Here is a little thread for explaining a few of the possible technology questions some of you may have. This first post is for explaining the Plasma weapons. The reason I do not explain any ballistic weapons is because I believe we all know how that stuff looks and most, if not all, ballistics always show a fiery white-ish yellow when used. If you need to know what kind of Damage is given when Ballistic weapons are used, try to compare them to the plasma counterparts below.

Plasma Beam Rifles: A Plasma Beam Rifle is the standard for most battle strikers here on Novus. These weapons fire a bluish hue of energy and can be have various different outputs. The higher the output, the darker the color and vise-versa. Most PBR types and outputs are capable of destroying most standard armors and composites, solid shields are capable of blocking up to 3 shots in the same spot before getting holed and while adding an deflective coating can defend before burning off of the shield in an additional 3.

Plasma Bolters: Plasma Bolters and any weapon of similar class are slightly faster in firing rates than a PBR. The shots from these weapons are a very dark blue hue and can easily hurt moderate to heavy armors as there is usually a molten spawl effect that creates a high heat burning for softening targets. A basic shield can block up to 2 before taking any major damage and about 2 more if a deflective coating present on the shield.

Plasma Arc Cannon: Plasma Arc Cannons are a UNION Creation meant to provide ample fire support over distances and to cut off enemy retreat paths if the situation calls for it. The shots fired from this over the shoulder weapon are fast and powerful and like a Bolter, have molten spawl effect that adds to the splash damage for softening any targets not hit directly. The shots fire from this are a hot pink color and are also affected by gravity over distances. A normal shield will be destroyed in one hit regardless of a deflective coating.

Plasma Edge Broad Blade: A plasma edge broad blade is a simple sword like weapon that has a narrow opening along the blades edges. From inside those edges is a purple energy plasma blade that increases cutting efficiency and helps soften armored targets that block the solid blade part. Normal shields can block up to 2 swipes in the same spot, but can block up to 8 with a deflective coating.

Plasma Beam Cannons: Plasma Beam Cannons are common to battleships, they fire powerful Purple colored shots capable of taking down most targets of ships and battle strikers alike. More powerful versions of this cannons are distinct from normal as their shots are seen as colored a deep dark blue. Any Battle strikers attempting to block with a solid shield with, or without, a deflective coating will be in for problems as the shots from any of these cannons will destroy both your shield and possible rip of the arm with it. Energy based shields might have more of a chance but standard emitters are prone to blowing out.

Plasma Vulcans and CIWS: Most battleships and most of the Alliances striker units use Plasma based anti-air and anti-personnel turrets and head mounts. These fire high amounts of really light purple plasma bolts that instantly kill infantry, destroy missiles on approach, and damage simple systems on battle strikers and some battleships. Most shield types can block this without any real problems.

Plasma Swords: Plasma swords and sabers are simple energy blades emitted from a hilt and kept in place by powerful magnetic fields. The reddish colored blades are strong enough to cut basic shields in one go while a deflective coating can block up to 3 swipes. Energy Based shields are unhindered.

Here is a little bit about the power plants and engine types.

Mark 1.5 Plasma Reactor: The Mark 1.5 Plasma Reactor is an ARUS invention that was released in Polara 28. The Reactor provides high powered energy output separate from a battleships main nuclear core. This allows a ship to operate general necessities with regular power, while using the plasma reactor to power weapons and energize a Battle Strikers compact version which can vary in output from 2500kW to about 6500 kW in power. It is unconfirmed if the reactor is recharging it self through self replication at a molecular level, but this is being investigated by ARUS to see if this can be taken advantage of. This Reactor is used by both sides as United Innovation purchased several units during their release.

The Ion Engine: The Ion Engine is a particle collection unit that uses particles to power a ships thrusters. While ships still use fuel based rocket thrusters for general travel, the Ion engine is used to provide a less stress on fuel consumption and to provide a lighter lift in flight. While the Alliance was able to Perfect their Ion Engine in the release of the Mk.2, United Innovation also purchases multiple units of the Mk.2 and secretly develop it into the Mk.3 which changes the Ion Engines output from almost 40,000kgs of thrust to a little over 120,000kgs. The Mk.3 also features a more efficient power distribution flow. The Alliance is currently trying to obtain the MK.3 for use of the Republic Alliance forces.
