The Hyperion Order
Imperial Council

| What is New Hyperion? New Hyperion (NH) is a region of NationStates. It is an empire built on the principles of Hyperionism, our guiding philosophy. Great! How do I sign up? Hold on there, buddy, you haven't even registered yet! You'll have to scroll up (or just click here) and take care of that first. After that, take a look at those four forums at the top of the list. The Low Orbit Welcome Wagon is where you can apply for Plebeianship and introduce yourself. You can undergo Patricianship if you're interested in leadership. For everything else, go to Imperial Service. What if I'm a diplomat? Go to the Immigration Desk instead, and we'll get you masked. What's the government situation look like? Our region has three main levels of command: the Imperial Council, the Inquisition, and the Hyperion Senate. The Imperial Council (IC) consists of the Autarch, Chancellor, Lord Inquisitor, High Lords, and military command. It assembles when sensitive or secret decisions need to be made. Its members otherwise act separately as department heads and administrators. The Inquisition is the law enforcement of the region. Inquisitors ensure that all members are complying with any requirements currently set in place, and, along with the Lord of Development, also controls admission into the Patrician caste. The Judiciary, our courts system, also exists as part of the Inquisition. The Hyperion Senate consists of all our Patricians, and is the primary body of law and policy. The Senate operates somewhere between a democracy and a mob, and doesn't necessarily need hard votes to get things done. While the IC is technically superior to the Senate, it is more common for the Councillors to participate as Senators. As such, the Hyperion Senate tends to be the most important part of the entire government. Is that it? Of course not, that would be dry and boring. Granted, the Hyperion Senate is about as boring as a discussion on abortion, but you probably don't want to deal with its squabbles and silliness 24/7. That's why we have the Imperial Service and the military. The Imperial Service consists of the various departments, such as Foreign Affairs and Recruitment. All departments are volunteer-only, though enlistment and training in the Hyperian Guard is highly recommended for all members. In general, however, you will be encouraged to join under-staffed departments. Oh yeah, didn't your recruitment telegram mention an RP? Why yes it did! While we allow other RPs, of course, our main RP is the one that sets the standard of our theme and culture. It's kind of complex and involved, but once you get the ball rolling it's about as smooth sailing as any other RP. What if I need help? Pop us a question. Our patience is legendary. You may also check the Great Library of Trantor for answers to some of the more common questions. |

Autarch of New Hyperion

A short story I've been thinking of lately. A new dawn rises on the plains of Valkyria. Over a millennia of warfare brought the realm to its knees. Waring cities battled for control over the rich resources which dotted the lands. Alliances were formed and broken frequently as each city tried to gain the upper hand in a seemingly endless stalemate. However, things changed dramatically as the cities of Valtamrei, a coastal fortress city and the heart of imports from foreign lands, Valenheart, an inland militaristic city responsible for creating the most advanced weapons used by the cities of the realm and Laputa, a scientific, cultural and mystical haven in the skies, formed a pact. Together, forging the only unbroken alliance known as the Valkyrie pact, the cities combined forces set out across the realm as one. Over the course of two decades the Valkyrie pact had fought and defeated all other cities in the realm, razing the more aggressive cities while sparing the more historically important and strategic cities. Upon the completion of their mission the Valkyrie pact decided to build the city of Valkyria, named in honour of the realm, which would become the first designated capitol city of the newly formed kingdom. Three hundred years have passed since the founding of Valkyria and the realm has so far avoided major internal conflict. With representatives from each of the three main cities meeting in the capitol on a regular basis some minor conflict over the direction of the kingdom has emerged. However, compromise on issues has allowed the kingdom to prosper and flourish and with the coronation of the new king on the horizon the golden age of Valkyria looks set to start. |

The premise seems interesting enough, if handled right. If handled poorly, it could become a case of same-old, same-old. Or were you looking for input on style, grammar and so forth? EDIT: Also, why aren't you RPing?

Do my eyes deceive me. Is Zander.... the Zander I've come to know.... RPing!?! The world truly must be coming to an end! I feel like this would end up becoming like another old RP that we've come to know oh so well. I feel like there needs to be a bit more flare for it to amount to a full blown story. |

Less of an RP, more of a story I wish to work on for the future. It will mainly revolve around the history of the 3 cities and how the realm came into being along with details of what is dotted across the lands. |

Valkyria is one letter away from Valyria, the ancient homeland of the Targaryens in ASOIAF/GoT. A prosperous "golden age" would also tend to be a bad place to set a story. If this was read as a blurb, it isn't as intriguing as if some overarching event or potential calamity was about to happen. |

The name Valkyria comes from a video game a friend owns. Any relation or similarity to GoT is coincidental. The story of the foundation of kingdom ends with the golden age, the vast majority is consisting of the history of each of the three cities leading up to the Valkyrie pact and subsequent victory, with bits about the rest of the realm completing it. The post coronation story is something for the future. |

You don't mean Valkyria Chronicles....if you do, I kinda like that game, although I have not played it yet, I like how the game looks and how the game itself works. Anyways, good story. |

I have actually heard of the Valkyria Chronicles before oddly enough. Guess I just forgot. Personally I'd still always advise creating your own world and narrative entirely, and making homages subtle. How would you approach the perspective issue when writing a short story spanning centuries without creating a disconnected or impersonal feel? |

Yes thats the one, however the name is the only thing I've used because I like the name Valkyria. Laputa is from an anime film(name escapes me) while Valenheart and Valtamrei along with how the world works and its setting are my own creation. In regards to story length what I'm thinking is creating something bigger than intended and scaling back to the most interesting and relevant points. What I want to get out of it is something that is both interesting to me and to other people because when I get the opportunity I want to create it as a region and I'd like to have something that the region can be founded on and use immediately rather than create the region and come up with the ideas as I go along, which is what I've done most of the time. |
