helps to stop clouds from developing and thus creates fine and settled conditions. The good weather at the moment is set to continue throughout the majority of the coming week, so there’s a number of days left yet to see some spring sunshine and pleasant temperatures. However, there is now a growing signal for more unsettled and cooler conditions to develop by the end of the week and into next weekend. The latest GFS model highlights this change below… ![]() What is currently expected to happen is that whilst most of England and Wales may have another warm and dry day on Friday a weather front will move into the UK from the west, as is evident on the weather chart for Friday at 6pm. Note how by Saturday morning (6am on the 11th) there is a much greater risk of rain or showers, especially in the north and west, along with a cooler, if not colder W or NW’ly wind off the Atlantic. Clearly it is still early April and the warm and sunny conditions couldn’t last forever, so enjoy the next few days as changes are on the way by the end of the week and into next weekend. We’ll have more details through the week in our video briefs and also within the mid-week update and analysis on Wednesday.
