So I've been a big fan of Fortifications for a while and one thing I liked in 7th was seeing that claimed buildings are now scoring. This, combined with the fact there's a Tactical Objective of destroying a building could yield some interesting results. For starters, I rarely saw Fortifications as being points effecient beyond a couple specific items. I love using the Imperial Bastion and Bunker and they provided enough resources for my armies to make things worthwhile. I also enjoy using my Vengeance Weapon Batteries; however, they didn't really make up their point as much as provide a distraction for my opponent. With the changes to buildings in 7th though, I'm looking forward to testing things out differently. - Neutral Buildings that are part of the scenery can be claimed and then become scoring for that side. - Purchased Fortifications/Buildings are placed in your deployment zone when you deploy the rest of your army (post terrain and objective placement). - A building has to be destroyed or claimed by the opposing faction to no longer be scoring for yourself. - Landing on battlements is a form of claiming a building (unless there's a unit inside) This may not seem like a big deal; however, if you are smart at placing objectives towards the table corners, you're bound to have 1 in your deployment zone. If this is the case, then you just need to slap a fortification within 3" of it and you no longer have to worry about your opponent getting it early in the game. In the case of a VWB - they have to be destroyed in order to be removed as they cannot be claimed by anyone other than who purchased them. Even destroying just the gun isn't enough. So on top of buildings now being scoring, there's also the fact that all fortifications have "Repel the Enemy" special rule that allow you to assault out of buildings and Jump Infantry and Jet Pack Infantry are able to be embarked inside. Buildings gained HPs but most of the ones in Stronghold Assault are AV14 with 4HPs....so nothing worrysome. Add in the Void Shield upgrade and it's going to take a dedicated close combat attack to take it out. And as for the top battlements, that's an automatic 4+ cover save to whomever is on top. So what is everyone's thoughts on fortifications in general? Anyone have any experiences with such besides myself? |

Not used any of the fortifications but the claimed neutral buildings have done me proud in all my 7th ed games so far. I watched a couple of guys loose themselves the game by picking the side with no buildings in for their deployment, and the other player getting the buildings and scoring objectives due to it. |

I wonder how this works with the ADL if it works with it? |

ADLs are defense lines and not buildings. |

How about the Necron Tomb Citadel? Would each component count as a "building"? |

I would have to review the rules on the Tomb Citadel. While it is a fortification, I do not believe it's classified as a building (impassible or normal). I'll have to double check that though. |
