Chubu Electric will work to promote nuclear safety to local communities through nuclear laboratory to be built at Hamaoka 5 JUN 2012 ![]() Chubu Electric Power Co. announced May 31 that it will set up a nuclear safety technology laboratory as a subordinate organization of its research and development division and make the Hamaoka nuclear power station a research center as of July 1. It will invite nuclear, seismic, tsunami and disaster prevention specialists as advisors and use actual equipment to conduct research in close collaboration with plant personnel, and aims to promote nuclear specialists and convey their research results to local communities and society for disaster prevention purposes. It will also conduct research to improve nuclear safety using decommissioned facilities of Hamaoka units 1 and 2, radiation analysis rooms, seismic observation data and other research resources of the power station.
