Chapter 3: In the morning I wake up and my feet are stiff. I can barely believe that the party happened, it was so amazing. It lasted until two in the morning before everyone left. I put on a simple white dress and head into the fields. I just want to run and feel the grass on my feet. I leave the house without anyone seeing me and head into the grass. When I was little it came over my head. Now, it still comes past my waist. As I run through the grass I end up someplace I’ve never been before. I stop when I see a wall of mist in the middle of the field. Through it I can see the blurry outline of tall building and hear voices. I’m not sure if it’s my imagination, but I think I can hear Clary and Jon. “Jon?” I ask, “Clary?” I step into the mist even though that’s probably a bad idea. I'm flying and then I hit something white and cold. Snow. Well now I've seen it, although perhaps this wasn't the situation I was hoping for. Where am I? There are people and lights and tall, tall buildings everywhere. And something else that I remember from history books as being called kers or kars maybe. I get up from the ground before someone steps on me, remembering that I'm wearing a short dress and no shoes. I never knew anyplace could be this cold. I walk through the streets, in awe of everything around and I start to feel the cold less and less. There are people everyone rushing from place to place, but no one notices me. I feel warm now and curious about this new place. I don't remember how I got here, something about flying? No, that can't be right. As I fall into something soft and white I see a flash of red. Clary, I want to ask, but my mouth won't open. Everything is fuzzy and spinning. Then it goes black. I open my eyes to see red hair above me "Clary?" I ask again louder this time. "Clary? Jon? Where am I?" I look around everything is bright here. My body feels like it's burning and it hurts to breathe. I sit up. "Where am I?" I ask. I look around see a boy about my age with red hair standing above me. "You're not Clary," I declare stupidly. Obviously he's not Clary, to start he's male. "A no... I'm not. I'm-" he starts to reply, before another man pushes him away. "How do you feel? What hurts?" he asks me. Before proceeding to argue back and forth with the boy. I can't hear well, but I catch something about cats. "Where am I!" I yell at him. I'm trapped in a room with two males I don't know and I feel like if burning and freezing at the same time. I have absolutely no idea where I am and I can't move or stand. Not that I am going to tell them this, because for all I know they're going to kill me. "Can you move your hands?" the older man asks. "Yes." I can move my arms but I'm not sure I can do more than that, but I'm not going to tell him that. "Can you stand?" "Yes." I put my feet on the ground and attempt to stand before collapsing to the floor. "Where is Clary? Take me to Clary!" I yell at him. "Clary Herondale? How would you know her?" "Never mind how I know her! Just take me to her!" "She's at the Institute," he tells me. The boy who has been silent until then speaks up. "The Institute? I need to get there too." The man draws a portal and hands me something to drink, "Here take this," he tells me. I have no intention of drinking it. He help me up and then has me lean on the boy who looks embarrassed. The moment the man lets go a fall down, not held up by the boy who isn't supporting me at all. "You have to hold her better than that," the man tells him. The boy puts his arms around me while turning bright red and we stumble into the portal. "What are we doing here? I thought we were going to the Insitute!" the boy yells. "Hold your horses, ginger." The man heads over to an elevator which Clary and Jace step out of. "Oh Clary, Jace. What good timing. There is a girl who needs help and a boy who says he needs to be here." "Clary!" I scream and attempt to stumble towards her. I make it about a foot though before I collapse to the floor. If Jace is here too I wonder where all the kids are. Clary looks at me with confusion. "Who are you?" she asks. "I'm Val! I'm your sister!" But she just looks even more confused. The man turns to Clary, “I’d better be going.” “But what about them?” she asks looking at the boy and I. “Figure it out.” Clary turns to the boy. “Who are you?” she asks him. “Foster.” “Well Foster, why don’t you go with Jace and figure things out.” Foster and Jace leave, leaving me alone with Clary. “Who are you?” she asks me again. “Valentina Charlotte Morgenstern, your sister. Where are we? Is Jon here?” “I don’t know what you’re talking about. We’re in the New York Institute. And who is Jon?” “Our brother. Jonathan Christopher Morgenstern.” “I don’t know who you are.” “But I know who you are! You’re Clarissa Seraphina Herondale, my sister! You married Jace and have seven kids! You live in Idris with me and our family!” “That’s not my name,” she says ignoring the rest. “Then what is?” “Clarissa Adele Herondale,” she says, clearly disturbed, before walking away. I’m left standing here with no idea where I am and even more confused than I was before. |
