((Post 1/4)) -- Garyou awoke with a gargantuan yawn, his arms outstreched above him as his stiff bones cracked back to life. He loved that feeling as it usually meant he had gotten up to some kind of trouble the day before, and that trouble almost always meant a fight. Rising to a sitting position, he quickly scanned the room. He shared a room in the compound with several other boys, most of them about the same age if not younger. The majority of them still slept, with one or two futons rolled up and stacked in the open closet, denoting that some had gotten an early start much like he intended to. Quickly and quietly rolling up his bed, Garyou tossed it into the closet before quickly changing into his normal attire. With a quick clipping of his shoulder holsters, he slid open the door and stepped into the courtyard. The Tastukerai family compound was large, but by no means lavish or luxurious. It had been built into a recess carved into the mountain backing the village some twelve or so years ago by the clan itself. Despite the largeness, however, privacy was often incoveniently scarce which was a great hindrance to the older members of the clan, particularly the young adults. Despite this though, the compound was home and it certainly wasn't a bad living and the view was spectacular. Stepping off the wood panelling of the walkway and onto the courtyard grass, Garyou made his way over to a nearby railing and looked down upon the village that he now officially served as a shinobi. It all seemed to small from up in this perch, like it was some miniature that a child would play with. It could all be his day if he really wanted it and tried hard to make it so...but Garyou had no real intention to seek the position of Hokage, at least, not at this point in time. He wanted to be the strongest, sure, but he didn't want to have to deal with all the beuracracy that came with the position. It seemed boring, frankly, and it would leave less time for him to go around beating up the bad guys. Taking a deep breath as a morning breeze passed over him, Garyou turned and made his way down a nearby set of stairs. His father was busy today, or so he told Garyou, meaning that the training that the boy was set to undertake today would be handled by none other than his uncle, Katsuo. Coming to the landing at the bottom of the stairs, Garyou was about to knock on the wall next to Katsuo's door when something hit him in the back of the head, bringing with it a small, but distinct pain “The hell?” Garyou hissed as he placed a hand instinctually at the source of the pain, whipping his body around to see his beast of an uncle tossing a stone up and down in the air “If ya' even think about knocking on that door and wakin' yer aunt Manami up, this next one's going straight up yer ass...” |

((Post 2/4)) --- Garyou narrowed his eyes as he looked at his uncle who now had the cheekiest of grins on his face after his words of warning. The smirk was almost out of place on a man of Katsuo's bear-like stature “Yeah? And what if that rock had missed you old coot?” Garyou retorted, throwing up a smug grin of his own as he folded his arms “Yer talkin' like ya've never even met yer uncle before, Garyou! Ya know I never miss!” Katsuo replied, dropping the remaining stone back onto the ground. His uncle spoke the truth, Garyou had never met anyone with better accuracy than Tatsukerai Katsuo. Placing his hands on his hips, Garyou nodded slowly “You have a point, uncle...but I'd rather not waist the day having you show me how well you can throw a kunai, I have training I need to get done...” the young man said as his uncle drew closer “I didn't forget ya runt, but this training is going to be a lot different than what yer used to” Katsuo placed one of his large hads on Garyou's shoulder, engulfing it almost completely “Today, I'm gonna' help ya get one step closer to being able to use the sacred blaze like the rest of us.” Garyou's expression changed almost immediatley to one of unbridled excitement “What!? Are you serious!? That's freaking aweso-” another bear-like mitt slapped itself across the young man's mouth “The hell did I just tell ya about being quiet, ya dumbass!?” Katsuo growled, the look in his eyes absolutely terrifying Garyou, though the boy knew his uncle well enough to know that the threat was empty. When the boy's mouth was returned to him and the excitement died down, Garyou and Katsuo made their way up and out of the compound. It was quite a walk down the mountain to the village, but the Tatsukerai, along with all the others that lived on the mountain, knew of many short cuts to make the journey far less tedious and, before they knew it, Garyou and Katsuo had reached the village streets. Few people were fully awake at this hour, though it was clear that as the minutes ticked by, more and more people rose out of their beds to the light of the sun leisurely peeking over the horizon. It was actually quite marvelous to the boy, the sight of the sun rising over a sleeping village, the remnants of cold night air still biting at his skin. However, Garyou was soon left with but memories of the feeling as upon their arrival at the training field, he had more important things to focus on. |

((Post 3/4)) --- Garyou sat on the grassy surface of the training field, waiting for his uncle to finish preparing whatever it was that he was going to show the young Tatsukerai. Garyou had very little knowledge of what exactly they were doing today aside from the fact that it had something to do with the sacred blaze his family held so close to their hearts. Despite his ignorance in this circumstance, he was nevertheless very excited to see what was coming next. With a keen eye, the young man watched his bear-like uncle rummage in his large tool pouch for something specific. It was no surprise that the man lost track of things in there, this tool pouch was about twice as large as any Garyou had seen before, a necessity for his projectile-based shinobi uncle. A few more moments passed by before an almost relieved 'aha!' rang forth from Katsuo's mouth. The large man spun on his heel with surprising grace and held before his young nephew's eyes... “Paper? What the hell am I supposed to do with this?” Garyou cried, raising a rather perturbed eyebrow whilst meeting the eyes of his elder “You gonna' teach me some paper cutting technique or something, old man?” What must have been a split-second later, a fist found its way firmly driven into the top Garyou's head “Ya wise-ass! This ain't yer ordinary paper, this stuff is special!” Katsuo barked, removing his hand from his nephew's skull “This will show both me and you whether or not ya got the elemental affinity necessary for masterin', heck, even utilizin' the sacred blaze” the old man gently handed the boy the slip of paper “In order for us Tatsukerai to learn Enton techniques, ya see we refer to it as Enton for those outside of the clan, we must all start with a basic affinity for the fire element. In other words, if that paper does anythin' but burn up in your hands when you pour some chakra into it, yer screwed and we may as well just go home” Garyou looked at the slip of paper he now held deftly between his fingers. If it did anything but burn up, he couldn't learn how to use the sacred blaze, or whatever it was Katsuo called it. A sudden panic fell over the boy; learning his family secret techniques was, to him, the only way he could ever hope to be the strongest. Being locked out from those techniques was like the end of the world to him. Still, he had to find out for sure what the case was. With a deep breath, Garyou focused his chakra into his fingers, his eyes intensely locked on the slip of paper between them. At first, nothing seemed to happen, the wind catching the paper and blowing it gently to and fro causing Garyou to cast a glance at his uncle that seemed to ask 'does this mean anything?' when a sudden, intense heat came into spontaneous existance and engulfed the paper, the ashes scattering in the wind as they broke apart. A wave of relief washed over the young man, a relaxed smile appearing on his face “Had me worried for a second...” he said with a laugh, looking back up to his uncle. Katsuo let out a hearty laugh and pat the boy on the back “To tell ya the truth, nine outta' ten of us in the clan are born with an affinity for fire, Garyou, that's why our Enton techniques are our trademark, so to speak” he let out another chorus of laughter “Besides, many shinobi learn to control more than one element, it's just a whole lot easier to use the one yer born with. Now, let's get started...” he said as he stepped back a few paces and folded his arms. Garyou rose to his feet, a little peeved that his uncle had played the boy's emotions so well, but nevertheless, he was happy. He would soon be that much closer to the power he sought. Katsuo brought his hands together in a beast of a clap, catching the boy's attention once more “Right! With that out of the way, the real hard part begins!” he said, folding his arms and stroking his long beard with his right hand “It's up to ya, Garyou, to now produce a flame with your chakra, like this...” Katsuo flicked his wrist and held his hand outward for his nephew to see. Within his right palm was a smouldering flame, not unlike a small campfire, the sight of which wowed the young Tatsukerai. The way his uncle produced it with what seemed like no effort at all was simply astounding; it was exactly what Garyou himself strove to do. “Just like that, kiddo” Katuso said, folding his arms once more “If yer truly a skilled ninja worth training, you'll be able to do something that simple with ease.” Garyou took a deep breath and looked his uncle dead in the eyes “You watch, old man, I'll get this in the first shot, teach you a thing or two about ninjas worth training” Garyou taunted, cracking his knuckles as he bent his knees. Sticking his right arm out in front of him, his palm to the sky, Garyou took yet another deep breath and began to focus his chakra to his palm. When he felt it course through his body towards it's intended target, he focused next on making it combust. His face absolutely came to life when, to his fortune, it did just that. The small, campfire like flame appeared in his hand, blazing radiantly. Garyou looked back at his uncle and smirked “What did I tell you, old man!? You can't keep a good dragon down!” At this point, Garyou decided to push himself to the next level. If one hand was that easy, producing a flame in both simultaneously couldn't be much harder. Sticking out his other arm this time, Garyou attempted to focus his chakra evenly between the two without letting the first flame extinguish. Within a matter of seconds, his left and right hands were burning bright. Katsuo raised an eyebrow and gave off an impressed smile as his student and nephew continued to show just how competant, perhaps even talented, he was in the ninja way. However, Katsuo quickly found both eyebrows raised, this time in surprise and shock, as the flames in the boys hands roared higher into the sky. Garyou let out a distressed cry as the flames in his hands grew large, his prideful boasting apparently causing him to lose focus and thus, control over the amount of chakra going into the flames “How do I stop it!? HOW DO I STOP IT!?” he exclaimed, prancing up and down in his spot as the fires raged in his palms. Katsuo stood in shock briefly before letting out a hearty laugh “Just focus and close yer damn hands, boy! It's yer chakra, it won't hurt ya!” he cried, almost in tears from the enjoyment he was finding in this situation. Maybe the kid still had a ways to go after all. After the incident had been rectified, Katuso and Garyou had made their way back into the heart of the village. They had decided to take a seat at one of the many food stalls, today's food of choice being barbecue, and were now awaiting for their meals to arrive. “Ya did good today, Garyou” Katsuo said, ruffling his nephew's hair “You'll make fine ninja that even yer hard ass of a father can respect one day.” Garyou produced a sigh as he rested his elbows on the counter “Yeah, well, I'd be surprised if that man even sent a 'good job, you didn't embarass me' my way nowadays. He just doesn't understand what I do and why I do it and I guess that bothers him...oh well” Garyou concluded, taking a bite of his piping hot, freshly arrived food. Katsuo let out a light chuckle “Ah ya kids these days, thinking us old coots don't know what yer going through....ah, well, itadakimasu!” he cried, giving a curt bow. Garyou merely kept eating without the superstitious tribute, merely content to have food in his belly and a new ability under his belt. That was all he needed right now. |
