10 Warriors - Ghost Arc
10 Warriors - Ghost Arc
5 Immortals - Night Scythe

3 Tomb Blades - Nebuloscope, Shield Vanes, Particle Beamer

Destroyer Cult - 660p

3 Destroyers - 1 upgraded to Heavy
3 Destroyers
3 Heavy Destroyers

Canoptek Harvest - 239p
3 Wraiths - Whipcoils
3 Scarab Bases
1 Spyder

Total - 1847p

This is my first try at a list, recently got into 40k after only playing fantasy for a while.
What I'm worried about is that I've gone a bit overboard on the transports, but atleast it's a mobile army, perhaps I don't need 2 ghost arks, or even the night scythe, and rather put in more warriors/immortals. I want to try out a destroyer cult as I really like destroyers, and I've been told that the harvest is a good formation as well, so I'd think it's a good alternative to take up the rest of the points. I'm terrible at theorizing how the army would do on the table and I've got very little 40k experience to draw from when I try to imagine eventual counters.

Any comments from more experienced necron players would be greatly appreciated, the 40k community where I play is really competetive, so I'm looking at facing cheesy lists of all kinds. I'm not terribly hung up on winning every game, but I'd like to atleast put up a fight.

If you are against very competitive environment, drop all vehicles. They will be targeted and killed very quickly by all anti-vehicle weapons and don't really add much to your army. Go full infantry - our infantry is currently crazy tough and 130 points of warriors can take much more punishment then 1 Ghost Ark.

I was playing very similar army:
- drop all vehicles (2 Ghost Arks and Nightscythe)
- get 6 Wraiths
- get more (in order of power/priority): Tomb Blades (Particle Blaster), Destroyers, Warriors
- play with MSU, don't make too big units - 10 Warriors in 2 team is better then 20 Warriors - as tough, but can shoot 2 different targets and occupy two different objective points at the same time.

Give your DLord a Phase Shifter and join him with Wraiths unit to give them Preferred Enemy - I know he's slower, but with his jetpack move he can keep up with Wraiths. Keep Spyder hidden out of LoS and run every round to keep it in distance with Wraiths and Scarabs.

I personally love Zahndrekh for Warlord, but simple overlord can be useful too.

Thanks for the reply.

Wouldn't my warroirs be kind of left behind if I remove the transports? or is this not a big issue? Because that was basically my main thought when making the army, speed :P

But I guess the warriors are solid enough to walk a distance, and it's fun with more robots :)

So removing the transports leave me with 340 points.

That would get me 3 more wraiths with whip coils, 1 more warrior unit and one more unit with 3 tomb blades, with particle beamers and ignore cover and 3+ save upgrades.

Is that an improvement?

Also if I remove the res orb from the overlord to give the Dlord phase shifter, is that a bad idea? He has rerolls on 1's anyway so i guess the res orb isn't really that important. also with the last points I can give the last tomb blade unit particle beamers as well.

Looks good.
Regarding the strategy - I assume you play Maelstrom missions - make sure that objective points are located more towards middle and don't try to hide too many in corners. This helps your warriors - they can secure an objective point and shoot with 24'' range. I usually get opponent's far/corner objective points with scarabs and tomb blades. Sometimes I also leave a unit of immortals few inches from my corner/far objective point just to guard it.

I usually reserve one of the Destroyer teams (the one without heavy destroyer?) and DS them behind some far/vulnerable target.
Warriors move in a line creating cover for my Destroyers behind them. At some point I just stop (when I have about 2/3 of the table under my control) and just shoot, with Destroyers jumping in front and then behind my line of warriors.
Don't be too hasty with your Wraiths, if they are without support in middle of enemy line, they will die. They are also very threatening unit, so people will generally move away from them trying to avoid their charge range - which gives you great tool for board control. Keep DLord to the front, of Wraiths, so he can always keep up with the rest, use his jet pack move to move him forward after everything else moves and you don't have anything to charge.

In Maelstrom missions, in general, if you control 2/3 of table/Objectives, you win.

Alright, so more warriors and less transports basically :P I'll try that out, got about a third of the units a need so I guess I have to go shopping :)
