DAKAR (AFP) - A medical evacuation plane carrying seven people, including a French patient, crashed off the coast of Senegal, aviation sources said Sunday.

Contact with the twin-engine aircraft flying from Burkina Faso belonging to the private Senegalair company was lost shortly after 7 pm (1900 GMT) on Saturday, as it was flying over the Atlantic, 111 kilometres west of the capital Dakar, Senegal's civil aviation authority said in a statement.

The country's air force was searching the area for the plane, it said.
