TO THE GRADER, and to newcomers

It has been at least a week since that marine known has Nezuel had dropped him off at Hungova Island, and apparently this was not looking good for the fluffy haired Xelobo. And currently Xelobo was being held in a cell on the bottom floor in the base, which was a good six stories below ground from what the half-winged man could tell from being transported there.

He had his beloved chain weapon, Zetsubo Kibo, taken from him by one of the jail guards, as he was afraid Xelobo would harm a guard, much worse, be able to hang himself in one of the jail cells. They needed Xelobo alive long enough to make an example of him to the people, to show what happens when they murder a marine. Sure, the marine was corrupt from what was gathered, but Xelobo, currently a normal citizen, decided to take actions into his own hands as if he was a vigilantic pirate or something. The marines wanted to remain visible to the public as the main guardians, not some lunatic wackjob that claims he killed a corrupt marine.

They also took his jacket away from him, letting it hang in the middle of the hallway Xelobo's cell was within, as they had found bottles of undetermined liquids inside of it. Xelo did not want to say what they were, mainly because he knew that the instant they find out that they are bottles of oil, they would be disposed of due to Xelo's devil fruit power. Speaking of Xelobo, he was inside of a seastone jail cell that only had a single chair and an extremely uncomfortable chair in the corner of the room. He is still wearing the seastone cuff Nezuel put on him, as they were all afraid of what Xelo would do once he gets his powers back.

Xelobo would say that life was alright being a prisoner, but not being able to heat his own food the right temperature was quite a pain in the butt. And speaking of the food they serve here, most of it is practically inedible by normal people. It was disgusting slop that had no nutritional value whatsoever. They probably feed the same stuff to pigs!

At the moment, Xelobo was in nothing but a plain white T-shirt with a weird line design on it, black denim jeans, and olive/red shoes. He was laying on the floor, facing the ceiling as he was singing the same song he sang back in that barrel, wanting to remember the song as a whole, but to no avail. And while singing, he started to think of how he could improve people's viewpoint on the government being corrupt as a whole, as just talking about it would send red flags to anyone...

The marines stationed on this island had the half-winged man forced onto them by Nezuel. At first, they would only keep Xelobo here as a precaution to whether the man murdered a marine or not. But after a whole week of nothing, they decided to do something without consent from Nez or Xelobo...

Currently, there were two marines in the lobby of a hotel right next to the Marine base. One was male, the other was female, and the male had quite the frazzled, unkempt long hair. He and the female marine were eating turkey-bagel sandwiches that morning, and were just having idle chat. But the topic that was of note was them, talking about the execution of a half-winged person that would happen in three days time.

The man then says with a hearty chuckle, "...apparently, the man's name was Xelobo Olagaxia, and he claims he had eaten a devil fruit that lets himself light his own body on fire without harming himself... And that damaged wing of his was a sight, as it was a part of his body! Heh, later today, during interrogations, I might let ya touch his wing my protege!

Anywho, since you are new to being a marine, I think we should give you your first execution job... Where you will execute that man in a couple days, as he claims to have killed a corrupt marine. To be honest, we have no idea whether that is true or not, but the populace believe that story, so we have to execute him one way or another... Crazy bastard shoulda come to us, as we actually know how to handle that stuff, unlike troublesome civilians like him."

Little to their knowledge, someone was overhearing their conversation in full... Someone who might have an interest in Xelobo's well-being in one way or another.

You think this is a game!?
She Has been sitting in a chair with a small table in front of her, where her accomplice had also been sitting. She had one leg folded over the other and had her cheek rested on a fist. She had set down a cup of tea on the said table and laid her free hand on the table itself. The woman had short black hair and exotic tan skin. She wore a very unique wardrobe about her with this very high up complex mixture of gold, blue and white. The woman appeared to have her eyes closed as she sat there with her Accomplice. Her plus one had been sitting there with his hands crossed on the table with a somewhat serious expression on his face while the woman seemed to have a smile.

The woman's eyes had finally opened up, revealing her green gems for eyes. She had looked directly to her accomplice who had been sitting there patiently waiting for this moment. The woman ran her finger across a bagel that she had seemed to procrastinate on eating before changing legs she was resting on the other.

"mmm...you hear that..?"

She asked her plus one who had nodded.
"For you, I listen to whatever be spoken in your proximity" He rehearsed although she knew that well enough.

The two of them spoke quietly, not at a volume anyone outside the table they were at could hear of course.
The woman picked up the cup that had held her tea and took a sip before setting it back on the table once again.
"A boy with a wing..."
Her eyes shifted to the direction the two Marines had been sitting without moving her head.
"mm hehehehehehe....I think this is something I have to see for myself...not only that...the boy not only killed a marine..but a corrupt one...or so they say..."
She shut her eyes for a moment before opening them back up once again.

"Asgo...this boy can not be allowed to die, I desire him. We shall retrieve what is mine on this day."

Asgo, her accomplice stood to his feet and nodded, immediately walking outside. The woman in gold chuckled softly.

"Asgo...always overdoing it..."

Meanwhile on the outside he appeared to be buying fruit from a stand near the hotel, while the woman in gold had still been on the inside, awaiting for Asgo's plan to fall into place.

Two and a half hours... That's how long Xelobo had been singing. And the two marine guards that guarded the jail hall that Xelobo were in have had it with this crazy singing. At first, they let him be, as he was a new prisoner and he seemed nice enough. Then minutes passed by, which then turned to hours.

The two rock paper scissored for who would go tell Xelobo to shut up. And they went all the way to round 14, as the two kept on tying. The larger guard lost on the fourteenth round, and so the muscular guard walked to Xelobo's cell with an iron baton. He stopped at the man's cell, and smashed his baton against the bars, and shouts at the man lying on the ground, "Will you please SHUT the ever loving HELL UP!?"

Xelobo did not even seem phased by the man's threats or startled by the sudden baton slamming on the cell bars. However, he shut his mouth and turned his head towards the guard, and says with a blank face, piercing the marine's eyes with dull eyes, "So, when will I be able to leave then? I mea-"

The winged man quickly silenced himself as the man slams his baton into the bars again, shouting once more, "HOW WOULD I KNOW!? Besides, you apparently murdered a marine-"

"Corrupt Marine," Xelobo corrected.

With a grumble, the man continues what he was saying, "and until we have confirmation of what happened, you are staying in that cage. Now shut up or I'll make you shut u-"

The man silenced himself once he heard a weird noise. He looked around, wondering where the sound came from. He jumped in complete surprise when Xelobo had hopped up, quickly bolted towards the cage door, and grasped onto the iron baton. Xelobo pulled on it and says with his laugh, which was what the weird noise was, "Ugwahahahaha... Or what will you do, open this cell door and beat up a person who has nothing but the best intentions for everyone in this world? Beat me up with that pathetic excuse of a metal stick? Stomp me into the ground until I cough up blood? I would have great respect if you somehow do any of those things to me."

All the while saying this, he stared deep into the muscular man's eyes as his own started looking weirder... As circle outlines overlayed one another on Xelobo's eyes, which scared the living hell out of the guard. The smaller guard started running down the hallways, shouting random obscenities, but stopped once Xelobo let go of the baton. The fluffy haired man then says, "I know that I'm going to be released, as I have done right to this world and nothing wrong to good people like you. Now go back to doing your job and keep the actual criminals inside bars, riiiiiight?"

The muscular guard shudders as he backs away from the cell, and walks back to where his buddy was. But, just as the two guards made it back to their starting point, they could hear humming coming from Xelobo's cell. This time, they just let the crazy boy do his thing.

---------------------------------------

Meanwhile, the two marines who were having their break were just finishing up with their food. The older of the two look up at the clock and notice that it was almost noon, and nearly had a spit take. He looked at his apprentice and said to her, "Crap, we need to go back to HQ in order to interrogate that kid and ask about what happened. And I will be sure to let you touch his wing... It's oddly more fluffy than you would think."

With that, the two of them got up and started walking towards the Marine HQ, chatting about random things. The two were unknowing of the presence of the crazily dressed woman or the gentleman that works under her.

I just do what I do
Gwen listened intently to her peer who was in charge of training her. His name was Bryan and he was an Ensign, like her, but had been one much longer. She couldn't help but wonder why he had been the lowest rank so long, but she didn't want to be the judge of this person. She had only known him a short while. The two of them were getting lunch in the hotel next to the marine base, and despite the staleness of the bagel, she was trying her best to enjoy the food. Bryan was explaining to her that the prisoner that they had in the base right now was a weird fella who ate a devil fruit and had a wing and even allegedly killed a marine, specifically a corrupt marine.

The man before her then made an offhanded statement that made Gwen's stomach turn. She would be the one to execute the prisoner "Xelobo" because she was new and apparently needed that kind of experience.

Execute?? A prisoner we don't even know for certain has done anything wrong? This cannot be.

Gwen's peer stated that they would interrogate the man, but ultimately his death was all but assured. The people believed it to be true, and so to calm them, this man's death was required. Would Gwen even be able to stand for this? Was this what she joined the marines for? Her parents would probably know what to do.

Mom...Dad...guide me here.

Gwen's partner checked the time and realized they were late to the interrogation which Gwen didn't even think was possible.

Is the prisoner just going to not wait for us?

Keeping her smiley face on throughout the conversation, she made comments to Bryan about justice and the like, and their conversation on the way back to the HQ was full of talks of justice. Gwen still didn't think Bryan had the right kind, himself.

Once the two arrived back at HQ they walked the stairs to reach the cell block, Gwen had to separate the two of them.

"Hey Bry, do you think I could do this? It is my first interrogation and all, but I think I would learn better by myself."

She hated to use her female charm, but she had to give her peer a sad look.

"Sure! Let me know if you need any help with the killer."

Gwen shuttered a bit and headed through the door that would take her to the cell block. Once she opened the door, however, she heard a soft humming noise. Following it down the row, she found exactly who she was looking for.

"Are you Xelobo?"

Xelobo noticed in how the marines that were guarding the hallway had left their post, leaving the fluffy haired man alone. But that didn't stop him from humming, and letting him mull over his thoughts. The memories of him murdering that marine became entirely clear to him now. However, before he could full explore them, he heard a voice behind the doors.

Then he hears the doors unclanking, unlatching, and opening. The fluffy haired man who was sitting on the ground of his cell stretched upward as he was preparing to face another marine who would shout and scream without trying to prove Xelobo's guilt. Probably even one of the speeches of 'leaving justice to the real enforcers of the law'.

However, what he heard enter the room wasn't the sound of heavy footsteps of a man. I mean, the marine men that walked this hallway always walked with force and strength in each step. It was in fact a pair of lighter steps, probably belonging to a weak male marine, or any female marine that wasn't fat.

The best case scenario happened when the human came into view of his holding cell. The instant her eyes met his, Xelobo smiled and stopped his humming noise and walked up to the bars of the cell. She had asked her question, and the man decided to stop a couple feet away from the jail bars.

With a very slight tilt of his said, Xelobo said with a somewhat unnervingly innocent smile on his face, "Why yes I am. I am Xelobo Olagaxia, and who do I have the pleasure of meeting toda- wait..."

With a sudden start, Xelobo starts sniffing the air. He sniffs more and more as he gets closer to the bars, his face nearly touching them as his nose goes through the other side and sniffs closer towards the marine woman in front of him. After a couple more sniffs, he grins twice as large as he backs away from the bars, saying in a more excited tone...

"Oh, is that what I think it is!? Do I smell a bagel on you. Please, you MUST share one with me, I implore you to."

He was sick and tired of marine crap... He wanted actual food, and this was the best thing he could get. He was going to get himself a nice, soft, delicious, godly bagel! If the woman wasn't going to give it to him, he'd get it one way... or another.

Gwen looked carefully at the man they called a marine killing criminal. What she saw surprised her, as he immediately took on the charm of a little child, and then that of a drug addict. He went through so many emotions that it was actually getting hard to catch up. He was only half through a question when he began his rant about bagels. The young marine was taken off guard, but she maintained composure and a smile all the same.

"My name is Ensign Gwendolyn, but you can call me Gwen! It's nice to meet you, even though everyone thinks you're a killer."

Looking through her bag on her side, she rummaged through it for a second and pulled out a bagel. Xelobo was looking like he might die if he didn't get this bagel.

"I'm going to give you this bagel. In return I need some information regarding the event that you claim happened."

Gwen handed the bagel through the bars to the half winged prisoner. She felt like he could be trusted, or like he wasn't guilty of a crime. His body language and way of speaking just wasn't convincing her of any such crime. She wasn't a master of psychology, however. The young marine would need to be careful.

"So you say that you killed a marine, a corrupt one at that. I have a hard time believing already that such a thing existed, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Can you give me a location that this took place, or maybe a name of such marine?"

Gwen was naive, only when it came to the marines integrity, but it was that of a child never seeing their hero do something wrong. She couldn't believe a marine would do something on the line of evil, much less corrupt, until she saw such a thing with her eyes.

Xelobo calmed down a little once the bagel has been passed through the bar. He gently took the bagel from Gwen, as he listens to her request. The instant that Xelobo had full ownership of the bagel, Xelobo says in calmly in a very quick emotion change, "Well Miss Gwen, I will tell you everything about what happened. I mean, once you guys realize I did you guys a favor rather than commit a 'heinous crime,' I'm sure we'll all see justice for all."

The instant he was finished speaking, he took a big bite out of his delicious bagel. It was everything that he could have ever asked for in a situation like this. And with this, his smile became much softer, and evidently calmer as well. Xelobo with a voice of happiness, stays silent for a short while as he recalls his memory one more time.

He then sits his plum self on the ground and looks up at Gwen. He puts his head on his chin as he opens his mouth and says politely, "Well, it's been a while, so I barely remember the marine's name. He was calling himself 'Bab S. Tacker,' if I'm recalling correctly. He had a dark tinge of dark green hair, and a pair of emerald eyes to go along with them."

He takes a pause so that he can bite into his bagel once more, and swallow a huge chunk of it. After wiping some of the crumbs off his face, and licking them off of his fingers, the man continues with, "And I met him at Shell Town, where I noticed him selling rifles to people that looked of ill notoriety. I followed the group of people he sold the rifles to, and watched them attack a poor caravan of people. Quickly enough, Tacker was there almost at the perfect time with his squad and chased away said bandits. As he was helping up the lady who nearly got all her clothes torn off from the scuffle, I came out of the forest and confronted the dastard myself."

He paused for a bit to take another bite of his bagel, and with a little food in his mouth, he says to her, "Sherioushly, shank you for getching me thish bagel. You habe no idea how bad the crab they sherved me really wazh."

After he had rudely spoken with his mouth full of food, he swallowed it and, after clearing his throat a little, he continued, "At first, nobody believed me that he was selling weapons to bandits. However, the instant I told them to check their weapon storage, he shouted at everyone to go and check the storage to see if there really was something stolen, because he was missing his storage key. The instant they left, he grabbed the woman in distress and bashes her in the back of her neck, knocking her unconscious. He then pointed a gun at her temple, and told me to allow myself to be killed, or she would die instead.

Seeing him for his true colors, I feigned surrender, and the instant he dropped his guard, and whipped my chain at him and pierced his skull through his eye. The instant that he was entirely dead, I threw the man into the ocean and carried the woman to the outskirts of town before I sailed away in a small boat. I got caught in a whirlpool, so I hopped in the boat's barrel and allowed myself to float until someone found me or I floated to shore."

He then stops for a decent while, and says with a small laugh, "I assume you wanted me to tell you the whole story, correct? I mean, you wouldn't ask me only name and location, Ughwahahahaaha~"

Gwen listened very intently to Xelobo's story of what happened. She decided to sit on the floor like the half angel did when he took a seat himself. The story was unraveling right before her and she was making the proper connections. Once it was all over, she knew it right away.

This man is innocent.

Coming to such a conclusion may seem odd, but there was crucial knowledge that Gwen was akin to. She was born in Shell Town. Her parents were both marines and they raised her there, and she met every single marine that worked there and they rarely got transfers. "Bab S. Tacker" was a nobody. Why, however, would this man lie about something like this? Even if he is innocent, he could still serve a small jail time for such crimes.

Gwen paused herself a bit after the story concluded and cleared her throat. Moving in closer to the bars she started to whisper to the half angel.

"Mr. Xelobo, why are you lying about something like this? They want to kill you! You could die from a lie like this. I don't want that to happen."

The death of anyone was something Gwen wanted to prevent, but especially the life of an innocent man. He did lie to the authorities, but either way, that is something that could be reformed.

Xelobo was actually a little shocked by the lass's accusation, and also by the fact that she was leveling with him on a reasonable level as to be so casually informal as to sit on the ground. More so on the former, however, because the story was pretty sound. I mean, Xelobo himself was there himself. He was witness to the crimes the marine made, and killed him for it. Sure it seemed like vigilantism, but to outright say that he was entirely making it up.

"Ugwahahahahha~" Xelobo let out to her accusation. It sort of angered him, to be doubted, but it was funny in how she was so certain in his innocence. He shook his head as he turned his gaze towards the ground. He muttered something incomprehensible, as he was trying to figure out why she was claiming such an idiotic notion. I mean, the half-winged man remembered the moment his chain pierced the man through his eye.

He turns his gaze up and into the Gwen's eyes, and says to her, "Well, I really do appreciate you for wanting to see the good in me. But I can't say that I'm innocent. I killed a corrupt marine through and through. Mr. Stacker is swimming with the Sea Kings now."

He takes one more bite of the bagel, as he starts recalling the events in his head one more time, but something that he said didn't click for some reason... Things were starting to unclick about this entire situation, but he was still purely adamant about him killing that corrupt marine.

Despite Gwen's certainty that no such crime was committed, the half winged angel was still adamant in thinking that he had killed a marine that hadn't even existed. It was ridiculous, and it was a lie that could very easily cost him his angel life. Gwen had to think of something. She was from the island that it happened, maybe she could talk to her higher ups and they would understand that she was certain on this.

"Either way Mr. Xelobo, I'm going to have to tell my higher ups about this. I really don't want to see anyone die, much less an innocent one such as yourself. I don't know why you're doing this, but it's my job to protect all people. That includes you."

She would give him a smile from the depths of her heart as he was mumbling to himself. She really hoped he would see the truth in his own lies, if that was the case. If he truly believed himself to have killed a man that never existed, what would she have to do to convince him of his own innocence?

Getting up and patting the back of her pants to get the dust off, she looked back at the half winged angel. She got sad for a quick second before pulling herself back together.

If angels think they are committing crimes, then who is innocent?

"You're innocent and I know it. I'll have you out of there soon. I can't promise you won't get a stern talking' to though!"

She smiled and gave him a quick wink before heading back in the way she came. She was looking for her boss of the base to talk to about this situation. After a couple of minutes of searching, she eventually found him coming out of his office.

"Gwen! Hey, just the girl I was looking for. So, did you want to do your first execution in the next coming days? That angel guy is in trouble!"

"Yes Capt. Gen, that is what I wanted to talk about. After interrogating the man, I can say with 100% certainty that he is innocent! I lived on the island that he claims to have killed the man until I came here just yesterday. There is nobody of that name that was there, nor are there any kind of 'corrupt' marines."

Gwen's commander looked at her and cocked his head to one side.

"So? The people think he did it, so we execute him. You'll be the one to do it, so if you're squeamish, you might wanna get over it."

Xelobo was starting to lose it a little, as she was saying that he was innocent... Yet not bring out any proof or evidence. She just claimed that he was innocent, and was sticking with that decision. She must be a naive marine, as she probably sees the good over the evil. Sure, Xelobo did a good thing killing a corrupt marine, but he did take a life. Truly she was naive.

She then promised the fluffy haired man that she'd fix the entire situation up, and left him for what he would assume would be a short while. Meanwhile, Xelobo finished eating the bagel that Gwen gave to Xelobo. Before Xelobo could even get a word in, she left him to his own inner devices.

He started going through the entire scenario once more throughout his mind, trying to figure out what the woman saw as conclusive proof that he was innocent. However, when he replayed in his mind, something seemed off. He didn't know what it was, but it seemed that the scenario in which he had killed that corrupt marine had changed... It was at this point that he realized that he really might be innocent.

"Ugwa~" Xelobo let out, before bursting out into a full blown, "Ughwahahahahahahaaaa~"

Although he felt like a complete idiot, it finally all makes sense. It must have been a hallucination, a dream, or maybe even a fake memory his mind created for no reason, as he finally realized that there really was chance that he didn't kill the person. His mind was trying to patch up the broken memory that started breaking apart, after someone actually made Xelobo try to see why he would be seen as 'innocent.' However, he wasn't laughing because he truly was innocent. He was laughing because he was innocent, but considered guilty under the eye of the marines and, more importantly, the World Government.

Xelobo will take his little flight of dementia into a full blown experiment in seeing how far the World Government will go to punish an innocent.

Gwen's mouth hung open as her commander told her what he did.

Did he just? Did he just admit we have no evidence of the man we currently have in a cell, and are planning to execute?

Gwen stood there and hesitated for a moment. The commander looked at her quizzically but Gwen replied softly.

"Yeah, okay."

After this she turned and walked back to the door that lead to the cell block. She leaned on it, feeling the cold heavy metal handle in her hands. Using every bit of her being, she forced back tears that desperately wanted to get out. Would she really have to kill this man? Chop his head... A small tear would leak it's way out of her right eye. She shook her face and held firm. Her face was probably very red, but she couldn't have a peer see her right now. They would think she was weak, and she couldn't have that. But what could she do?

Walking in the cell block and going in the office at the very end, she noticed it was empty of the Lieutenant that was usually stationed here. Walking in, on the wall of keys, she noticed one to be different from the rest. This key was specifically to cuffs. She remembered Xelobo was wearing a single cuff and it hit her.

It is my job, as a marine, to enforce justice, as well as protect the people.

Gwen took the unusual key off the rack, as well as the cell keys as well. She quickly closed the door, leaving everything as it was, and continued walking down the cell block, whispering her statement as she went.

Reaching the familiar half angel, she sat down on the ground in front of his cell. It was her duty to be patrolling the cell block so nobody would be interrupting.

"Hi."

Gwen said, as she was trying to hide her face. She would need to talk for a bit longer before she was ready to go through with what it was she was going to do.

Xelobo was patiently waiting for Gwen to return, as he started thinking about how far he was going to take his delusions. Maybe he would take this to as far as him being declared as being executed. However, there was always a chance that the marine who arrested him, Nez, would come back and somehow claim for Xelobo's innocence like Gwen... However, from what Xelobo could remember, Nez would be too cold to do such a thing.

That was when he heard the doors open once again, heard a slight jingling sound, and heard footsteps walk towards his cell. The same light footsteps alerted him to the same person that actually either believed in his innocence, or somehow figured it out on her own. Gwen had come around the corner, and sat right down in front of the cell.

She light heartedly greeted him once more, which made the fluffy haired man tilt his head again in curiousity. She was just so upbeat and confident up until just a while ago, and this was almost a complete 180 in her personality. Either someone insulted her, or Xelobo was about to be given some bad news.

With his innocent smile on his face, he asked Gwen in his usual breathy voice, "So, how did your chat with the superior office go? I hope that it went as well as you had hoped... If it went well, I would like my Zetsubo Kibo back from him. However, judging from your moodiness, I'm assuming that it wasn't good news in the slightest... Was it?"

Even when he talked about things that would spell bad news for him, he was still having his smile on his face. Things were luckily falling into place for him, for his makeshift plan of ideals.

I just do what I do
Gwen heard Xelobo's statement and emotions welled inside her. The marines want to execute this poor man, and he had done nothing wrong.

What kind of world is this...what am I apart of?

Gwen curled her legs up so her knees were touching her face. She tried her best to hold it back, but she couldn't contain her tears. Her body convulsed and the tears began to flow. She hid her face behind her knees, but it was clear what was happening. The young marine hated death as it was, and understood that marines executed people from time to time, but something about executing an innocent man was just disgusting to her.

Gwen didn't want to seem weak in front of anyone, but she couldn't help it. Still with tears streaming down her face Gwen spoke to him in a stuttering cry voice that she kept down to just between them.

"Xe..Xelobo they are...are gonna kill youuuu...uuuu."

She continued to cry, mumbling as she did.

"I'm from Shell to..town, I kn...kn..know you're innocent. There wasn't even a Bab S. Tacker!"

Gwen wiped her tears. She was calming herself down. After a minute of calm breathing, she felt back to normal. Looking at the keys in her hands, Gwen knew what she had to do.

"You...I'm going to free you. You're getting out of here."

Xelobo could barely contain himself when the woman started crying. He had to fake a little bit of sympathy when she busted out crying, because he wanted to laugh at his own victory. The victory that the head officials of the marines were corrupt enough to plan an execution on someone on whom they had no evidence on whatsoever.

However, he needed an ally on the marines, in order to actually to consider it a true victory for him. That would be Gwen, and he would need no persuasion in her letting him out. After admitting out loud why she knew there was no such person as a Bab S. Tacker, she said that she would let him out.

That is a really bold claim for a marine to let out a man who everyone else said was guilty. He had to do a double take in order to fully process what she just said. This woman was about to let him out. So he gets proclaimed as a criminal by the marines, but gets to walk away as an innocent man... Or at the very least escape from a marine base as a future bounty.

He smiled and asked her as innocently as he possibly could, "Wait... So you would release a possibly guilty man, because you are almost positive in my innocence? Is your belief in me that strong. Because if it is, I really do thank you."
