Minas Tirith is the seat of the Throne of Gondor, the ancient kingdom of Men. The city was carved right out of the mountain that surrounds it, and there is a wedge-shaped section of mountain that splits the city into two halves.

Osgiliath is on the River Anduin. It was once the capital of Gondor, but since the rise of Sauron it has been left to ruin.

The Path of the 'Dead' is located near Dunharrow, near the border of Gondor and Rohan. Inside are the living spirits of soilders who have yet to repay their debt to the king of Middle Earth.

A labyrinth of caverns under Isengard that held Saruman's furnaces and forges that manufacture weapons and arms.

The tower is located at the center of Isengard. At the top of the tower is a Palantir, an ancient seeing stone. Saruman used it to communicate with Sauron.

Caras Galadhon is a beautiful city of trees. It is the home of Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel and where the Mirror of Galadriel is found.

Found in Caras Galadon, the Mirror of Galadriel is the property of Galadriel, the bearer of Nenya, Ring of Adamant, one of the three Elven Rings. The mirror has the power to see into the future of the one who looks into it.

Barad-dûr is the towering home of Sauron. It is located behind the Black Gate and just north of the volcano, Mt. Doom.

The Black Gate is an immense metal gate located on the northwest side of Mordor. It opens out onto the plain of Dagorlad.

Cirith Ungol Tower guards the Pass of Cirith Ungol. It was built after the Batle of Dagorlad as a Gondorian watchtower, but fell to Sauron as his power returned. The pass is located above Minas Morgul. It is far more accessible than Black Gate and Minas Morgul as an entrance to Mordor. In recent years, the garrison there has not been as vigilant because Shelob lurks near the pass, making the way dangerous for those trying to get into Mordor and those trying to get out.

Minas Morgul was once known as Minas Ithil, when it was still a part of the kingdom of Gondor. It had been the sister city to Minas Tirith. Now it is the home of the Nazgûl.

Mt. Doom is located in Mordor. It is where Sauron forged the One Ring. At the end of the Second Age, an Alliance of Elves and Men besieged Mordor on the Gorgoroth Plains. Sauron was defeated when Isildur cut the Ring from his hand. Isildur was then led to the of Doom in Mt. Doom by Elrond, but Isildur refused to cast the Ring into the fire and instead kept it as a family heirloom. Mt. Doom is the only place where the Ring could be destroyed.

Shelob's Lair is located in the High Pass of Cirith Ungol above Minas Morgul. The Tower of Cirith Ungol was built there to guard the pass, but since the arrival of Shelob, she has made the pass dangerous for those both trying to enter and leave Mordor.

Dwarrowdelf is the ancient Dwarven city of Moria. Dwarrowdelf is characterized by its huge columns. Inside lurks the Balrog, is an ancient servant of Morgoth that fell into evil when Morgoth opposed the Creator. It is an even older evil than Sauron, who was another servant of Morgoth in the earliest days of Middle Earth. It went to dwell under the mountains long before Sauron rose to power for the first time.

In Rivendell in the House of Elrond, a shrine can be found. This shrine commemorates the defeat of Sauron at the end of the Second Age. The shrine includes paintings and the shards of Narsil. Narsil was the sword of the Kings of Gondor. After Sauron struck down King Elendil, his son Isildur took up the sword and tried to raise it against Sauron. However, Sauron broke the sword, but with the shard of Narsil, Isildur cut the Ring from Sauron's hand.

Edoras is the mountaintop capital of Rohan. The Golden Hall of the King is located at the highest point of the city. In recent years, King Théoden has begun failing and Edoras has done likewise. It has become bleak and cold.

Helm's Deep is an ancient mountain stronghold located in Rohan. It had never before fallen until the battle between Saruman's Uruk-hai, and the people of Edoras with a force of elves led by Haldir.

The Green Dragon is a popular pub in the Shire. Spontaneous routines of song and dance are the norm, and the ale barrels never go dry.

Hobbiton is located in The Shire. It is populated by easy-going Hobbits.

Bree is located just outside of The Shire. It is a mixed community of Men and Hobbits.

The Grey Havens are located to the northwest of The Shire. The time of the Elves in Middle Earth is ending and they are going to the Grey Havens. From there they sail into the West across the sea for the Undying Lands.

Weathertop is the site of the remnants of the ancient watchtower, Amon Sûl. It is a major landmark in between Bree and Rivendell.

Dagorlad was a great plain located outside of the Black Gate of Mordor. It was where a great battle was fought during the War of the Last Alliance of Men and Elves. Forces led by High Elven-King Gil-galad and Elendil, King of Gondor defeated Sauron's forces. Following the battle, the siege of Mordor began. It was finally ended when Isildur cut the One Ring from Sauron's finger with the hilt shard of Narsil. At the end of the Third Age, little of the plain of Dagorlad remains. It is being swallowed up by the Marshes, a miserable place haunted by the spirits of those who fell in battle there.
