Greetings Overlords, Since a very short time I bought some Necrons and would like to use them for a first match, next Friday the 22th. This battle would be vs Imperial Guard or Space Wolves. At this time I don't have much and just bought the units which I liked or thought they look cool... I was wondering if the below list could work, as I've read up on alot of posts and battle reports. What's still a bit unclear is wether to go for squads of 10, 12 or 20 warriors. What I have : Overlord/Lord, Cryptek, 24 Warriors, 5 Immortals or 5 Deathmarks, 6 scarab bases a Stalker, 3 wraiths and a Tomb Sentinel. I made this list, with the idea of the scarabs grabbing backline objectives. The Wraiths and the Sentinel go to the front to harass whatever is possible. While the big blob moves up the field.... All advise more then welcome! ++ Patrol Detachment (Necrons) [53 PL, 998pts] ++ + HQ + Cryptek [6 PL, 104pts]: Staff of Light Lord [5 PL, 84pts]: Warscythe + Elites + (FW) Canoptek Tomb Stalker [8 PL, 170pts]: Gloom Prism Triarch Stalker [8 PL, 171pts]: Heat Ray + Fast Attack + Canoptek Scarabs [4 PL, 78pts]: 6x Canoptek Scarab Swarm Canoptek Wraiths [6 PL, 114pts]: 3x Canoptek Wraith + Troops + Immortals [4 PL, 85pts]: Gauss Blaster, 5x Immortal Necron Warriors [12 PL, 192pts]: 16x Necron Warrior ++ Total: [53 PL, 998pts] ++ |

So, Battle Report : Lost Turn 1, cause he rolled a 6 to kidnap it. I deployed wrongly (First match with Necrons, 4th match since many years) by spreading across the table. While he made a cluster blob with tanks and troops in a corner of the map, surrounded by buildings for cover. He also had way more units then me. -> Lesson : I'm still a n00b and I suck :P On Turn 1, he almost shot a complete warrior team of 10 to utter ****, so I coulnd't use Ressurection Protocols. -> Lesson : take bigger squads - even with a Cryptek nearby On Turn 1 and even Turn 2, I didn't advance which left me way out of reach to hit anything, with his gunline killing everything off on his terms. -> Lesson : advance and more WAAAGH or something ( wait that's another faction, derp) Somewhere in Turn 2 or even Turn 3, my Deathmarks countered his assassin, but he survived on 1 wound... -> Lesson : love the surprise and the unit, just roll better next time and hope he fails saves Highlight for me: 1) Triarch Stalker with twin gauss almost 1 shotted a tank 2) Tomb Stalker, hits heavy ! works as a giant distraction and deals alot of pain. - I was very Lucky with the gloom prism to counter his smites - but the centipede didn't last long after he fell back and shot with everything on it... Downside for me: Lots of tanks and 2 tanky things that didn't need line of sight... Couldn't deepstrike or teleport in between them cause he was clustered together there.... Next battle will be for 2000 Pts but only in a month or so due to very bad shift hours. :( Have a good holiday everyone ! |

It's good you managed to get a few good lessons out of your game. It's absolutely true that you should max out any unit of warriors and immortals in this edition to get a chance to roll reanimation protocols. Did you play with tactical objectives? It makes the game more about adaptability than blunt military might. He probably wouldn't deploy in a corner with a tactical objectives game. Look around the forum for other clues. It's VERY quiet at the moment, feels like everyone's waiting for our codex and playing other armies, but there are some good advices around. Have a good holiday! |
