Evacuees visit family graves![]() Evacuees from a town near the disabled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant have visited their family graves for the first time in one and a half years after an entry ban was lifted. The evacuees arrived at a Buddhist temple in Naraha Town on Monday. People traditionally pay respects to their ancestors during the Bon holidays in mid-August. Visitors raised tombstones that were knocked over by last year's powerful March 11th earthquake. They cleaned the tombs, removed weeds and offered flowers and incense. Tsunami generated by the earthquake caused the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Residents were evacuated after the central government designated almost the entire town as a no-entry zone. The entry ban was lifted on Friday, and residents can now come and go freely during the day. A woman who came with her husband said this is their first visit to the temple in one and a half years. She also said they will become grandparents soon, and asked their ancestors to watch over the baby. Aug. 13, 2012 source:
