2000 points crushed by IG

Played a 2000 point game against my friends IG list as a test for an escalation league going forward and got crushed. Felt like my list wasn't set up right to deal with what he brought, I felt like I played the scenario ok for the most part.

Battalion:

Crytpek
Overlord with voidblade

10 Gauss Immortals
10 Tesla Immortals
20 Warriors

Deceiver

4 Scarabs
4 Scarabs

Spearhead:

CCB with Gauss and warscythe

3 heavy destroyers
3 heavy destroyers
Tesseract Ark with Gauss

His list had 11 vehicles in it, I managed to blow up 2 and almost kill 3 more (1 HP left on all 3) but he just had far too much firepower for me. He simply focused down each of my blobs to make sure I didn't get reanimation rolls and I just didn't have the staying power to hold onto objectives. I was happy with the heavy destroyers but found the Ark was a bit too hit and miss, random shots plus random damage really made it far too variable and I am not sure if it is worth taking anymore.

Would love to hear some thoughts and feedback on the list. I feel like most of it looks good on paper but in the field it struggles a bit. Maybe this is just a symptom of IG being so strong right now and Necrons being a bit more hit and miss?

I like that list. For me though I've had better luck with stalkers instead of heavy destroyers.

Only played one IG list so far, they had like 10 vehicles too. Hard to handle with necrons right now. Sorry to sound like a broken record, but our anti tank options are limited and point heavy. Sucks to hear the ark didn't perform. Was curious about that and the super heavy pylon.

What was the turn by turn break down? Who went first? How did the deceiver work out?

I used Tesseract Arc in my game against CSM. It easily lived through the battle and managed to blow up couple of vehicles. I just rerolled that unlucky D6 hits rolls...

He went first, Deceiver rolled low so I teleported it and the 20 warriors onto a flank. He spent his entire first turn trying to mow them down but they managed to survive and 13 stood back up.

Turn 1 I blew away one chimera and dropped another one down to half health.

Turn 2 he blew away one immortal unit and a few more warriors, I killed another chimera and got another down to 1HP

Turn 3 he blew away the warriors and one heavy destroyer squad and my CCB, he also finished off my deceiver before he could do any more damage. I got his flyer down to 1HP and wiped out some small guardsmen squads

Turn 4 is when he basically tabled me, wiped out my last immortals squad, killed my cryptek and overlord and killed 2 more heavy destroyers. All I had left were 8 scarabs, the Ark and 1 heavy destroyer so we called it there.

In defence of the Ark I rolled really poorly (a 2 reroll into a 3, a 2 reroll into a 2 and a 1 with no reroll), he flamered on the last turn. I think part of the issue was my opponent never bothered to shoot at it so the quantum shielding wasn't needed. He knew he only had to blow away my troops to win.

Well i guess if rolls go bad - you can't do anything about. My CSM friend tried to kill the Ark because it blew away Helbrute turn 1 and Predator turn 2 on its own. And having Stalker helps too.

I can understand that you struggled with Guard they are very strong. Probably the top faction.

What was the priority targets for you in his list?
You seem to have shot a lot at his Chimeras the first couple of turns.

Will you keep using the Heavy Destroyers in your list?

I think it is impossible for me to not take heavy destroyers, they honestly seem like our best anti tank platform right now (mostly due to resilience and accuracy on the initial shot).

I knew I couldn't touch his artillery due to distance so I opted to just play the objective game and so I aimed to sit on objectives scoring points. This meant I wanted to take out his objective grabbing units (the stuff in chimeras). Once he dropped in his scions I also needed to thin them out before they took out my destroyers and characters. I also had to focus down some of his forge world bomb units (they killed 3 of my characters).

If I had my time again I would pop or shred down the tauros things first, then probably go for the chimeras and his guardsmen so I can secure the forward objectives with warriors and immortals. Problem with the chimeras is they remain at 100% effectiveness shooting wise until they die, heavy flamers don't degrade with the tank which is a pain.
