Welcome to NationStates! This is a very basic guide to the primary aspects of the game: in-game, roleplay, R/D, the community, and our government. As a disclaimer, you don't need to be involved in all of these things; you may pick and chose as you desire. In-game In-game work primarily involves posting on our regional message board and answering issues. It's not particularly fun and is hardly the best aspect of NationStates. Your issues impact your nation category. You should also join the World Assembly and endorse our delegate in the game because this helps the region stay secure. Roleplay Roleplaying is essentially pretending to control a nation and writing stories about it with other people. Here in Okatama, we have a map that you can get yourself added onto and you can write with fellow region members. Here is a basic guide to roleplaying. Our Director of Interior Affairs oversees roleplaying. Feel free to start a new story in the Roleplay forum. Defending and Raiding (R/D) Raiding is the practice of trying to take the WA Delegacies of other regions by having "troops", or players, endorse people who will claim the target region under their flag. For example, if The Black Hawks wanted to invade Discordia, they would move WA nations in and endorse a point man. Defenders try to stop raids because they feel they are destructive and they do so by moving in with their WA nations and endorsing the WA delegate. If the raiders already took the region, they may try to push the old delegate back into power. Whoever has the most endorsements after update is the delegate. Update is the time the game processes issues, national happenings, regional rankings, and so on. It happens during the hours of 12am-1am EST and 12pm-1pm EST. The basics of gameplay are explained here. The Community One of the best ways to engage yourself in the game is to interact with our community on IRC, these boards, and our in-game RMB. We have three branches of the government that you can get involved in without election; you can be in our army, in our media group, and/or in our assembly. Everyone who is in the army or media group is in our assembly. The media writes stories like this about NS world happenings, regional happenings of importance, and so on. The Army participates in R/D in the way described above and is defender-leaning. The Government We also have a regional government that is tasked with protecting the region and making it more fun for everyone. Our constitution can be found in the link index above and that is the supreme legal document of the region. To participate in the government, you must apply for citizenship. From there you can post legislation proposals in the Governor's Forum and vote in elections and votes. Reading the constitution is the best way to gain an understanding of how the region works. |
