General cargo vessel ALFA disaster, Korea Strait: UPDATE Monday, August 22, 2016 General cargo vessel ALFA issued distress signal at around 1700 Seoul time Aug 21, reporting heavy list 45 degrees, part of deck cargo, timber, went overboard. Vessel drifting in position 33 57N 128 02E, some 30 nm southeast of Yeosu, Korea, Korean Strait, en route from Nakhodka to China. Korean CG is on alert, nearby fishing vessels asked to come to distressed vessel, to rescue 15 Russian crew if necessary. 22 Aug UPDATE: 15 crew were rescued by Korean Coast Guard, no injures reported. Timber which went overboard is now drifting, posing a threat to shipping in the area. Vessel reportedly drifted to shallow and is now aground in position 33 54N 128 01E, 54 nm south-south-east from Yeosu, but this is not confirmed.
