MORE HEAVY RAIN SWEEPS ACROSS SOUTHERN ENGLAND AND WALES TONIGHT LIKELY BRINGING MORE FLOODING. THIS FRONT STALLS OVER NORTHERN IRELAND, CENTRAL, SOUTHERN SCOTLAND AND NORTHERN ENGLAND WHERE 1-2″ MAY FALL

After a fairly pleasant Thursday across much of the northern Rep, Northern Ireland and much of the UK, the wind and rain is coming and is already impacting southern Ireland. The leading edge of this next low will sweep a band of rain northeastwards through tonight bringing gusty winds with it across Southwest England eastwards to London, Kent and East Anglia and northwards up through Birmingham and Manchester by dawn Friday.

While the leading rain band clears the southern half of the UK between 8-10am heavy showers and thunderstorms will follow behind as sunshine enhances instability. The front north of Birmingham will slow down and drape across Northern Ireland, northern England and central, southern Scotland bringing a long lived period of rain lasting much of the day. Strong easterly winds picking up through the day to between 15-25 mph will accompany these rains making it feel raw with highs perhaps struggling to reach 10C in eastern areas. A miserible Friday is on tap here while from Cornwall to Manchester it should become brighter with sunny spells but those heavy and widespread showers will bring further heavy downpours to those areas which saw the overnight rain as well as the flooded areas which don’t need anymore rain. Further flooding is likely across the south with the ground saturated It only takes a little rainfall to bring more flooding while it will take a good bit more rain further north for flooding to occur.

During the afternoon while the centre of circulation slowly creeps northeastwards over Ireland and the Irish Sea, a second pulse of rain will sweep into the Southeast of England bringing more organised rains to London and East Anglia. As for the Southwest of the country, a bacth of strong winds topping 50 mph is likely along the coast.
