WEEK AHEAD WEATHER.

Monday, April 27, 2015, 09:06 GMT -
Chilly and breezy with frequent showers, some wintry on northern high ground.

We might be heading into May at the end of this week, but the UK’s weather will definitely have a wintry feel to it over the next few days.

Unlike much of April which has seen areas of high pressure dominate the UK’s weather, low pressure will be in charge throughout much of the week.

As such, there will be frequent showers, these heavy at times and wintry over northern high ground.

With winds predominantly from a north-westerly direction, cold air from Iceland will be dragged towards the country and as such temperatures will be significantly lower than what we have seen throughout much of April.

Daytime highs will struggle to even get into double figures, while overnight frosts will be a common feature, particularly in rural parts of the north.

Tuesday

A cold and breezy day with sunny spells and showers, the showers heaviest and most frequent across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England with some sleet and snow over the hills.

The rest of England and Wales should be drier with variable amounts of sunshine, although a few showers are likely at times, particularly during the middle part of the day.

Feeling cold, particularly in the brisk winds and in any heavy showers. Highs of just 6-9C in the north and 9-12C further south.

Wednesday

Starting off dry and bright in the south and east of England, but a band of showery rain will spread east across all areas of the UK through the day.

Some of the rain will be heavy with some sleet and wet snow over the Scottish hills and the Pennines.

Turning brighter from the west during the afternoon with scattered showers, but the rain may linger in north-east Scotland and southern England.

Another breezy and chilly day with temperature remaining in single figures in the north and perhaps reaching 11C or 12C in the south.

Thursday

Sunny spells and scattered showers on Thursday, with the showers heaviest and most frequent down the eastern side of the UK with the odd rumble of thunder possible.

Fewer showers for Northern Ireland, western Scotland, Wales and south-west England with more in the way of sunshine.

Feeling cold once again with a brisk northerly winds and feeling particularly chilly down North Sea coasts.

Friday

Perhaps the best day of the week with lighter winds and fewer showers and it should feel less cold compared to the rest of the week.

There will be a fair amount of cloud, but some sunny spells will develop at times, particularly across Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

There will still be the risk of one or two showers and a more prolonged spell of rain may edge into south-west England and south Wales.

After a cold and locally frosty start, temperatures will rise to highs of 9-12C.
The Bank Holiday Weekend

There is a fair amount of uncertainty regarding the weather for the end of the week, but currently looks like northern areas will see the driest conditions while southern parts will be more prone to outbreaks of rain.

It will also remain on the chilly side with winds generally from a northerly direction with daytime highs once again struggling to get much into double figures.
