Hey guys, I recently got my tail handed to me by a tau player and I am look for units that I might add to my list. My list consisted of:
HQ
Overlord: warscythe
Cryptek
Troops
2x5 immortals with gauss
1x15 warriors
Elites
10x Flayed Ones
5x Triarch Praets
Triarch Stalker
Heavy Support
Anni Barge
Doomsday Ark

His list was roughly
Longstrike
Fireblade
2x5 strike teams
1x10 strike team
1x3 crisis suits with fusion blasters
2x5 pathfinders
3x1 broadsides with missiles missiles and more missiles

The battle went roughly like this: we get hammer and anvil for deployment. He gets first turn because we are using the tourny rules where instead of choosing to go first if you deploy first you get +1 to the die roll. He pretty much deletes one/two units each turn with the broadsides before i can really shoot back, kills 7/10 of the flayed ones in overwatch with the broadsides(which werent the charge target). I give at the end of turn 4 with my cryptek at 4 wounds and the stalked and dda at full health. Takeaways, tau gunline seems pretty strong still. Our vehicles seem much more sturdy than their stats indicate, quatum shielding was boss. Flayed ones slaughter light infantry when they get there. I need something faster, was thinking a flyer maybe?

I think your main mistake was that you didn't kill the Pathfinders first. Certainly in 6th and 7th Ed the Tau relied on Pathfinders to make their shooting dangerous - if you concentrate all your fire on slaughtering the Pathfinders, the Tau won't get any of the boosts to their shooting they usually get, like Markerlights, and their missiles won't be hitting you on crazy scores like 3+ or 2+. Pathfinders don't have much armour so you'll be able to kill them pretty easily. Perhaps use a Monolith next time to give your forces plenty of shooting weapons. Also Flayed Ones aren't that well armoured - I would recommend using Lychguard with sword and shield instead as Dispersion shields give them an invulnerable save to laugh off any wounds that have a high AP value. At least they did before 8th Ed - I don't know if 8th Ed has botched that as well.

You could look at the deceiver to move your flayed one's up the board or obyron.
Almost maybe a couple of heavy destroyers for long range

The reason I did not go for the pathfinders is they aren't that scary anymore, they got needed hard it's at 5 markerlights they get +1bs. Yeah I think I do need to find a deciever model he's the one that relocated himself and d3 units right?

In addition to some of the suggestions here, I'd mention Scarabs.

Scarabs are fast, cheap, and a great combo with the Deceiver, because they prevent him from being shot when deployed between him and enemy shooting, regardless of unit size.

I've seen the Deceiver mentioned, and he's a great fit for your list. He can Grand Illusion himself and 1-3 Scarab Swarms, to get in close with enemy and distract from your advancing force.

Use this alongside the Flayed Ones dropping into strike range, charge and stop the Broadsides from hammering you as you march up and engage the parts of the enemy you need to take them apart. The Praets and Stalker have enough speed to catch up while your slower elements move into position.

Good Luck!
