My group is doing some 600pt games, with the following restrictions: - No AV above 12 - No unit can cost more than 200pts, not inluding dedicated transports - No character or monstrous creature can cost more than 150pts - No fliers - No unbound - No Lords of War Anyway, I've thought of a few armies, and I'm looking for thoughts on them: Army 1: Destroyer Cult: - Destroyer Lord w/ Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Voidblade (In the first game he had Voidreaper, but then my friends conveniently added the 150pts max on characters rule. :( ) - 3 Destroyers w/ Heavy Destroyer - 3 Destroyers w/ Heavy Destroyer - 3 Destroyers w/ Heavy Destroyer - Heavy Destroyer - 590pts Army 2: CAD: - Destroyer Lord w/ Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Voidblade (goes with Deathmarks) - 10 Deathmarks - 5 Immortals - 5 Immortals - Heavy Destroyer - Heavy Destroyer - 600pts Army 3: CAD: - Overlord Lord w/ Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Warscythe (goes with Immortals) - 5 Deathmarks - 10 Immortals - 5 Immortals - Heavy Destroyer - Heavy Destroyer - 595pts So, does any one of these lists look stronger than the others? Thing is, I haven't had much experience of the new Necrons, let alone in such low-point games - so I don't even know if I'm on the right tract for a good list. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. |

None of these lists stands out as Stronger than any other, but list A looks to be the most fun. It's also the easiest to deal with depending on your meta. Anything that can out maneuver you, Deep Strike on you, or have more bodies than you can possibly kill are going to give you a hard time. At this points level, I'd REALLY look into running Troop heavy depending on what you have. The Vehicle restriction pretty much forces us to look that direction. If it were me, I'd look into Szeras with a Blob of Warriors. That unit will become tougher than nails with the 4+ RP, and possibility of T5. BS5 at this level is crazy, and S5 will make enemy assault units a little wary if you put shots into them. Tesla Immortals might be viable here as well depending on what you usually face. I don't recommend it, but I think you can still get a Decurion on 600 pts. You won't really be relying on any assault elements, but it's a good place to experience the board control you'd have with the +1 RP, Relentless, and Move through Cover. EDIT: 2 Crypteks with Chrono, or Lords with Orbs if you're in an Assault Heavy Meta supporting 2 units of Warriors or Immortals wouldn't be bad either. That would free up points for Wraiths, Scarabs, or Flayed Ones. Edited by Akar, May 5 2015, 05:40 PM.

That's a good point. One thing - do you think a Voidblade is sufficient for a destroyer lord? I thought it might be best to build him tanky, instead of going with a warscythe (which would require me to sacrifice his phase shifter), but I'm curious as to whether this seems like the right decision to you?
That's an interesting idea.
Hah, you're right. I might actually give that a go.
I was considering a scarab-farm list... then i remembered I only own one spyder. :$ |

I'm going to have to let someone else comment on the DLords. I've never found them worth investing any points into them, so my recommendations on where to use him are limited. His best use is who he gives PE too. In a DCult, you have to take him, and he doesn't really help beyond tanking. The Voidblade should be fine for this points level, but I honestly don't know. I'd probably just run him at the enemy solo or use him as bait if I were to run a cult. |

Fair enough. I didn't actually used to care for Destroyer Lords either. However, I recently made a conversion that I'm quite pleased with, which has made me want to use them. Spoiler: click to toggle Anyway, my plan was to either run him in a squad to tank some wounds (and/or protect it from melee threats), or else (as you suggest) run him solo. It'll probably depend on what firepower my opponent is bringing and what the terrain is like. Edited by Vipoid, May 5 2015, 09:12 PM.

Saw that on the other thread as well. I'm going to be rebuilding one as well for some Flayed Ones shenanigans, but gotta get my Praetorians and the Nightscythes done long before I get around to that. |

Possibly you could run a Canoptek Harvest? Fiddled about a bit in Battlescribe: CAD Cryptek, Veil of Darkness 5x Immortals 10x Warriors Canoptek Harvest 3x Scarabs 1x Spyder, TLPB 4x Wraith, Coils 597 Points, so optionally no TLPB on spider, and an extra warrior. I did like your initial Destroyer Cult, though - it had a bit of style, compared to the more cookie cutter builds. :) |

you could also go good old Orikan + lychguard deathstar. At this pointlevel, you usually play on small maps. Orikan joined by 5 S&B lychguard will be plain deadly...and still leaves you points for something else. It depends thought how the "not more than 200 points" is to understand. Orikan and the lychguard are 2 different units on deployment, so they would not be more than 200 points together. However, if your friends mean "no deathstar over 200 points" (Including IC) then it would rule out this combo, althought you could still join orikan to the lychguard after deployment. |

I would go either for this Destroyer Cult list of yours (I love Destroyers now) or just a regular Reclamation Legion/Decurion - this +1 RP roll bonus is so damn powerful it's really just crazy on infantry only list. minimum Reclamation Legion is 567 points (with 150 points Overlord/character and Ignore Cover Particle Blasters on Tomb Blades) so you can add some extra warrior/Immortal/Tomb Blade to it to make it full 600. For Overlord I wouldn't really take any special characters, just slap Warscythe, Phase Shifter and either Resurrection Orb (for even more insane toughness) or Tachyon Arrow (for a chance for first blood on enemy transporter). |

Reclamation Legion requires at least 1 Auxiliary to be taken. Cheapest option is 65 points for Flayed Ones, which means you can't spend any more than 535 points on your Reclamation Legion. In other words, you can't spend 150 points on eg. Zahndrekh, but will have to settle for a regular Overlord. WS, GoF, PS works out to 599. |

That actually looks like a really solid list. The thing is though, I don't really want to use Canoptek Harvest. It just always seems a bit cheesy to me. That being said, one player is using Centurions and another is using Eldar, so that view might well change in the future. ^o)
Thanks. It actually came about more or less by accident. I'd been working on my Destroyer Lord conversion, and was planning a 1500pt list with Decurion and Destroyer Cult. When my friends suggested this 600pt format, I noticed that the Destroyer Cult part of my Decurion list was almost exactly 600pts. :P
I believe that the 200pt limit doesn't include characters, so that would indeed be fine. I might give that a go.
That's a good point. I'd looked at a Decurion, but didn't think of just using the Reclamation Legion part. Thanks for all the responses, guys, you've given me a a lot of great ideas. :D |

The cult or this proposed minimal decurion would wreak faces, the cult with firepower and overal T5, the decurion with overall durability Flayed ones are the cheapest but in a way the meanest in such a low point game. With few enemy units, it should be easy to infiltrate them out of sight yet near for them to apply pressure early on |

That's a good point about Flayed Ones. I was originally thinking about a Decurion with Deathmarks as the sole auxiliary, but I think Flayed Ones would indeed be better. |

Well, I learned something. I didn't know an Aux was required to get the Decurion bonus. Back to the scrap pad. |
