| What is New Hyperion? New Hyperion (NH) is a region of NationStates. It is an empire built on the principles of Hyperionism, our guiding philosophy. Great! How do I sign up? Hold on there, buddy, you haven't even registered yet! You'll have to scroll up (or just click here) and take care of that first. After that, take a look at those four forums at the top of the list. The Low Orbit Welcome Wagon is where you can apply for Plebeianship and introduce yourself. You can undergo Patricianship if you're interested in leadership. For everything else, go to Imperial Service. What if I'm a diplomat? Go to the Immigration Desk instead, and we'll get you masked. What's the government situation look like? Our region has three main levels of command: the Imperial Council, the Inquisition, and the Hyperion Senate. The Imperial Council (IC) consists of the Autarch, Chancellor, Lord Inquisitor, High Lords, and military command. It assembles when sensitive or secret decisions need to be made. Its members otherwise act separately as department heads and administrators. The Inquisition is the law enforcement of the region. Inquisitors ensure that all members are complying with any requirements currently set in place, and, along with the Lord of Development, also controls admission into the Patrician caste. The Judiciary, our courts system, also exists as part of the Inquisition. The Hyperion Senate consists of all our Patricians, and is the primary body of law and policy. The Senate operates somewhere between a democracy and a mob, and doesn't necessarily need hard votes to get things done. While the IC is technically superior to the Senate, it is more common for the Councillors to participate as Senators. As such, the Hyperion Senate tends to be the most important part of the entire government. Is that it? Of course not, that would be dry and boring. Granted, the Hyperion Senate is about as boring as a discussion on abortion, but you probably don't want to deal with its squabbles and silliness 24/7. That's why we have the Imperial Service and the military. The Imperial Service consists of the various departments, such as Foreign Affairs and Recruitment. All departments are volunteer-only, though enlistment and training in the Hyperian Guard is highly recommended for all members. In general, however, you will be encouraged to join under-staffed departments. Oh yeah, didn't your recruitment telegram mention an RP? Why yes it did! While we allow other RPs, of course, our main RP is the one that sets the standard of our theme and culture. It's kind of complex and involved, but once you get the ball rolling it's about as smooth sailing as any other RP. What if I need help? Pop us a question. Our patience is legendary. You may also check the Great Library of Trantor for answers to some of the more common questions. |

As I'm sure a number of us play video games I thought it would be nice to share our gamer tags in order to consolidate our community and allow us to possibly use this to hold competitions for the region.

I'm an avid gamer, but the internet here is just too expensive to be a part of any online gaming community. |

At the moment I'm playing Fallout New Vegas. Had it two years and never played. For online I play GTA V, Warthunder and Civ V. Have Killzone 2, 3 and Shadowfall and all the COD's up to last year. Fifa 12 is the latest football game I own. As for favourites that would be (PS1)Driver, South Park Rally, Colin McRae Rally, (PS2)GTA 3 and SA, Starwars Battlefront 2, The Getaway, (Computer)Return to castle Wolfenstein, (PS3)COD WAW Zombies and Fallout 3. Buzz is also a very good party game. |

I started out my budding gaming career on the Sega Genesis. Sonic 3, Phantasy Star IV and Shining Force were some notable early favourites. PS2: Killzone, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Destroy All Humans, GTA SA and SSX: On Tour are some of my favourites. I shouldn't forget MGS 3, as it is also an honourable mention. PS3: There's really only one game that makes me keep my PS3, and that's Red Dead Redemption. Man, I love that game so much. Everything else from the PS3/X360 era is simply better on PC. ![]() My favourite games, regardless of any platform (but mostly PC), are Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 1 and 2 (3 is just terrible), Portal 1 and 2, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Far Cry 3, Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption and Assassin's Creed II and IV. I'm not too fond of sports games in general. |

Get a few drinks into you and sports games become great competitions! The only advantage I see for PC is the modding community. I see console controllers as much better than a keyboard and mouse and a consoles primary use if for gaming(although microsoft seem to be ruining that). Granted you can get gaming computers but you have to take care of them. You dont have to do that for a PS or Nintendo console, Xbox is another story. In the end its personal preference but the only advantage I see for PC is quite a big one. |

Modding is a pretty huge advantage though, yeah, especially if you like games like New Vegas, the communities being huge and developed. And obviously you can use a controller with a PC, but the keyboard and mouse (when you get used to it) is easily superior in terms of both accuracy in shooting games and the amount of hotkeys/shortcuts you can have on hand at once. Then there's things like console commands. In terms of maintenance, you don't actually need to do anything for a few years. My power supply didn't go until about the three year mark, and if you think about the amount of Xbox 360's which managed to last that long... there aren't too many. Every individual part also has its own warranty, so replacing it was absolutely free (and would have been for another two years). In terms of upgrading, if you need better processing power, graphics, etc, you can just replace singular components. If you ask me, the only legitimate argument in favour of consoles is that they're cheaper. Also, on tags, I hate Steam and don't use it. The only time I did was when I pre-ordered New Vegas CE (hey, it had a cool hardback graphic novel), and was forced to use Steam, but I moved on to cracking the game so I didn't have to be on Steam to use it. Apparently it's becoming increasingly common for people who bought games to crack the file afterwards just to avoid such online features anyway. |

The 360 was an awful excuse for a console. 3 friends of mine had 3 each and one is on his 4th, the other two have ps3's. My ps1 has lasted almost 15 years without fault. That right there though is what I see as a problem with computers. I don't expect to upgrade or expect to replace parts bar the hard drive(500GB is simply not big enough if I own more than 12 games) just to get small improvements. |

The only reason the parts need replacing so much sooner is because they're so much more powerful than console parts and burn out quicker. If you theoretically put hardware weak enough to be on par with typical console grade components, it would have a similar lifespan. But nobody wants to do this, as one of the most attractive things about PC gaming is the vastly superior power (especially graphical). |

I used to be an avid console gamer, but yes, the modding communities (especially for Bethesda games, I can make Morrowind look a lot better than Oblivion), the extra graphical power, smoother framerates... pretty much everything really, are just better. I had a modest budget when I built my PC, but it still has about the same theoretical specs (give or take) to a PS4, and I paid quite a bit less by looking for bargains with each individual part. The only regret I have about leaving Sony behind are their exclusive games (Heavy Rain was quite amazing, as was God of War), but when I play a game like Skyrim, Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout or Far Cry 3 with modded textures and other cool mods, my regrets lessen somewhat. I do hate having to keep my software, drivers etc. up to date, but you get used to it fairly quickly. |
