I just do what I do
Gwen woke up in a sweat. She had a terrible dream involving herself and some unidentified people. One looked really familiar to her but she just couldn't place it. She was on an island made of a crystal and there was a lot of destruction. Faced with a moral dilemma she failed in front of the face of evil...again.

Such dreams weren't the norm for Gwen as she generally didn't dream, but last night was terrifying. Shaking her head and repeating her good mantra in her head, Gwen slipped out of her pajamas and into her marine uniform; a white three button up, a black over jacket, the marine justice coat around that, a black skirt, and her knee high socks as well as standard issue marine shoes. Looking in the mirror she assured herself that today would be a good day. Taking her den den mushi with her in her pocket she walked out her door.

The marine base was quiet. Nothing had happened today and there probably wasn't going to be anything happening either. On an island with almost everyone having a hangova, one such as Gwen could find peace with the quiet since she didn't drink.

Heading down the stairs to the main foyer she picked up an issue of the daily newspaper and headed into the staff room. Grabbing the ingredients to a sandwich she prepared to make one as she read through some of the news. She had to drop her utensils when she saw a specific part of the newspaper, however, out of straight shock. Going to the section that she most frequently looked at she saw a very familiar face among the normal criminals. It was her friend, Xelobo.

The fluffy haired man was waking up after spending a day at Candy Island. The previous day had been filled with him meeting a flying chupacabra who was actually a dark wolf who was actually the user of a special Zoan Devil Fruit, and the man's name was Leonidus. He did buy what he promised Gwen he'd get, which was a Den Den Mushi. And he did remember the frequency he needed to get to in order to call Gwen.

Laying in his bed as the sun rose, Xelobo was wearing nothing except a pair of jeans. He was resting his back on the comfy comforter, making sure that he wasn't crushing his own wing. Well, half of wing that he has, as the other wing and other half of that particular wing were ripped off as a young child. But that wasn't what was on his mind right now.

On his mind was Gwen, as he had a promise to keep. When she helped him escape, he promised that he'd call her whenever he can. Technically he should've called yesterday, but you don't call someone in front of the presence of someone else. So it was now today, and he had an obligation to keep. Still lying down on the bed, he reached over to his Den Den Mushi which was resting on the night stand. He dialed in the frequency numbers, and started the call.

On the other side of the Den Den Mushi, he heard a voice say, "Helloooo? Is this my grandsonny?"

Xelobo hung up the den den mushi, wondering who that was and why he called this old woman. He looked at the frequency number and then face palmed, saying out loud, "Damn it. I forgot a nine. Let's try that again."

He dialed the CORRECT number this time, and started calling Gwen's Den Den Mushi.

Moving closer to the bounty poster, Gwen's mouth hung open out of it's own volition. The poster looked so new, it was Xelobo's face with a jail cell background. He was smiling wide for the picture, almost as if he didn't care that it was for a criminal reason.

Oh my god I kissed a wanted man.

Gwen frowned at her own thought.

He's innocent, what am I saying.

Gwen saw a few up on the bounty board so she took one for herself. It wasn't as if she wanted to see his face or anything, she just wanted to save a poster for every time the poor fluffy haired man got another higher bounty. She wished she could just pay his bounty but sadly it didn't work that way. Xelobo was now a wanted man and he would be until he was either captured or he died.

That would be such a waste of a life. If only we could've had time to-

The den den mushi in the young marines pocket began to ring...loudly. Gwen made an audible gasp and quickly covered her mouth. Putting her hands over her pocket in an attempt to quiet the loud den den, she quickly rushed up the marine stairs to her own room. Throwing open the door at the top of the stairs and unlocking her own door, she let out a sigh and closed the door. Laying on her bed she stared at the den den until she steeled herself.

You can do this.

Picking up the den den mushi, she answered the call.

"Hello?"

After waiting what felt like a minute, he finally got an answer. It was a short and simple response of hello. What a boring way of introducing yourself to someone else, I mean everyone says hello. There are many different ways to greet someone, in any way shape or form. And all she could say was hello!?

"... Oh, Hello, this is Gwen, correct?"

And he couldn't think of anything better as well, as he felt like he was put on the spot for trying to make up a different way to greet someone. Still in the bed, he waited for Gwen to reply and give the obvioius answer of yes, she was who she was. With a smile growing on his face, he decided to reintroduce himself.

"Well, remember that promise I made you a couple days ago? Where I'd call you back after I got my hands on a Den Den Mushi? Well, here I am!"

He had no idea what to say really, so he would really be on the snail transceiver as long as Gwen was. And for some reason, he was really looking forward to talking to her in the first place. Not because he wanted to thank her for saving his life, and not because he wanted to keep a promise that he made her. It was something else that made her want to talk to her so much, and he can't place what that feeling was.

He then decided to add on to what he said earlier with,

"This is your half-winged friend, Xelobo Olagaxia speaking."

Gwen heard Xelobo's voice, confirming that it was him. The young marine was pretty sure he'd be the only one calling, but just to be sure she had to answer normally or else she might've given away who she was planning to be on a call with.

"Xelo! Oh gosh, I'm sorry I didn't answer in a different way, I just had to make sure I was talking to you first or else I might've given away some sensitive information about your escape."

Xelobo continued to talk about his promise to call here and assured that he was here now, and then reiterated that it was him. Gwen couldn't help but smile over the den den. She wasn't sure if Xelo could see that due to the weird nature of the snail phones, but she wouldn't care either way. He was safe and had made it to another island; away from the terrible marines that would be satisfied killing an innocent man.

Gwen did remember a pressing matter, however. Xelobo's bounty poster had been prominently displayed on the bounty board in the marine base and she doubted it wouldn't be in other bases.

"Xelo, It's really great to talk to you again. And I mean really great, but I need to first let you know of something you may not yet be aware of. You have a bounty now; you're wanted even though you've done nothing. I'm so sorry Xelo..."

Gwen felt like crying immediately after talking. Her voice was cracking a bit at the end of her speech and she could tell. The young marine got a grip and tried to steel herself, but she hated having a situation like this occur.

"Please let me know you're somewhere safe."
