Welcome to Colverton Zoo! Colverton is one of the largest and well funded zoos in the world. It is home to many endangered species as it is key in reintroducing animals on the verge of extinction back into the wild via its breeding programs. It is also quiet interesting because Colverton is preparing for numerous births of some endangered fauna. This go round, we visit it's most well known section... Indonesia. We are going to check out some recent additions. Firstly... We are at the Reese Building. ![]() The Reese Building named after Dr. Hanna Reese, is the primary home facility to the zoos 5 Sumatran Elephants. Upon entry... We come to the privacy housing for the 2 males, Thunder and Chai. Here we see Thunder who is not allowed outside at the moment via an incident with a female. ![]() Here is both male pens. ![]() Around the corner is the larger open pen for the 3 female, Lotus, Sirikit and Amporn. ![]() ![]() ![]() Once we exit the building we can head to the next section of the elephant habitat. ![]() ![]() Look to your right The elephants are outside! ![]() ![]() Lets enter the yard building now

Thanks Dudes!![]() Inside we see the elephnats in three natural environments. Here is the yard. ![]() ![]() ![]() The large dusty yard simulates a forest clearing in their native Sumatra. ![]() ![]() Here is Thunder who is very sad because he isnt allowed in the yard just yet. ![]() The next viewing point highlights the thick dense grass of the jungle. Look close for the elephants. ![]() ![]() A close view... ![]() The sun is fighting to shine before the rain comes... ![]() The thick grasses are replanted very often via them being trampled and eaten. ![]() One section left to see in the elephant habitat. see you soon. |

Thanks guys. I edit them. I crop some, add contrast to some and I sharpen them all. Here we are at the last section of the elephant habitat. ![]() This large, airy room is very cool and breezy. It provides the best photo ops of the pachyderms. It offers views into their watery playground. ![]() Welcome to the pool ![]() ![]() Lotus ![]() Amporn ![]() and finally as a good bye surprise to the elephants, we get to see The Mighty Thunder out in the yard! Congrats Thunder! ![]() See you at the next enclosure... Edited by chach, Jun 27 2012, 01:28 PM.

I love the sky re-skin! I did something similar for my rainforest map sky. Great all around, feels like an old time zoo with all the architecture, and really feels Asian. |
