Weather Forecast by the Irish Weather Network (IWN) Cloud and light rain in the west, drier with sun in the east. Feeling warm Picture by Daragh McDonoughIreland lies under a warm sector after a weak warm front moved in over the country during Tuesday. Limited sunshine to the east and north east during the day with mist and drizzle affecting the south, west and into the northwest and feeling humid in most places. Cloud has broken up more over the eastern half of the country as a ridge of high pressure over the UK extends towards us while a cold front approaches the west. Wednesday will start off misty across the majority of the country. Cloud will be more broken with good sunny spells developing across the eastern half of the country during the day. Sea fog in the Irish sea may drift close to the Leinster coast at times also. In the west, a stubborn low pressure system held back in the Atlantic by the ridge of high pressure will push the cold front in over the western areas bringing light rain and drizzle with it. This front may plague the west with cloud for most of Wednesday weakening all the time so it may dry out here with some sunshine appearing later in the day. The front moves back out into the Atlantic but may return overnight on Wednesday to the far southwest for a time. Warm in the sunshine with highs of 19 to 21C best in the midlands, east and north but held back to 15 or 16C in the west with the cloud and light rain and in the far south with onshore southerly breezes with low cloud and mist. Winds later becoming south easterly. Thursday, some lingering cloud in the south west will clear with sunshine developing everywhere as high pressure starts to dominate. Winds will back more to the east at this stage but remain mostly light. The west is best with temperatures at their highest where they could reach 22 or 23C in one or two places while further to the east it will feel fresher with onshore winds holding temps along the east and south coast to 16 or 17C. Some low cloud may drift in along the coast at times too. Friday will be warm and mostly sunny but fair weather cloud will bubble up across the country. At this stage it looks as if it will be the warmest day with highs of 22 to 24C warmest in the west and northwest. A risk of heavy showers developing in Munster in the late afternoon, set off due to the high temps. Onshore winds will keep the east coast that bit fresher. The weekend looks mostly settled but the battle between low and high pressure again resumes. Saturday looks a little breezy with temps falling back a degree or two but mainly dry with sunny spells with the risk of showers once again in the southwest. Sunday may turn cloudy from the south as a weather front tries to push north but this is not certain as yet. It will still be very mild with temps above average. The UV index will be medium to high on Tuesday but Wednesday onwards it will be high. Be warned that under a veil of high cloud, sunburn is still a risk. Source and credit to

Holiday weekend weather updated Holiday weekend weather - Rain for most, then drier and turning cooler. In Brief An update to the holiday weekend weather. Over the last few days, the models are having trouble with the rainfall intensity and how far north the rain goes. This is due to Low pressure moving up from the south battling against an area of high pressure centered over Iceland. The associated weather fronts from the low will slow down in their progress north across the country during Saturday and may never reach the far north of the country with places in Ulster possibly staying dry but this could all change on later runs. Rain sometimes heavy will affect Munster, Leinster and Connaught with potential of spot flooding in places as the rain persists. The rain should clear away to the southeast with drier and much cooler weather following on Sunday from the north. Monday will have a mixture of bright spells and showers mainly affecting the northern half of the country and feeling cool still. Another band of rain that was due to cross the country during Monday may hold off until after dark. Nights will be cold also. In Detail Saturday The day will start off cloudy over southern areas but cloud more broken with some sunshine across the northern half. Rain looks like arriving onto the Cork and Kerry coasts around 7am. This rain will gradually move into the rest of Munster during the morning and right along the south coast. At this stage the rain turns heavy over Munster and spreads into much of Leinster and Connaught during the afternoon where it will be light and patchy at first but a heavy pulse of rain later in the evening again moves north and stalls across the middle of the country. At the moment, 25 to 35mm is possible in the southwest by the end of the day with totals creeping up right across the middle of the country with spot flooding. This rain may only be light and patchy over Ulster and it could even stay dry in places here. In the late evening, drier weather moves into the southwest. A cool day with highs of just 13 to 17C with winds mainly easterly in direction and breezy. Temperatures will range from 4 to 8C overnight. Low cloud and hill fog will develop around the south, east and west coasts. Sunday Rain still affecting much of Leinster and Connaught will gradually move away to the south east during the afternoon but it may stay overcast and damp right into the evening in the southeast. The rain persisting from overnight on Saturday will leave some spot flooding in places. Brighter weather over the north will move south during the day so it looks like a bright but cool end to the day in the northern half on Sunday. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15C with winds now coming in from the east to northeast. A cold night on Sunday with lows of 3 to 7C under any clear skies with mist and fog forming. Monday Monday will be the best day with a good deal of bright weather. Showers will build over Ulster and spread into N Leinster and Connaught with the south holding onto dry and bright weather. Still feeling cool with temperatures around the low to mid teens with winds from a north east direction. More general cloud will develop in the southwest during the evening with rain after dark. Weather Forecast by the Irish Weather Network (IWN) Showery Wednesday, Washout on Thursday In Brief It will remain unsettled for the remainder of the working week as low pressure dominates the atmosphere with a showery day on Wednesday, heavy persistent rain with strong winds on Thursday followed by a blustery, cool and showery day for Friday. Not good reading for the first week of Summer. In Detail Wednesday will begin on a misty and foggy note with mostly cloudy skies. The sun will make an appearance during the morning but this will only bubble up cloud quickly. Showers will break out during the morning over Munster and these showers will become widespread through the afternoon with some downpours in places and the risk of isolated thunderstorms developing with all areas at risk. The winds will be mostly light so showers will be slow moving with winds freshening offshore in the south east during the afternoon. Temperatures will range 15 to 17C. Showers die away over the southern half of the country as more general cloud develops with rain after dark. This rain will become heavy in parts of Munster before the night is out with winds strengthening from a southerly direction. Thursday A wet start to the day over southern areas as an active system moves in from the southwest. Persistent and sometimes heavy rain will sweep countrywide as the day wears on with strong to gale force southerly winds. There is a risk of flooding once again from this next system with Munster bearing the brunt with high totals between 25 to 50mm again possible. These Atlantic fronts move into Leinster and Connaught during the morning and up into Ulster with 20 to 30mm in these provinces. Higher totals as ever over the mountains. Temperatures will be down again with 11 to 13C at best. This low pressure is not moving very far and the rain will persist for much of Thursday even into the overnight period but intensities will drop by then. A clearance moving into the west overnight into Friday morning with some showers following in here. Winds will back into the west to northwest and remain blustery.
