Freighter Majed and Randy collided with a building in Istanbul July 21, 2015 General cargo vessel Majed and Randy suffered steering failure at 1254 LT July 21 in Bosphorus Strait in front of Kanlica, north of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and ran into embankment and a house, see photo. Vessel was taken to an anchorage afterwards, no water ingress, no leak reported. Vessel is en route Capu Midia Romania, Black sea, to Beirut. At 1300 UTC July 21 vessel was still at anchor. General cargo vessel Majed and Randy, IMO 8000305, dwt 6476, built 1980, flag Sierra Leone, manager FARAH-M SHIPPING LTD. ![]() Source:

Cargo Ship Smashes Villa in Bosphorus Strait – INCIDENT PHOTOS July 21, 2015 by Mike Schuler ![]() Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait was closed to ship traffic Tuesday after a cargo ship ran into a shoreside villa. The accident occurred at 12:58 p.m. Tuesday when the 106-meter Sierra Leone-flagged Majed & Randy slammed into the villa near Istanbul’s Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge after experiencing a rudder malfunction. ![]() GAC Shipping said that cargo ship had no pilot on board at the time of the allision. Turkey’s General Directorate of Coast Safety dispatched two tugs and pilot for assistance. The cargo ship remains at anchor in the general vicinity of the accident. ![]() There were no reports of pollution or injuries.
