WEEK AHEAD WEATHER. Tuesday, May 05, 2015, 10:00 GMT - A fairly unsettled week with all of us seeing some heavy rain at times. The bank holiday weekend was a rather changeable one with cloud, rain, thunderstorms and warm sunshine all thrown in. The weather is set to remain rather unsettled and variable throughout the working week, with all of us seeing some heavy rain at times. Tuesday will be a particularly wet and windy day, with heavy rain edging north, followed by strong winds and scattered showers. A wind warning for southern Britain as been issued until the end of the day for gusts of 50-60mph, while Northern Ireland has a heavy rain warning in force too. Details of all UK weather warnings can be seen here. For the rest of the week, there will be some heavy showers for all of us at times, but hopefully there will be some warm sunshine too, with Thursday and Sunday currently looking like the driest days of the week. Wednesday A windy and showery day is expected for much of the UK with the showers heavy and frequent at times. Most of the showers will be across western areas to start, but they will transfer east as the day goes on with some thunderstorms and hail likely too. There should be some sunny spells between the showers, with perhaps the south coast of England see the most prolonged bright spells. The far north of Scotland and the Northern Isles are likely to see a more prolonged spell of rain which will last all day in places. A windy day once again, particularly in the south, where gusts over 50mph are likely around the coasts of south Wales and southern England. Feeling cool with the strong winds and the showers. Temperatures generally reaching highs in the low to mid teens. Thursday Thursday should be a slightly drier and brighter day for much of the UK. There will be a scattering of showers and almost anyone could see one, but they will be lighter and much less frequent than Wednesday with plenty of sunshine in-between. Northern and western Scotland will be an exception however, with fairly frequent and heavy showers here. It will also be a windy day in the north-west of the UK with gusts over 50mph around exposed coasts and hills. A cool day in the north-west with temperatures struggling to hit double figures. Feeling warmer in the sunshine elsewhere, with highs reaching 16-18C in the south-east. Friday A dry start to the day for many, but rain will already be across south-west England first thing and will then steadily push north-eastwards through Friday. Some of the rain will be heavy in the south and west by the afternoon but will be fairly patchy elsewhere. Northern and central Scotland should remain dry all day with some sunny spells, although Shetland will likely see some heavy rain for a time. Temperatures slightly down on Thursday’s values in the south with highs generally reaching the low to mid teens Celsius. The weekend Saturday currently looks like being the worst day of the weekend with all of the UK likely to see some heavy showers or longer spells of rain. It is also likely to be fairly winds in places too and it will feel cool for early May in the heavy showers too. However, there are signs that Sunday will be a drier and brighter day as a ridge of high pressure moves across the UK. There could still be one or two showers, but many should be dry with some decent sunny spells and as such temperatures should be higher.
