We all have varying opinions on zoos from around the world. Some are excellent, some are ok,and some just make you sick to your stomach. Now when you say what is the best/worst zoo you've ever been to, here is what the post should look like. Best Zoo: Name of Zoo When I went there: Where it was: City,Country Why is it good: Reasons. Make sure to go into detail about any reasons whether it be about the maintenance of the visitor grounds, the diversity or animal welfare. Worst Zoo: Name of Zoo When I went there: Where it was: City,Country Why is it bad: Reasons. Make sure to go into detail about any reasons whether it be about the maintenance of the visitor grounds, the diversity or animal welfare. Yes, you have to do it for each one. You may actually see a pattern if you are honest to fill out the information right. |

I have not been to any really bad zoos so please excuse my choices ![]() Best Zoo: Seaworld Orlando When I went there: 3 years ago Where it was: Orlando Florida USA Why is it good: I often hear many people complain about Seaworld keeping marine animals, but after seeing them there myself and speaking with keepers, I do beleive they really try there best and care about the animals. Also, while not straying to far from there main theme they managed to include many native species in there exhibits. They also do not take animals from the wild anymore (even there own rescues, which go to smaller rehabs) except for some of there pelicans. Worst Zoo: Toronto Zoo When I went there: 3 weeks ago Where it was: Toronto Ontario Canada Why is it bad: It was still an amazing zoo by all means, most of the animals were happy and comfortable. However I found it to be far to lacking with guest rule enforcment, most of the animals were unattended and to many people ignored the signage, young children were running about everywhere screaming and trying to grab and hurt the animals, and in the free flight aviaries (should be attended at ALL times) people were holding the multiple doors open with signs right on them that said not to!!! many species of exotic butterflies were simply floating about the zoo, probably not going to last a week in our Canadian weather. It sickens me that the keepers do nothing about this, what If some of the birds had escaped from in there! The worst however was "Stingray bay", touch encounters should always be attended and strictly monitored, but of course they weren't people just reached in and grabbed the poor rays (which were also not in a large enough tank IMO) many of them had torn fins and were bleeding and/or swollen, it was awfully saddening, unlike the stingray tank at Seaworld it was unmonitored and the rays weren't given enough space, at Seaworld they came over to get food from you and even enjoyed a nice gentle touch (which the keepers made sure happened) at Toronto they were in such a small tank that they had to choice but to be pushed up against the sides by each other where people giving them no concern or carefulness could grab them, they even splashed out at people occasionally from getting pined against the walls. It was a hard job to find a ray that wasn't injured in some manner, you are only supposed to touch the flippers and to let them touch into you not to grab, but did anyone care? NO!!! they all had very painful looking finger nail scratches along their backs it was awful The worst part of my vacation by far was Stingray Bay Edited by Replicator, Jul 31 2012, 12:56 PM.

Best Zoo: Burgers Zoo When I went there: January Where it was: Arnhem, The Netherlands Why is it good: The zoo is devided in clear theme areas like the safari (Which has a large lion enclosure, a large Cheetah enclosure and a savannah enclosure habited by white rhino's, giraffes, zebra's, wildebeests and several other hoofed mammal species native to the savannahs of Africa), The rimba (With animals native to South-East Asia including malayan bears, gibbons, pythons, water monitor lizards, Bintorungs, Sumatran tigers and Banteng cattle), a large indoor area which is devided in Burger's Bush (An indoor rainforest with free-ranging birds and bats en exibits aardvarks, West Indian manatee, caimans and some fish.), Burgers Ocean (Consisting of several aquariums with many tropical fish and a large shark tank which houses one of the few scalloped hamm, erhead sharks in Europe) and Burgers Desert (An indoor desert with free ranging birds and exhibits bobcats, big horn sheep, Pecaries and smaller reptiles like tortoises and gila monsters.) It also has large enclosures for chimpanzees and gorilla's, many interesting bird species, an indoor mangrove area and several seperate enclosures housing Lowland tapirs, Sri Lanka Panthers, Jackels, seals, lemurs, reindeer and elderly Asian elephants. The zoo is easily accesible with public transport which also is a big plus. Worst Zoo: Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park When I went there: 3 years ago Where it was: Stirling, Scotland Why is it bad: This park is badly accessible with public transport and though some animals (Like the lions, Pere Davids Deer, White Rhino's and African Elephants had roomy enclosures, there were also some small poor enclosures like for the giraffes, meerkats and penguins. The sea lion show wasn't very interesting and some animals like the African Elephants greatly lacked any form of enrichments. Edited by Dinosaur Keeper, Oct 4 2012, 04:58 PM.
