Mid-May Warmth and Sunshine!![]() Within this week’s Long Range Forecast, issued on Tuesday, it was highlighted that towards mid-May there could well be changes in the weather as higher pressure becomes more dominant and influential. Clearly as we progress into May any high pressure would now, more often than not, bring fine, settled, sunny and warm conditions. Clearly of late the weather has changed compared to what the majority of April has brought, with far cooler and more unsettled conditions in evidence to end April. That general trend will continue into the early part of May so no immediate change to better weather is expected. However, here at UKWF HQ we are always keeping an eye on the weather models, particularly a certain set of weather models called ‘ensembles’. These are particularly important within the medium and longer term as can give some guidance as to how the weather may develop and, as usual, it is very important to know the general location of low pressure or high pressure weather systems. Well, continuing on from the latest Long Range Forecast, there is a growing signal for better weather to develop as we approach mid-May. The latest GFS model highlights this below and note for the 9th of May high pressure is building up into the UK from the south-west and this particular model is signalling pressure to be perhaps as high as 1028mb across most areas of the UK, clearly this is high pressure. ![]() Clearly there is a long way to go before we start approaching mid-May and the weather can and does change, but there are definitely some positive and consistent signs for a change in the weather to something warmer, drier and sunnier as early May progresses and particularly by the time we get towards mid-May. As ever we’ll keep you updated in the coming days and weeks and don’t forget our Long Range Forecast is updated once a week on a Tuesday’s and this will continue to provide guidance as to how the weather may well evolve within the medium and longer term.
