Thoughts on the new Space Wolves and how we can deal with them?

Obviously with the Return of Jaws of the World Wolf we still lose HQs on turn 1, but we should be able to deal with other stuff.
At least Wolves HAVE to take a minimum of 2 HQs now, to balance out their 6 on the FOC.

Well, looks like the new version of Jaws is just a focused witchfire for non-MC models and no longer a beam/sinkhole that swallows up everything. It'll still suck for us; however, focused witchfires can still have LOS done to them. Also - it won't hurt vehicles so our CCBs are safe.

Also - the 6 HQs isn't a huge change since so many wolf players I know took 4 Rune Priests to spam Jaws previously.

As for everything else
- Destroyers always love to shoot at enemies in power armor.
- Tank hunter and Gauss will make short work of the Murderfang
- Deathrays and Particle Whips are always fun for the whole pack.

Something else to keep in mind - the Space Wolf Detachment does not grant Objective Secure (so far, just the CAD, allies, and sky blight grant such.) So yes they can take 6 HQs but, at least from a tournament perspective, Objective Secure is too important for winning. I ran the Ork detachment (also w/o Objective Secured) a few times and lost a couple games solely because I didn't have objective secured. Clearing objectives is a LOT harder than contesting them.

The 6HQs is in a standard FoC-it's not a detachment.

Do they need to stay in unit coherency or can they act like an RC and join different units? If they can't then they can only be in one place at a time.

So is my 3 HQs in my Ork Horde Detachment or the 4 Elites in the Great Waaagh! Detachment from the Ghazghkull Supplement. They are detachments, similar to the BRB's CAD, where it dictates structure but not the units to be used. Formation dictate both.

The space wolf codex comes with 1 formation and 1 actual detachment (just like the Ork book). So Wolf players can choose to run a CAD or their own, new Detachment if they don't want to do a formation as their primary detachment. Both the formation and the 6HQ detachment in the Space Wolf book does not contain the Objective Secured special rule.

The new SW Detachment has 6 HQ slots. So it's not like an RC (or Eldar Warlocks). If they wanted to run 6 SW Captains for some reason they could.

No, I mean, they don't have 6 HQs, it's more that each of their 2 HQ slots can have up to 3 HQs-just like the last codex.

Haven't seen that confirmed anywhere...actually this is the first I heard about it.

Just wait till it's out...tomorrow? Saturday? I'm about to go on holiday in 10 mins, so this is my last post for a week or so. (SO don't have time to look for it)
Anyway, confirmed Sagas are back-pretty much the same as last time, but better.
