Tomb blades customization; A cure for the common ugly

been thinking forever and a day about how ugly the tomb blades are and wish there was either a cheaper alternative or a easy kit bash that will fix them and i have came to a few ideas I'd like to share.

1st is use canoptek acanthrites as tomb blades instead, just a flat out model switch, they are close to the same size and dimensions and pretty cool looking to boot (because who REALLY uses forgeworld anyway right? -sarcasm-)

2nd was to go to non-gw places and grab some replacements like from puppet of war's cyber bike.

3rd is my idea I came up with.... remove the warrior and bring the guns higher up! I had been looking at the tomb blades trying to FORCE myself to like them so I thought about it "what do I NOT like about this htat turns me off to them?" the answer was the placement of the warrior and that the guns where dragging on the ground! Turn the bike into a more auto-mated fighter by moving the control panel + guns to around where the warrior inside sits and slap on a spyder head instead of a space chair and BOOM I like it!

I'll be grabbing a box tomorrow and posting pictures of my results I just wanted to post what i've been thinking about before i forgot it.

Here is a paint mock-up of it, I dub it the Canoptek Scorpion/Wasp

looks very cool, I like it.
Could we get a picture from the side? (and the back)??
I think many persons are very interested in getting cool tomblades.

Side post posted as requested. unsure how I would go about getting a good back view the 360 model on the gw sight doesn't have a dead on view.

with a little green stuff you can "sculpt" a spyder face out of the front part of the tomb blade.

I just happen to like spyders and had extra bits from the three i had.

Here is a WIP of the real deal of the Tomb Scopids

Thinking about adding wires from where the necron warrior's hands go and connect them to the head.

very very cool looking tomblades, I just god the whole scorpion idea :D
I'm just wondering if the regular guns arent to big to attack them to the scorpion tail? Maybe shorten them somehow or melt them directly into the tail?

Here is a picture with guns. They fit fine with no problem the particle beamer fits too if you remove the hanging underwire.

That worked out rather nicely. Maybe once you're done with the whole thing, painted up and all, you should submit pictures to GW, I'm sure that's an interesting enough conversion to catch some eyes.

Looks really good though, I had a bit of reservations about the idea, but you definitely made it work.
Oh, speaking of where the hands of the necron normally riding go, from the looks of it there is a square peg in that spot, that's the area you're speaking of right? You can see it best on the far right one.

Maybe right in that location you should add on two little pincer-looking things, like little talons the normal spyder has or wraiths or some such. That might be a cool idea, and help with making it look more independent and "creature" like.

Didn't think of that thanks! (yes I was king about the peg part) Now to dig through my bit box for those extra parts the spyder I haven't used.

(man I feel like a native american using a buffalo EVERY part gets used!)

Yeah, now you just have to figure out how to use the durpy-looking necron riders that would normally go on there to complete the circle of life! I look forward to the next update.

I don't dislike the normal TBs that much, I think I'll probably end up making mine just as normal; As cool as this idea is, I feel like copying it would be like stealing from you, it's a super unique aspect to add to your personal army lol :wraith:

Extra Warriors, Flayed Ones, or Objective Markers.

Many uses possible, just like the Warriors in the Ark.

taking into account that we are talking about oberron, the spare warriors might well go into the living ghost ark ;)

Hey steal the idea if you want in part or the whole deal. I did this because I wanted to give people more options for a better looking tomb blade.

For the Riders I think I can turn them into flayed ones.

I've never seen the kit up close, do they have fully formed faces? Because I know they go up against that orb thing-y on the bike, so perhaps not.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind, if I had a more "construct" themed idea for the army, but personally I don't much mind the look of the original models, so I am more than willing to start with those unless a fancy strikes me to theme the army somehow. For now I'm just struggling with getting a paint scheme anyways, so I don't need cool conversions to get ahead of myself lol.

The face is close to the deathmark face but instead of the orb there have a circle with a hole that connects to the bike to view from. Nothing a googlie eye or two can't fix.

If you haven't already used them, you could make 'genestealer' flayed ones with some greenstuff or modeling clay and the spare arms you get in the Lychguard box. Tack some stuff on, glue arms in, pose menacingly, drape greenstuff for skin and flesh, and voila! Flayed ones. (Note this is a little bit of a self promotion b/c I have created a thread on the topic in this same subforum, but whatever.)
