So I FINALLY have my 3rd box of Praetorians on the way to make my 2 units, and I got the 32mm Bases to put them on. I also managed to get someone to hire me even with my Broken Arm, so I have a small income again. I'm looking at ordering the conversion bits for my Praetorians, and I've narrowed it down to these two.

I like the size and style of the Puppetswar wings, and I feel they'll be easier to attach to the models, but won't know until I order them. Also, they're resin, so will make the Plastic models easier to balance.

The Privateer Press ones are good as well, but I'm concerned about both how they're going to be attached to the Praetorian Models, as there doesn't appear to be much metal to even pin if I wanted to. The Metal is also a small issue with the Plastic models and being too top heavy, but they don't appear to be that heavy that they'll fall off the bases, or can't position them so they won't tip over.

Either way, I plan on getting some of these for my Destroyer Lords when I get around to it. They can go either way thematically, but obviously designed to go with the PP ones, just showing where I plan on going with it.

I've looked at other mechanical wings as well. I really like the ones that Malifaux uses for Kaeliss, but I can't bitz those out to my knowlege, and I've seen them so might be a bit small. I don't like the ones from Microart Studios, so they're out. If there is any that I've missed, please let me know so I can see them.

Well, between the two? I like the second ones more. Although I don't get a terribly Necron-y feel to many of these, but here is a handful more I found.

Random Wings, not very suitable, but just encase you like them.

This is a thread started by a user on DakkaDakka where he compiled many 3rd party Necron related items, might be worthwhile.

This is the only Reaper miniature with "robot" style wings, but they don't really bring anything to the table you haven't presented.

But yeah, the Privateer Press wings you linked look like they belong on a Swooping Hawk Exarch, or at least that's the style they remind me of. I guess I can't really say what I would imagine "Necron Wings" to look like off hand, but at the very least Sleek is a feature I would personally want most. Almost everything Necron-y is void of any like.. machine tools (Pistons or levers or cogs or such), but it's fairly hard to think what wings might look like. Especially for a team known for their anti-grav abilities. Maybe those little nodes that stick off of the Wraiths and a few other units, that just look like protruding rods? I think the Flying unit from Forgeworld uses those as "wings". If you really wanted to, you could use some clear acrylic shaped to the "Form" of the wing, like they have a energy wing popping out of them. Kind of like Deathscythe I guess: http://www.angelfire.com/fang/endlessturmoil/MobileSuits/deathscythe-et1.jpg

I was wondering: Couldnt you do some mecanical wings by yourself, but necron style?
I'm thinking about cutting triangles out of a transparent, greenish plastic and assembling them in wing-form, giving them a metalic framing. Here a picture of what I'm thinking about (I made that drawing in like 1 minute in paint so please excuse the bad quality).I think its enough to get the idea!

I realized that When I posted this I left out some notes. I have a friend who built a Harlequin Army, and if any of you know, they give you 5-6 mask options per model. So I picked up about 15 masks that look as feminine as possible. I have to do a little filing, but the size is just right and will look good.

The idea is that these were the daughters of my Necron Phaerons who became Praetorians. They were then tasked with escorting other nobles to the furnaces, so the image was to be escorted by angels, well you get the idea.

So the wings are there as decoration, and not functional. As well as to address the complaints that Praetorians just don't look like jump infantry. I actually got the idea from watching 'Jupiter Ascending', when he gets his bio mechanical wings.

The Puppestwar ones would have the Pack part cut out before being applied to the model Which only leaves the gear portion on the wing joints. Being resin, I don't believe it'll be too hard to shave these down if it bothered me.

I agree with Tree, the PP ones do look more like they'd belong on Swooping Hawks. I'm only considering them because I think they do have the elegance that I might expect to see on the models to match the fluff. The 3rd wing, with all the moving parts is too big for a Praetorian model, but would go on a Destroyer Lord if I ran one with the Praetorians. Just to keep some sort of Aesthetic.

Ideally, I'd like to hunt down a pair of Yeld Spyrer wings from the old Necromunda, and just cast copies in Greenstuff. For the price of finding one, I can just buy a set of either of the above, and won't have to do any production work.

Hope that gives a better idea of the direction I'm going.

That does, and honestly, after looking at the wings for Yeld Spyrer (Thanks google), I have to say, with the whole direction/style you're going for (Especially if Yeld is the pinnacle of what you think looks good), plasticard and a knife might be a good solution for you.

Unless you're uneasy about cutting plasticard, or you don't like the time put into measuring/cutting the shapes. But I feel like those Yeld Spyrer wings would be super easy to emulate with even one sheet of thin-ish plasticard. It'll probably be more time/effort than finding one to just buy, but it would certainly get you to where you want to be, I feel.

And yea, the story to go with the idea definitely helps in seeing what you're looking for, ha.

It's not necessarily the 'pinnacle' of what I'm looking for, but rather just sticking with all GW as possible. The Yeld wings are pretty thick so I'd have to be a plasticard master to get it right I feel. Either way, thank you for your input, I'll take a step back and consider it.
