So, Ive wanted to do this ever since I *got* my monolith. Which is... 6 years ago? 7? 8? A long, long time ago, anyway. Before the 5th edition codex came out, even. And while I did cut out the openings, and never assembled it completely... I never really got round to it. Tutorials were available on how to do it, sure, but it was always pretty complicated, required specialist part, and just a touch of skill in terms of electronics.

So, now I did it. And it required just about enough skill to attach two wires together and add a switch. No need for single LEDs, no need for circuit boards, batteries, voltages, etc. This is as plug and play as it gets.

What youll need:
- A monlith
- An adhesive-backed LED strip. About 30cm should be enough, though more doesnt hurt. In this case, a USB-powered one with integrated control panel - basically a switch to control the colours. Make sure to get one that can do green, white light isnt really great for this application.
- A battery bank. You can use a different power source ofc, but since my LED strtip had a USB cable... it basically saved me a whole lot of trouble with figuring out how to wire everything. Also, it has the advantage of being easily rechargable. Just attach the charging cable, done.
- A switch. The control thing will be inaccessible inside the monolith, so add a switch between the power supply and LED strip and there you go.
- optional, depending on the LEDs you got: Some extra wire and solder. I had to extend one of the wires a bit so it would reach the switch. You might not. You could probably get away without soldering it, too. So, optional.

Cut out all the bits you want to light up (sawing off the base of the crystal holder can be a good way to get that fixed), assemble the top of the monolith as normal. Leave the support pillar away, itll just get in the way. Add sprue to hold everything in place, coil up the LED strip at the top of the monolith and put everything in place. Build a cage for the battery in the base, add a hole for the switch and glue with superglue. Attach the wires and close everything up. Superglue is recommended to atach the top to the base.
Paint and add the clear plastic pieces. Tada! :monolith:

Nice! Does it also stand out under normal ambiant light? Does it make you want to field it once in a while, even though the new rules don't exactly favor it?

It actually does, yeah. :)

Its not quite as stark in daylight, but most indoor areas should be fine. The darker the better, obviously. :P

And yeah, it definitely does. Kind of tempted to try and do the Deceiver slingshot... Could be fun to slam a ten-man lichguard squad into the enemy front lines turn one. :P

(even better if I can manage the back lines, but hey... <.<)

Looks awsome

Can it be done in already build monoliths?

Well... Not easily. You might be able to do something similar if you can find a battery small enough to fit through the base holes, but its probably easier to take off the base and go from there. Especially trying to get the wires attached could prove difficult otherwise. Its not impossible, ofc, but it would be kind of like building a ship in a bottle. Long tweezers an absolut necessity. :P

... for the record, its first game since being lit up was a dismal failure, killed in one turn. And didnt even get to shoot at full capacity due to a stratagem... -__-

Still. Looked cool for the two minutes it was on the table.
