Greetings All,

I am a completely new player but have a decent understanding of the rules, I have just got into 40k after playing Fantasy for about 12 years and have picked a few things up from a player who is leaving the hobby (something about a newborn baby....) the below is what I think that I will expand to as I have 2x Battleforce, 2x Wraith Boxes and 2x Barge Boxes all NIB.

Total Roster Cost: 1499

HQ: Overlord - 180 pts
Staff of Light, Sempiternal Weave, Resurrection Orb, Phase Shifter

: Royal Court - 60 pts
Harbinger of the Storm, Lightning Field
Harbinger of the Storm

HQ: Destroyer Lord - 160 pts
Warsythe, Sempiternal Weave, Mindshackle Scarabs

Troops: 9 Warriors - 232 pts
Ghost Ark

Troops: 9 Warriors - 232 pts
Ghost Ark

Troops: 20 Warriors - 260 pts

Fast Attack: 5 Canoptek Wraiths - 195 pts
Whip Coil x2

Heavy Support: Annihilation Barge - 90 pts

Heavy Support: Annihilation Barge - 90 pts

I'd drop the Staff of Light for a Warscythe myself, and drop the Phase Shifter. With a 2+ armour save, not much will go through it anyway, and Phase Shifters are very pricey.
Otherwise, it doesn't look bad at all. Anything with lots of Ap4 stuff will be a problem though. Other Necron armies with lots of Immortals, Space Wolves spamming Heavy Bolters, and ESPECIALLY Tau.

I went with the Staff because I plan on keeping him out of combat, I could drop the phase shifter for another wraith? I imagine I'll come across plenty of tau but not sure what I can drop to fit in some more 3+ saves without splurging cash on more immortals

If he's in range to use the Staff he'll likely be in combat soon anyway, and it's just so useful. Remember it gets 2D6 AP vs vehicles too. And if you want to keep him out of combat why have a Phase Shifter? I'd follow your own advice and grab another wraith.

A list with multiple ghost arks and big warrior blob always has big potential since the blob can then soak in damage that will return through RP and ark repair ; and the warriors inside have a fairly good protection, thanks to AV13.

I’ll second that motion to use the point of the phase shifter elsewhere, especially if the overlord goes with the large warrior group (look-out-sir) or in a ghost ark (AV13 than look-out-sir).

Just a though: if you specifically want that combination of gear on your overlord, you can get exactly that with nemesor Zanhdrekh for a mere 5 point more, and you gain much more in terms of tactical advantages… It becomes fairly easy to give a 4+ cover saves to a unit by using terrain and having Zanhdrekh give them stealth ; this might be a solution to those AP4 shots

Thats a nice idea for Zahndrekh as the Warlord, so how does this look?

Harbinger of the Storm

Troops: 9 Warriors - 232 pts

Fast Attack: 5 Canoptek Scarabs - 75 pts

Looks good.
Just curious, why Stormteks? If your trying to stay out of combat, why not take a Harbinger of Transmogrification?
You could tie up jump infantry and bikes with one and shoot terminators and landraiders with the other.

Haywire is such a nice punch.

And remember.... if you plan to keep something out of combat... you opponent will be sure to get in cc and kick your ass

Cheers for the feedback guys, I took the Storm-teks for the Haywire Staff as I do see a lot of Vehicles on the gaming tables in the local GW so the Haywire would be required I think. With the keeping out of combat comment I was speaking of the Overlord I was thinking that the Phase Shifter would be a good addition to stop the character being sniped (although I my have my WHFB head on) ok so have done a small reshuffle, Lightning Field Storm-tek joins the large warrior squad with Zandrekh and the unupgraded storm-teks joins the smaller mounted warriors

Total Roster Cost: 1494

HQ: Nemesor Zahndrekh - 185 pts

: Royal Court - 85 pts
Harbinger of the Storm

a use to consider is
having the scarabs infront of the warriors
precenting being charges and able to make a counter move.

Nice list overall

Great list
Last notes: I've read that you plan on joining Zanhdrekh to a "mounted" warrior unit with storm tek,( as in a ghost ark?) ; the GA has a capacity of 10, so 9 warriors + stormtek does not leave room for the Nemesor.
Anyway, since he has an orb, you want him in larger blob ( that 20 warrior unit) where the orb will be more efficient

Within 12" of the ghost ark in rapid fire range for the ark's and passenger' gauss flayers & voltaic staff... A vehicle could lose 5-6 hull points ; but it has to be within 12"

Thanks all.

For clarification the squads will line up like this

20 Warriors with Nemesor Zandrekh and Harbringer of the Storm w/Lightning
2x 9 Warriors with Harbringer of the Storm in Ghost Ark
Scarabs will provide swarming cover to the group as it advances and the Wraithes will intercept any major threats with the A-Barges protecting the flanks

good list and mainly a fun list
with fast chargers and teleporting chargers, you will be in your opponent's face quite rapidly, something not expected of necrons, which is always good
wraiths can help dealing with MCs and barges will be good all-around

You have 2 members of a Royal Court. You can only attach one member to a squad per court, and your Warriors have Arks. As it is you'll have one member by himself.

Last one is better, the previous list you had far too many points on a single wound model in the Lord in my opinion.

How you use the harbinger of despair becomes a serious choice as you have two unit that really benefit from it. Deathmarks for the hunter from hyperspace wound on 2+/AP1 combo and lychguards to get them rapidly to where they can be useful
Not sure about the CCB for Trazyn; for me, CCB=warscythe
Trazyn's empathic obliterator does not "obliterate" in the sweep attacks provided by the CCB as per FAQ.
Might be worth it if you want to charge things like fire warriors : the AV13 chariot would wave off small arm fire up to S6. We'll have to see in 7th if chariots, as vehicles, remain unlocked in CC, which impede chariot rider from locking shooty units in CC.
