I was playing around with a C'Tan list for an upcoming tourney and this is what I came up with: (Formation Detachment) Conclave of the Burning One [C'tan Shard of the Nightbringer] ····Cryptek [Solar Thermasite, Staff of Light, The God Shackle, The Nightmare Shroud] ····Cryptek [Phylactery, The Solar Staff] (Combined Arms Detachment) Orikan the Diviner C'tan Shard of the Deceiver Lychguard ····10x Lychguard [10x Hyperphase Sword & Dispersion Shield] Immortals ····5x Immortal [5x Gauss Blaster] Immortals ····5x Immortal [5x Gauss Blaster] Tomb Blades ····X 4 Tomb Blade [Nebuloscope, Particle Beamer, Shield Vanes] Tomb Blades ····X 4 Tomb Blade [Nebuloscope, Particle Beamer, Shield Vanes] What do you think-will I stand a chance against knights and elder and thundercav? I am not very mobile and I will have a limited ability to get claim objectives, but the tomb blades should help with that. I am I crazy to think this might even work. No one around here even plays the C'Tan because they are random, and somewhat easy to kill, but in CC they should clean up. When Orikan powers up-he should be able to bust some face as well. As always, thoughts and recommendations are appreciated. |

of course, if you want to mantain the flavor of it I understand that you wanna keep the shards. One question: Did you run deceiver and nightbringer together? (close to each other) to benefit from the dread-bonus? Another: You said your shards had been locked in CC all game long. Didnt you ever use the deceivers hit and run in order to escape from a CC and shoot? One suggestion might be: take the deceiver in the conclave formation, not the nightbringer. When the deceiver gets locked in CC he can escape via Hit & run (2/3 chance!) So, if you are locked in combat with a target you can jump out, shoot again with the 2 staff of light (important!), shoot with the powers of the ctan and charge again. This could be a viable tactic. (hit and run conferrs to the unit). hit and run lets you also move quite fast (3d6 to any direction), so its very viable to reach backfield-targets (like artillery, etc). So next time try it out this way: Deceiver within the conclave formation, nightbringer gets the +1 S +1 T bonus. Run the 2 close to each other. Jump out of CC at the end of the opponents assault phase. |

Trouble is, the majority Initiative of the Conclave is 2, making H&R a 1/3 chance.. |

Hit and run doesnt use majority initiative, but highest. Characteristic tests (like initiative test, strength test) always use the highest value in the unit! Here the section from BRB: "To make a characteristic test, use the following procedure: • Roll a D6 and compare the result to the relevant characteristic in the model’s profile. • If the result is equal to or less than the number in the profile, the test is passed. • If the result is greater than the number in the model’s profile, the test has been failed, and something unusual will occur, as detailed in the rule that prompted the test. • When a single test is required for the whole unit, use the highest relevant characteristic in the unit." emphasis mine. |

I did not use the Hit and Run....I will try the list as you outlined. It sounds like a very viable way to get the most utility out of this list. Thanks as always! |

As said: Thats why Id take the deceiver within the formation and the nightbringer apart. Use god shackles on nighbringer (makes him tough enough) and block shots for your deceiver with the tanking cryptek. Then - as said - use hit and run. It makes the formation very incalculable for the opponent. If using hit&run in the opponents assault phase you have a huge threat range to get to your next target. (3D6 + 6 + 2D6 inches, average of about 22'') This lets you easily get into the opponents back rows. Another thing you could do: Add the plasma gauntlet to one of the crypteks. This will give the opponent a VERY nasty surprise. You can then use hit&run getting out of combat, move 3D6 + 6'' inches towards an unexpecting opponent and apply that S7 AP2 flamer...apply cold water to the burn! Easily lets you whipe out a whole unit of 2+ or worse armorsave guys if you put the template the right way...and afterwards, you charge. I also want to mention this: Deciever has dread and I4, making him very good at sweeping opponents. So: If the opponent has a huge blop of not-fearless, not stubborn, not marine- units: Charge them, win the combat, force them to do a hugely modified morale check (- combat result - 2 (dread)) and sweep them. This gets even easier if you roll on the warlord trait table and get the crusader trait (+1D3 on sweeping advances). Also: never forget that deceiver has the fear specialrule. |
