Hello all! This is my first post, though I have been reading the forum for a while. Below is a 1850 pts army list I have been toying with for tournament play. I think it is pretty good and provides a good balance between anti-air, anti-armour and anti-infantry options. My one concern is how it would fare against an AdLance or multiple wraightknights. What do people think? Decurion Detachment Reclamation Legion Zahndrekh Warriors 10 Ghost Ark Warriors 20 Immortals 10 (Tesla) Tomb Blades 5 (scope + Shield Vanes + gauss Blaster) Flayed ones Flayed ones 20 Judicator Battalion Praetorians 5 (Rods) Nightscythe Praetorians 5 (VB + PC) Nightscythe Triarch Stalker |

I like it - Tons of synergy! it is actually very similar to the Decurion list I was working on. A couple of thoughts: -If you end up playing a lot of maelstrom, you may want to MSU your flayed ones into 4x5 to be able to infiltrate onto multiple objectives and get a jump on points. Even going 2x10 with them would help with that. -Watch out for melta in Drop pods killing off your lone Triarch Stalker - he's quite the lynchpin of your army, giving out the +1BS and rerolls to the Praetorians and Nightscythes. I feel like Deathmarks would be helpful here - could fit them in fairly easily by dropping 5 of the Tesla Immortals. |

Thanks! Those are very good points. What would you do with the 5 man immortal squad? My worry is that the 5 man squad starting on the board could end up giving first blood often. One way to deal with that would be to use one of the nightscythes as dedicated transport for them. You lose a bit on not being able to re-roll to wound/pen with the one nightscythe not being part of the judicator battalion, but you gain protection for the stalker with a unit of deathmarks intercepting crisis suits DS and/or melta drop pods. |

I agree with most things Grot stated; however, I don't feel like the Stalker is as much of a linchpin as our opponents tend to make it out to be. +1BS is huge as is the rerolling rules for the formation; however, it is also a great target/distraction away from the Ghost Ark. If a melta drop pod comes down and gets the stalker, the unit probably won't survive an assault from the praetorians or mass fire from elsewhere. Personally, I would make 2 changes to the list - 1. I'd split the Flayed Ones by default into 2x10 or 3x7 (if you can get another single one). More targets to shot at and more options to spread them around. 4+/4+ is not easy to kill by small arms fire and at 7 models per unit, they need to kill 2 before you have to make a morale test (at LD10 remember). - 2. I would drop the Shield Vanes from the Tomb Blades and use the points to take Scopes instead. Ignores cover is huge in the land of jinking and cover saves. Being able to take out skimmers, bikes, and FMCs by preventing their ability to jink has been more worth it than a 3+ save. T5 with a 4+/4+ is very surviveable and since you're taking Gauss, you're not taking a HUGE hit if you have to jink for some reason. Dropping to 5 immortals to add 5 Deathmarks isn't necessarily bad but it turns the immortals into an objective holder more than a marching unit. Also - 5 Deathmarks tend to wound things more than killing thing; however, in the case of taking out melta units in drop pods, you only need to snipe out the meltas so it's enough. |

I've posted this on a couple topics before, but I love my 5-man Tesla squad for securing backfield objectives (preferably one in cover). When placing objectives, I'll try to make sure there's one in each deployment zone about 12" away from the board edge so it doesn't matter which table edge I end up on. Often I will just reserve them and have them walk on to the battlefield as the rest of the core force moves forward. Tesla can produce more shots at range than gauss, so I usually run them as Tesla. I try to keep them about 18"-24" from the enemy and just take pot-shots at whatever is in range. A 5-man Immortal squad in cover with a 3+ save & 4+ Everliving can be tough to take out, so even if you do deploy them, I wouldn't worry TOO much about First Blood. Either way, I'd still try to keep the NightScythe as part of the Judicator Battalion, just for the bonuses to Hit/Wound/Pen. |

I did agree with everything but this. I honestly see no point at all at not taking shieldvanes. How would you let slip such a cheap upgrade that greatly improves the tomblades survivabiltiy?? Yes, 4+, 4++ coversave is nice. But 3+, 4++ coversave is just much nicer. If you just pass 1 single save because of shieldvanes, you already earned back the points you spend upgrading the whole unit with vanes. I know you can always jink..but its better to not jink as it still does reduce the tomblades killingpower (even with TL weapons). There are so many AP4 weapons out there (that would force you to jink), but there are so much less Ap3 weapons. I agree that nebuloscope is nice, thats why Id take both. Instead of dropping shieldvanes I would drop a single flayed one instead, problem solved! Honestly, for me tomblades start at 22 points, with vanes and scopes. |

Thank you everyone. I appreciate the ideas very much. My list already included nebuloscopes for the tomb blades and I agree that it is key to making the tomb blades work effectively. I have split up the flayed ones in two 10 man squads, partly because I don't have the extra model right now to do 3 x 7 and partly because I face a stupid amount of Tau and Eldar in my meta and the smaller squads scare me a little. I also included a unit of deathmarks and dropped the immortals to a 5 man squad (also had to drop a warrior to make it fit) and the list now stands at 1842 pts. I like Grotzilla's idea to sit the immortals on a back objective or to reserve them and walk them up to a nearby objective. I am playing a game tomorrow and will aim to write a battle report on how the list fared. Decurion Detachment Reclamation Legion Zahndrekh Warriors 10 Ghost Ark Warriors 19 Immortals 5 (Tesla) Tomb Blades 5 (Scope + Shield Vanes + Gauss Blasters) Flayed ones Flayed ones 10 Flayed ones 10 Deathmarks Flayed ones 5 Judicator Battalion Praetorians 5 (Rods) Nightscythe Praetorians 5 (VB + PC) Nightscythe Triarch Stalker |
