Dear Composers,

Do you fancy playing with neumes on your computer? If so, this is the post for you! B-)

At Bristol University we have developed a new web application designated to undertake automated musical analysis of the old Hispanic chant: the Chant Editor and Analysis Program (from now onwards CEAP).

CEAP integrates the traditional palaeographical analysis based on observation, philological comparison and critical reading of the manuscript, with the potential offered by a computer tool, which has the capacity to store data and make automatic analysis.

CEAP allows neumes to be transcribed into a database in a form which can be interpreted and analysed by software while retaining, as far as possible, the appearance of the original manuscript. In CEAP it is possible to make musical analysis of Old Hispanic notation based on matching melodic contours and seeking related neume patterns and/or single notational shapes.

You can make a virtual tour of CEAP using these credentials:

password: guest2015

Have a look at CEAP and feel free to ask any questions!

All best,

Elsa De Luca
