Spring Bank Holiday Weekend Weather Forecast. Thursday, May 21, 2015, 09:00 GMT - A generally dry Bank Holiday weekend, but with a little rain in places. It’s been a very wet May so far, with Met Office stats showing the UK had more than a month’s worth of rain in just the first 17 days of the month. But drier conditions are developing in time for the Bank Holiday weekend as a ridge of high pressure builds up from the south-west. Frontal systems will still bring some patchy rain to northern areas of the UK at times, notably on Saturday night and for a time on Sunday. However, some areas will remain completely dry for the whole of the weekend, notably areas closet to the area of high pressure – southern England and south Wales. Saturday A generally dry day across the UK but with a fair amount of cloud around. The cloud will be thickest across England with the small chance of a few isolated showers across southern counties. The best of any sunshine will likely be across south-west England, Wales, southern Scotland and the far north of England. Some sunshine for the rest of Scotland and Northern Ireland too, but cloud will thicken here during the afternoon as rain edges into north-west Scotland by the evening. Temperatures generally in the mid to high teens, with the warmest conditions where there is some lengthy sunny spells – so south-west England, Wales, Northern Ireland and southern and eastern parts of Scotland. Sunday Cloud and rain will push east overnight into Sunday, giving a dull and wet start to the day for Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far north of England. The rain may edge further south and east during the morning, giving a brief spell of rain to northern England and north Wales before dying out. The rest of England and Wales should stay largely dry with just an increase if cloud into the afternoon and the small risk of an isolated shower, particularly across south-east England and East Anglia. Turning drier further north too as the rain clears with some sunny spells, but a scattering of showers will affect western Scotland and the Northern Isles. A fairly warm day for England and Wales with highs of 15-18C, with 20C locally possible. Much cooler further north with highs generally of 9-12C. Bank Holiday Monday The Bank Holiday itself is looking predominantly dry across much of the UK, although there is likely to be a fair amount of cloud. The cloud will be thick enough at times for some patchy rain across the hills of western Scotland, north-west England and Northern Ireland. The best of the sunshine will likely be reserved for south-west England and south Wales where temperatures could get to 16-18C. But elsewhere, it will be a cooler day thanks to the cloud cover and a north-westerly breeze – highs generally of 12-15C. Next week It's half term next week and it's looking largely dry through Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be a fair amount of cloud still, but in any sunny breaks, temperatures will climb into the high teens. Later in the week, there is the risk of a spell of wet weather spreading across the country, but this should only last a couple of days. By .............
