Summary: Establishes the World Assembly Patent Office, an organization responsible for issuing patents to inventors in World Assembly member states. Member states must recognize WAPO patents for the term set by the WAPO. Analysis: I recently repealed the previous World Assembly resolution on patents because it permitted member states to simply disregard the international patent system it established. Research and development of new inventions requires a great investment of time, labour, and capital. If member states are free to refuse to recognize patents, they are free to mass produce and sell inventions at a fraction of the cost required to develop them and so will inevitably undercut the original inventor. This replacement does not share this flaw. |
