In stage 1 of the competition, you are invited to write short pieces either for the Kokoro Ensemble or for cathedral choir. 24 pieces will be shortlisted (12 for choir; 12 for ensemble)

1) the pieces for Kokoro will be workshopped in the Victoria Rooms, either in our Recital Room or in the Auditorium (you can take a virtual tour of the Auditorium here; just watch out - the virtual tour makes me feel sea sick within seconds!) . and there is a picture of the recital room here.

2) Half the pieces for cathedral choir will be workshopped by Christ Church cathedral choir in Oxford (we intend to use St Peter's College Chapel for the workshopping - it is a lovely space - the cathedral won't really work because they have hundreds and hundreds of visitors through every day). The other half will be workshopped by Bristol Cathedral Choir. Again, there are too many visitors to the cathedral for us to take it over for a whole day, so we hope to use the Lord Mayor's Chapel in Bristol. Again, it's a nice performance space. People wanting to use organ accompaniment will want to look up the organ specifications of each place (we would be willing to receive a version for cathedral use and a version for use with these smaller organs if you want).

In stage 2, six winners will be commissioned to write longer pieces for either choir or ensemble. They will be performed in a concert in 2017. THey will probably be premiered in Bristol Cathedral (the choir pieces), and the Victoria Rooms auditorium (the auditorium pieces), but it is too far away for us to have pinned that down yet!
