Can I play a Lasombra/Catiff/Salubri/Harbenger/etc?

A full list of available clans is provided on the forums. Player characters may not be created from outside of those Clans, no exceptions. Other clans may appear in game as Non-Player Characters (NPCs) controlled by the Venue's Storytellers.

Can I play an elder character?

No. Your character should be up to 5 years embraced, and this should be reflected by their score in the "Lore" background which is available in character creation. It is possible that your character was a ghoul before embrace, however. See the "Former Ghoul" Merit in the Merits and Flaws list.

Can I play an anarch/sabbat?

For the moment, we are running a Camarilla focussed chronicle. These sects may be included as NPC factions. I would note that, in that case, the chance may arise to join those Sects through play. However, you should not focus yourself on this and rather concentrate on what your character would do and his beliefs towards those sects. Someone who is sympathetic towards the Sabbat or Anarchs may be difficult to play in a Camarilla stronghold.

How do I get scenes?

This is generally done by posting on the Main Page when you are available, accessing any of the many open scenes which are linked on the Main Page, or by liaising with other players/STs by Private Message and arranging a scene. If your character is required for a specific scene, the Storytellers or Players involved should contact you to arrange suitable times.

How is the best way to stay involved in plot?

First and foremost, use the Storytellers. They create the plots and can find ways for you to be involved in them if you wish. Furthermore, if you highlight a particular area of your character's backstory, this can be developed into plot by a Storyteller. For example, your character has a long lost lover who is trying to track her down. A Storyteller will offer you scenarios based on this outcome but it helps if you actively communicate your interest to the Storyteller in this regard.

When proposing ideas for personal plot, don't say things like, "I want to kill the Sabbat Archbishop of Montreal". I'm sure many of us would like to do that, but it probably doesn't make sense for your character and it is an end, not a plot. Propose scenarios, and possibilities and give reasons for your interest. It is helpful if these are tied in to your backstory.

Stay politically and socially active with the other Players and with the NPCs. It is possible to play a character who is socially detached, solitary and avoids danger and risk, but such a character will likely not get involved in the ongoing plots. Make sure that you create a character which not only suits your play style and that appeals to you, but that you believe will be fun for you to play.

Why is the game only original boring 7 clans ?

We feel that this offers a more focussed selection and gives a better reflection of the majority of kindred that will be found in a Camarilla city on the East Coast of America. As a non-negotiable part of our character creation, if you feel this is unacceptable to you, then simply do not play. We do, however, want to encourage the hobby of Roleplay and would encourage you to seek out or even set up another venue which has character creation which is more to your liking.

What is a retcon ?

"RETroactive CONtinuity", it refers to an alteration to in-scene events. For example, if a rule has not been correctly followed or in a case where we believe metagaming has taken place, we will simply announce that the action taken or knowledge shared in that scene is "Retconned".

Following an Admin decision to retcon, the new outcome will be explained on the main page and, if necessary, in private to the people involved.

It should be noted that 99% of retcon actions are due to accidental errors and are not considered a punishment or black mark against any player unless the Admin team feel that the error was deliberate or malicious.

Why is character creation so structured ? Why can't we get in a hangout and make character?

The structured approach allows us to ensure that characters are created according to the standard we have set for our game. We also believe that creating a character backstory before considering the statistical element leads to a more well rounded, realistic character who isn't stacked to perform actions using one or two specific dice pools.

If an Admin is available, it may be possible to discuss your character with them in a hangout. However, it is best to conduct the process via this forum and facebook as this involves the least amount of schedule matching and organising.

Are the admins looking for more ST/ Admins ?

If new Admins or Storytellers are required, the Admin Team will approach the people we wish to fill those roles. Normally, such individuals are drawn from within the player base.

Those wishing to become an Admin or ST should consider that these roles are only awarded to individuals who the Admin Team trust and who have shown that they have the best interests of the community at heart. It should also be noted that the Administration of this game is no simple task and can be very taxing on your personal time. Those simply wishing to become an ST in order to get access to more powerful characters or to gain some kind of personal prestige need not apply.

Don't call us, we'll call you. And only if you are a trusted player.

Why are backgrounds so restricted and why can't I easily gain influence?

Backgrounds are cheap and easy to buy with XP or freebies. However, they are often ephemeral in terms of how they work and nothing is done in gameplay to keep or gain them. For that reason we prefer to see Backgrounds gained through roleplay and the role they play to the character clearly defined. If someone has a large amount of resources and retainers, he must be doing something to maintain that and it should be visible in play.

Influence can be gained, but it takes time to build up. The young kindred will not have a great deal of influence compared to Elders and Ancillae who have been in position for decades or even centuries. Also, bear in mind that if you ghoul someone to get influence, the influence on their area of business would actually be theirs, not yours.

I'm new, what clan do you think is best for beginners. What clans are the hardest. Why?

Almost any Clan could be considered easy with the right concept. Probably the "easiest" Clans to play are those with the lowest social structure which allow you the biggest freedom personally. For that reason, Clan Tremere are a particularly difficult choice for beginners.

Clan Tremere's embraces are meticulously chosen, their inter clan relationships are incredibly complicated by permanent blood bonds and their discipline is rigorous and unforgiving. Stepping even slightly out of line in Clan Tremere often brings a death sentence. This can make your play somewhat restricted in terms of working to your own initiative to any great degree.

Clan Malkavian are also a tough choice for some new players. There is the tendency to play what is called a "Fish Malk" character. Someone whose mental illness is merely kooky and comedic. A sort of slapstick pastiche instead of a real, dark, troubling, debilitating mental disorder. Be mindful if choosing Clan Malkavian that your portrayal of their derangement will be one of the key parts of the concept.

What kind of characters are you looking for?

We prefer characters who come across as humans who were embraced rather than Vampires from Birth. Since the characters are going to be young in Vampire terms, they may still be struggling to adapt to kindred life in some ways. Your character can take almost any form you want in terms of its concept, but it should come off as a person who could genuinely exist in the real world.

We also look for characters who are defined by their past, personality and preferences. Not someone who comes across as a series of mechanics and whose personality revolves around being a Vampire with cool powers.

Why can't I know about werewolves/mages/wraiths/ in my background.

Most kindred do not know of these things. It is simply the best representation of the knowledge of a recently embraced fledgling/neonate.

--Why is lore so limited.

Even someone who has been highly schooled will have holes in their knowledge. We have found that many players, even those who are highly experienced, play better when there is that sense of mystery from their character and they are, in game, discovering these things for the first time. Of course, perhaps a former ghoul, trained in a Tremere Chantry, may have maximum score in Lore. But that doesn't mean they have read V20 from cover to cover and know all of the information therein.

The second reason is quite simple, the game's metaplot and rules are subject to change by the STs. The creatures and other supernaturals you might encounter may not follow set rules that you are familiar with, or even be part of the established metaplot at all. You may encounter supernatural beings who have not been described in the books at all as they are purely new creations of the STs.

--My character was deleted from the forum what happened ?

All characters that are Idle (no scenes) for three (3) months are considered to be retired from active play and are considered NPC post retirement. This is calculated Downtime to Downtime, so 3 Downtimes where no scenes are recorded will lead to character retirement.

-- I joined the New Player page before, but was removed. Am I now banned from the venue ?

No you are not banned from participation, but if a period of two (2) months occurs without an initial character submission you will be removed from the New Player page as the group was created to expedite players entering the game in a timely fashion.

--I submitted a character sheet to the forum and now it is gone. What happened ?

All players are responsible for progress through the character creation system along with the admins, the process can drag on at times but is set up with the restrictions that are entailed with running a venue where participants are located all over the world in differing time zones. A player has one (1) month between posts during this process if this time elapses the character sheet will be deleted and the player must submit a new Step 1 backstory. The admin staff tries to be understanding about events and is open to transparency from players about realistic setbacks during character creation. The player should play a proactive role if REAL LIFE issues are delaying you they need to contact the staff (via PM on FB) to request extra time. The Admins are more then happy to work with you, and appreciate your courtesy should something interrupt your experience in VTMYTE (Vampire the Masquerade You Tube Experiment).
