Over 60 Pct of Japanese Distrustful of Lawmakers

Tokyo, Aug. 31 (Jiji Press)--Over 60 pct of Japanese people are distrustful of lawmakers, a survey by Central Research Services Inc., a Jiji Press affiliate, revealed Friday.

The proportion of those who say they do not trust lawmakers rose to 63 pct from 47 pct in the previous survey in December 2009.

The survey, conducted May 10-20, covered 4,000 adults chosen at random across the country. Of them, 1,272 gave valid responses.

Respondents were asked to rate their levels of trust in lawmakers, bureaucrats, judges, media organizations, banks, large corporations, medical institutions, police, the Self-Defense Forces and teachers on a rising scale of one to 5.

Lawmakers received the lowest average level, at 2.1, down 0.3 point from the previous survey.

The latest survey showed that 63 pct chose one or 2 for lawmakers.
