Vanishing Act
by Evan D'Asero (me)

Have you ever walked
Onto a crowded city street
To join in the symphony
Of an army of marching feet
And a thousand faces go by
Without a worry or care
In fact, it's almost as if
They don't even know you're there

Have you ever sat
Slumped over at your desk
With burning pain in your heart
Like embers in your chest
Because the people around you
So content with their own lives
Fail to see your torment
And your most hurtful strife?

This world can be
So cruel and empty at times
Sometimes, it would seem
You could vanish from its eyes

You can walk onto a battlefield
As gunfire ignites the dark sky
And hidden soldiers sneak away
To end someone else's life
But no matter where you are
With bullets flying all around
Not one will seek you out
To bury you in the ground

You can walk into the sea
And sink in the ocean blue
But even the fish
Won't care to notice you
You'll be a mirage to their eyes
An illusion of the sun
And you'll start to ask yourself:
Is there anyone?

Is there anyone who cares
About the lonely girl in the park
There's innocence in her eyes
But a hole inside her heart
Is there anyone who cares
About the dishonored son
Who, in place of a degree
Holds a bottle and a gun?

It's hard to rise
When you only know to fall
In fact, at times
We want to end it all
It's hard to live
Without a place to call home
For the coldest road of all
Is the one I walk alone

@Quentyn: If we ever see each other at meetings, a "nice job" will be more than sufficient :)
