Nezuel stood on the edge, the precipice. It wasn't the end of things, but he could see it from here. The heat gathered around him, yet he could feel it. He had to wonder which it was, the cold of his devil fruit stopping him from feeling the warmth or his body and all its toughness. Either way, it was a feeling that he wouldn't feel again, another type of feeling that had been denied to him in his life...if only he could deny other feelings as well. The feelings of a failure, of letting down the people closest to him for the simple cause of a curse. To be used against them and held accountable for some of the worst evils this world had seen. Of course, it wasn't public knowledge but as long as he knew....well, he'd hold himself responsible. The wind blew at him, tossing his hair from one side as he looked down, the red center of the core looking back at him. There had been failed attempts before...but this one would do it, he thought, what could kill the cold but the unbearable heat? All he had to do was to gather the courage to leap off of the roof, to fall, and to enter to volcano below. |

Utah, The Smith It wasn't easy to live on Blackrock Island. It was a place full of danger, hot temperatures swarming every single part of the island while some wild animals and fauna tend to eat up most of what remains from the less harsh cold. Many people died on this island while being swallowed up by the boiling water alone during their working hours, and so, unsurprisingly, this place is usually not very populated. The fear of death, you see. To say the least, that was just enough to push the lot of strangers and tourists far away from this island. So, when a sudden cold arrived on the island, it was not surprising that some of the blacksmiths that lived here caught on. The most of them ignored it all, tying it to some kind of borderline unknown natural phenomenon that people would then to pull out of their behinds whenever they have no reasoning to do something in particular. However, one man, an individual that has lived for a great while on Blackrock, stopped working instantly and decided to head on over to see what was going on. The others warned him that it came from Death's Shore, the most dangerous place of the island, but if there was one place that man visited the most, it was Death's shore, of all places available out there on this island. So, stubborn, he simply left on his own with his hands in his pockets and his trustworthy hammer on his back. There were no other protests from those who knew him after he left: they knew he would come back. After all, none can beat down Utah. It was how things were. The travel from where Utah was to Death's Shore was fairly longer than he really expected, but, in all honesty, it really wasn't that bad. The temperatures, he had simply grown accustomed to. He knew where the terrain was dangerous and where it wasn't, simply passing by them as always. The hot has always been a part of his life: things like that would not bother him. The same could not be said for the cold. It annoyed him. After all, that was why he had decided to go and see what was causing all this ruckus in the climate. Eventually, he arrived where he guessed he was bound to arrive. There, he found a man. The man was tall, taller than he was, but not by much. He was probably, excepting himself and a couple of Giants he befriended, one of the tallest Humans he had ever seen. But that did not bother him, no: what bothered him was the fact that cold seemed to downright seep away from his pores. It was like someone had left a bunch of permanent ice simply to remain there amidst the rocks of this dangerous climate. It was such a pathetic sight. He knew who this man was. He had heard a lot about him recently, especially in the recent News Coo newspapers they've been sending here on Blackrock Island even though he first heard it elsewhere. To see him made the man slightly grumpy. He knew what this man wanted to do and he knew it was wrong, but he just plainly had no idea how to engage with him. He was just... not the talkative type. So, he spoke, not feeling any particular emotion as he did so. "Yo. I've seen you in the news lately. What's up?" Oof. That's not... really the best way to start a conversation with someone that wants to commit suicide. However, it was Utah's way, even if it clearly wasn't the best. |

A breath of air left his lips as he stared down. He had heard the words the man had sent to him, pulling him from his thought for just a second before he returned to his brooding. What had he said to him? What was the point. That he had been in the news lately was of no concern to him. Wait, that shouldn't have been right. The details of what had happened with the Succubus demon had been kept secret from the world. Since then he hadn't been around on active duty, moving from place to place trying to find a place to finally rest. Why in the world would he be on the news recently if he had done nothing of note. Was it due to him not doing anything? Perhaps the Marines had finally grown impatient with him and fired him, that would make some amount of sense in this weird world. Still, if that was the case he might as well find out right before he succumbed to the final fall. "What do you mean you've seen me in the news?" he'd ask "did they tell you of my failure as a marine, as a lover, as a person? How my power and my reason for being is gone?" |

The man who spoke before Utah was Nezuel D. Tasuma, a Marine officer that is currently quite disliked by many other soldiers of the Navy due to some nasty rumours going around. What were these rumours about, you ask? The most of them were false, talking about how he had made sure to only recruit female soldiers in his personal Division just because he wanted to abuse them all (that must have probably sprouted from his relationship with Velvet G. Falcone, now that Utah thought about it, and from jealousy, most perhaps), but some of them were true. Honestly, the ones that were true were much more terrible than of the other rumours floating around. The truer rumours were all about things he had done after he disappeared on a patrol. During said patrol, he had apparently done countless things under Rosette's name, mainly forcefully enslaving individuals all across the Blues and transforming others into indescribable monsters and abominations of the flesh. The rumours were disgusting enough for many of the soldiers in the Navy and some of the damn tabloids out there writing down many horrible things about many organizations and individuals that, well, Nezuel's name was pretty much tarnished by it all. Truthfully, though, Utah and everyone else had mostly only heard about Nezuel through the news that he had come back from his disappearance after a long time. It was reported that he had disappeared a long time ago and people thought that he had actually deserted the forces for some unknown reason only normal folks like the people of Blackrock could really imagine. That was why many civilians currently hated Nezuel. It was so odd for Utah that the World Government seemingly completely forgot about Nezuel's case. Well, no... let's not make it seem that way. No, instead, let's just point out the cold hard truth about this whole situation with the ice golem: they had ignored him and decided to not do anything to save him from his personal demons. Utah knew why Rear Admiral Falcone had received so much praise for what she's done, mainly because she came out a hero and shown to the world that she was an amazing scientist... but to leave the victims like this with the most of them emotionally broken beyond repair... It's just so normal. Everything about it was normal. That's how the World Government always handled things, which was always mostly pretty poorly. It was why Utah always hated them, always hated the fact that they were the ones up there making the decisions and not him. Right now, he's apparently supposed to keep watch on some random Pirate faction here in the North Blue, people that apparently are remnants of Rosette's army or something like that. It was just something the Government wanting to give him to make him stay away from the current politics. In a way, they were right: it sure bored him to death, him, a man of his calibre, of his experience. He was lucky that Nezuel even appeared here, spicing up his day just a little bit to keep him off the edge of drowsiness. But anyways, this wasn't his story. At least, he didn't think so. So, feeling that he did need to eventually answer Nezuel, he calmly blinked in surprise, feigning ignorance to whatever the ice golem was saying, then answered: "Oh, not really. Just said you reappeared, really. I mean, you're the one who's been gone for some time, right? The guy with the ice powers?" |

"Ice powers" he said in response, the words spit out almost as an insult. Did he have ice powers, or was he simply able to create and control ice. He had such a power but not power itself. All of his power, the strength that he had believed to be within his body and mind, had been useless to her...that demon. It had been useless and ever since that time his power had been nothing more than a shadow of its former self. He wasn't worthy of the title of Rear Admiral in the same way he wasn't worthy to bear the devil fruit that he had eaten oh so long ago. Perhaps it would be passed onto one lucky person once he had passed on....no, killed himself. He would not dress it up with nice words and likewise and false sugar coating. He had ever intention of doing so...and nothing would remove it from his mind, especially not this man in front of him. He cared less about the rumours and saying that he might actually suggest. The people's image of him had never been further from his mind. What stung most deeply was the way that he looked at himself and the way the world felt now to him, more devoid of joy and life now that he knew what he once had was gone. Gone was the choice to become the great Rear Admiral Nezuel D. Tasuma again, it had been taken from him and by now given or taken by another. Even if the world remembered him from the rumours that moved through it now, about what he had done, wouldn't it be better to end the story here and let another one live? "Gone, taken, held against me will...or perhaps with my consent. It was all rather blurry. I was a monster, not that I wasn't one before." his foot slipped a bit on the gravel floor as he talked, a few small rocks falling down and down into the hot lava below incinerated as they did so. |

"Mhm... Yeah, ice powers. You're the guy I'm talking about, right? Else, I'm not sure why you would sound so pissed off about talking about them." Utah responded nonchalantly, seeming to not really be affected by the spite and the anger and the frustration that was heard within the tone of Nezuel's voice. He had tried to sound curious as to appear innocent there, simply asking questions just to ask questions, but, really, at this point, everyone could see him for who he was: a curious man who just wanted answers for a curious case. In other words, a Curious George, nothing more, nothing less. It was what Utah always tried to appear as whenever he is confronted with a situation that asks him to remain quiet and unsuspected in front of people, and it was how he always succeeded in keeping his identity a secret. After all, there was a reason why the people here knew him as only but a native and nothing else. Sure, his abilities certainly helped him out in doing such things, but it was his ability to act that made him who he was today. Hmph, and he had thought he would have ended up an actor one day... Guess he never knew he would end up as that kind of actor, a.k.a. the lying one. He knew why Nezuel was so angry. Heck, anyone whose heard of the true stories behind that lunacy that happened not too long ago between many people that had been put through that mess - mainly the ice golem, Ms. Falcone and a bunch of no-name soldiers that were apart of their personal squadrons - would immediately guess why in an instant. In an instant, that man had been taken every single bit of his body to be put under the control of another psychopath who wanted to control the world. As such, it is no surprise that he certainly feels depressed and frustrated against his own self. Ms. Falcone also suffered from a similar case, though it was mainly depression and anxiety; however, nowadays, it seems like that was better handled on her part. Certainly, suicide, here, wasn't the better option. Besides... Nezuel is still useful for the Navy, both in politics and in combat. The guy not only has ice powers, but he also has that perfect appearance. It was the kind that left chills down one's spine, the kind that people would love to see in officers. There was no way Utah was going to let that guy simply kill himself in such a pathetic way. Ugh, he could already imagine the stuff he would receive right in his face the moment that happens. "Mario, you imbecile! You could have saved him!" Yeah, that kind of stuff. Reprimands are always the shittiest stuff to handle, especially from politicians. So, when Nezuel started talking to him once more, tried to tell him about what had happened to him, Utah would simply stare at him in silence for a moment before sighing. He had already taken a step forward the moment the ice golem's foot had started slipping. The move had been so fast, Nezuel most surely did not notice it. "Hm, I don't know about that. I mean, everyone in town sees you as this hero, ya know? Like, the kind of person that would always make sure the Marines always win in everything. How is that supposed to be a monster?" A monster does not need to be monstrous to be monstrous: all it needs are the tools and the attitude. Utah, by all means, knew everything about it and perhaps so did Nezuel. |

Of course, he didn't understand, why would he? Who in their right mind would understand what he was talking about...and in the grand scheme of things who was this man really? Some random stranger he had started talking to, the first interaction that he had had in a long time? It felt like a glass of cold water had been poured into his stomach as he thought about it. He almost laughed, the action would have no doubt cleansed the feeling from his body. To feel the chill touch of uncertainty, regret, and embarrassment again. To remember some small detail or how things had changed, it happened more and more, more often than not. What he couldn't perhaps understand was, that it wasn't about not being used to the marines and not being powerful. It was the sense of having been gone for so long, with so much changing, he would feel out of place even if he tried to return. New eyes looking at him and gossiping what had happened, whispering behind his back...while the old faces would talk to him and all he would remember were the old days as the told him the good that had happened in their lives. Yes, he could be useful to the marines but right now he wasn't useful to anyone, there was no use for him here, or, he thought anywhere. A monster he was, he could make the marines win everything? Suh a preposterous idea. He was just a Rear Admiral of the marines, was or still is? Either way, he was a lowly rank on the food chain, one of the hundreds if not thousands within the organization. If they wanted someone to rally and muster behind then they should look to someone higher, someone stronger, someone...better. Hell, Velvet fit all of those, even if she was the same rank as him. People in this town saw him as a hero? Hadn't they just been talking about the rumours running around the mill, about how he had failed as a marine and more, a rehashed version of the same things said again and again? He was right in saying that all a monster needed to be a monster was the attitude and tools. He already had both, the cursed power the fruit gave him and the ability to kill and maim in the ways it provided, almost as cold as the powers the fruit gave him too. He was close to becoming one, too. Perhaps the only thing stopping him from doing so before was the constant success, fun, and company that he had had. But now everything was so different. "If the people of this town see me as a hero it's because they havn't yet heard the rumors, if they think I am unstoppable and unable to lose....well, I am nowhere near as powerful as they think. That demon didn't even have to fight me." Edited by Nezuel, Oct 26 2017, 08:18 PM.

As Nezuel still went on to complain about his lack of power, Utah, him, was simply putting his hands in his pockets now. He was growing annoyed now, annoyed of the behaviour of this once-proud man. Before all of what was happening now, Utah had checked some of the files that had been written down by the Navy alongside most of the reports that have been made by the investigation that had been conducted after what is now referred to as the "Rosette Incident" in the Marine administration jargon. Never before did he ever read about this man being so hopeless. Well, he guessed that's what happened when you take an officer and turn him into some kind of grotesque affront against nature itself. But then again, you are back to normal now: you should stop complaining and get back in the fight. Well... at least, that's how the trainers told Utah to behave. Back then, it was all "Rokushiki this" and "Rokushiki that". Boring stuff, but most certainly painful stuff amongst it all. After a while, though, constantly getting hit by bullets get boring and Tekkai just becomes a habit. It only took five bullets to make him faster that stupid move. After that, the rest was done in a matter of hours. Usually, all of those techniques had to be mastered one by one for years on end. It was hard to understand others when you are a prodigy. Nezuel wasn't really like him in the slightest. From fame amongst the administration to quite amazing abilities, Utah has never seen been through much heavy trouble unlike the guy right there. For a moment, he simply stared at the ice golem with tired eyes. He wondered what would happen if that man died there, what would happen if he failed to save him. Oh, it's not like it's going to ever happen, but... it was hard to imagine a failure when you've succeeded for so long. "Well... if it helps, I think there's only one kind of demon in this world that's worse than anything else." He then approached Nezuel and casually reached a position not too far from the ice golem's side, being almost relatively close to the hot boiling waters below. His eyes were staring at the waters for a moment, then turned towards the officer as he put a finger up and lightly tapped it against the left side of his head. "It's the personal demons. They all live in there, all brewing, all moody. They always want to make the worst of you every single day. Honestly, dude... I really believe that, right now, those demons in your head are far worse than the one you fought." He then stared at Nezuel with concern. He wasn't really concerned, but he hoped, at the least, that the ice golem would understand what he's trying to convey. If anything, he was right: at the moment, it was not Rosette who was destroying Nezuel, but instead his own personal demons, mainly sadness, frustration and depression. He needed to get a hold of himself before these demons drag him to Hell. |

When he tapped himself on the head he'd find Nezuel turning into ice, the soft touch eliciting a thought for half of his face to transform into the cold white of his true nature below. It was slow to recede so he'd see it, the cracks upon the surface like someone had stepped on a thin puddle of ice after a cold December day. The ice would retract and reform into his normal face after a few seconds, a look on Nezuel's face almost of shame or something else. It was obvious that something was not only wrong with his mind but also his powers....how could he have known that he wasn't only barely holding hims mind together...but also his body itself? "I don't know why that would happen." he would say, worry in his voice, this time not only for his own soul but another. "I wouldn't recommend being near me if it happens again " He'd turn back towards the water and the heat below, feeling it on his skin for once. "Still, thank you for the sentiment." he knew his own demons, he had faced them day after day. That he was still here was a sentiment of that. If he hadn't been fighting he would have left long ago, throwing his ashes to the wind of the next generation, bound to be stronger than he ever was. Yet the worst demon was what he felt when looking at those he once loved...well, still loved. Velvet, he hadn't seen her since the incident. She had fixed him...physically but still, he now avoided her. She could find him if she wanted to...but perhaps she understood his plight and stayed away till he was ready...or worse, he had pushed her away with his actions. He both dreaded and feared that day, looking forward to it yet running away with every ounce of his being. What would the future hold, he wondered. Still, he could almost feel as a single crack repaired itself within him, feeling better for the first time in a long time. Edited by Nezuel, Nov 6 2017, 02:22 AM.

As he watched Nezuel's body seemed to have trouble even properly controlling the frozen powers that had been bestowed to it, Utah's eyes would widen in surprise. Well, they wouldn't widen too much, just a little bit; after all, he's seen way more shocking things before than this. Nevertheless, it was a strange thing to see something like this happen, especially with someone that was told to have almost complete control over his powers. Huh... Strange... I wonder what's wrong with his ability. It did not take too long for him, however, to realize what was going on. In the stuff he heard from whatever happened in that "Battle of the Rouge" ordeal Ms. Falcone had to deal with, this guy apparently had to go through some kind of surgery of some sort, else he would have been stuck with the body of a monster for the rest of his life. He was lucky Velvet was even able to even figure out how to properly deal with this. Perhaps this somehow had an effect on this guy's abilities... but Utah doubted it, seeing as agent Ashara Ackerman did not have any issues with her Devil Fruit powers after that whole situation. Then again... Ackerman did not remain that modified body of hers for too long and wasn't cursed for too long either. At least, not as much as this guy here. How long did Nezuel remain MIA again? A couple of months? Ackerman and the others only remain in their corrupted bodies for not even a week. Maybe remaining in those "corrupted" bodies for too long changes your anatomy to the point of... Ah, crap. This guy is going to lose his powers. It was as clear as day. With his body having been modified so much by some weird Devil Fruit shenanigans, there's a very strong chance that the effects the Devil Fruit he ate had on his body have also been modified to the point that he now has much less control over his abilities. Give it time... and perhaps he is about to completely lose his powers. If that happens, then that means this person is here is probably going to be completely useless for the Marines in the near future. Well, not completely, but certainly much less important. Man, if this guy loses his powers... We could still exploit his reputation, but I don't think he's going to last long if we do something like that, unlike the robot doll. Oh well. Then again, there was also the change that he was overthinking this. After all, there has been no records whatsoever of people losing their abilities after they've eaten a Devil Fruit. Still, he needed to be careful: if this guy really doesn't have much control on his powers anymore, then perhaps this mean that this entire island can become a danger zone in an instant. He needs to be careful and think about what he has to say. "Well..." The man looked back towards the heated waters below, his hands in his pockets as he then turned his head towards the skies above. His movement felt natural, relaxed, and his eyes looked tired. He let out a sigh then. "Ya know, I've had a really, really big demon to fight once. It was a pretty disgusting one too, the kind that looks like trolls. That one... Well, I had to fight it for my entire life. In my life, there weren't many battles I believe that have been harder than the one I had to go through against that thing." He turned his head towards Nezuel then, showing his tired eyes to the ice golem. "When I was young, I once did something that I deeply regretted to my father. He and I, we then became enemies to one another for quite a while. The guy became a Pirate and I... well, the son of a Pirate who wanted to do his part for society." He then sat on the rocks, turning his head back to the heated waters below. "We fought. We fought alright. Every time I had the chance to do something to him, I did it. He hated me for it, always criticized me. Guy wanted me to become a Pirate like him, to join him. I thought it was just bullshit. Then... Well... One day, after a while in the Marines, we fought again, but this time with weapons instead of words. I killed him with my blade, a swift cut to the jugular. Do you know what his last words were?" He then crossed his arms, closing his eyes. "Why? Why haven't you joined me? We could have had fun together. Those three sentences right there? It hurt me. He became a Pirate because, out of desperation, he wanted me to actually be with him in some way or another. He didn't want to do the shit he did because he wanted to, but because he thought we could travel together and go on adventures." He then smiled and turned his head towards Nezuel again. "You and I, we probably both think Pirates are scum. However, since my father died, I had to conquer the greatest demon of all... and I beat it. If I can do that, then a guy like you surely can. I bet that there's someone out there that cares for you and currently misses you a lot. Personally, I think parting ways with death is not really the greatest way to tell them goodbye." |

He could see the fear and the realization drawing upon his mind, that he wasn't exactly stable. It was the reason he had rarely interacted with others up till this point, the reason he had avoided towns. One of his first stops had been where everything started, the island of ice. If he had died there and the fruit's power had been released somehow...well, noone would notice or be harmed. It was unfortunate that he couldn't find anything there to help him end things. He could only guess that was what would happen should he perish but still...the alternative was far worse than simply losing his own life. He hadn't had quite the control over his powers, or himself, since the incident where he went missing. The demon had given him multiple powers and a change in physical form but something had happened to what he had already...what he used to have. There was no guarantee yet if he was going to lose his powers yet the process, if that was what it was, seemed to have already started. Perhaps it was simply his system rebooting, the powers of his fruit driving out the remaining infection and reacquainting themselves with the new body he had now the same body or atleast similar to the one he had before being changed. He could see the man's eyes as he thought through the consequences, the actions. He was thinking of the fallout and his previous plans going up in flame, the plans for him. He was just like the others at the World Government then, only interested in how he could be used...and if he couldn't be used, then dealt with quietly. "So patricide" he'd say, his tone indicating that he wasn't really impressed. Truthfully it just seemed like a young man's folly. "And did you never invite him to join the marines, did he never explain himself or yourself to him?" He could blame himself for killing the man or the man for being a pirate and being killed...they were both to blame. *crack* "I don't, actually" he would say after he was quiet for a second, looking back at the man. "Consider pirates to be scum, that is." he'd clarify, turning back. "Every person has aspirations in their lives, some do the job of a marine or world government agent, some travel the seas as merchants, some simply wish for adventure and take up the jolly roger. I've never arrested a pirate that didn't have a bounty just because they were pirates...even then looking at their bounty for what. A pirate that freed slaves...is not deserving of a bounty but a medal...those that kill innocent bystanders, deserving of only death. It is someone's actions that matter, not what they label themselves as, or what others label them as." |

"I did. Multiple times, even, and that was before we fought. I sent him letters, tried to contact him via Den Den Mushi communication lines... Nothing. Solitude does that to people, I suppose: it makes you hate the world and what's it made of, makes you want to live "free". I tried giving him reason, something that could perhaps convince him to join the Marines... but, yeah, that didn't happen. Never did." It was hard for Utah to talk about things like that, pesky memories of his past that he'd rather not think about. There were small bits he changed here and there to make it less obvious and more believable for the officer, of course, but a lot of it stood true. It was the main reason why he hated Pirates and what they were supposed to be all along: a bunch of people who claimed their life to be free of the law and what the firm constructs of society are supposed to do. And that is why he was so surprised to hear that Nezuel had a rather different opinion when it came to the lives of these worthless beings. He spoke about them being quite admirable in nature, in fact, explaining that they were not scum, but instead figureheads for the truly-free. Utah stared at him then with serious eyes, his innocent smile gone. He was not pleased with what he heard, but opinions were opinions. No way that would have stood in front of an official, however. Truly, Nezuel was lucky that he wasn't in front of one of those dirty politicians... else, he cannot guess what would have happened then. To be clear, though, this did not necessarily mean that Utah entirely disagreed with what Nezuel said despite how foolish it was to see the current situation as. To him, there were no "good" and "evil" Pirates: all of them are breaking the law in some way or another and thus deserve to be arrested for the crimes they have committed. It's nice that some people are getting slaves out of their misery, but they are technically property... which means that this stands as theft in a court of law. "I suppose not everyone has the same opinion about them. After a while on this island, you get used to what people say." He let out a sigh and put his hands behind his head, staring at the sky with utmost calm. He did not seem too bothered by what Nezuel said, instead seeming natural once again. "Well, Marine duty is behind me. I've stayed here on this island ever since what happened between me and my father." |

And did the man never think about joining his father as a pirate? Did he simply have too much justice in him to live a life of carefree freedom such as that? Leaving the marines was something that Nezuel had thought about quite often recently, the changing of the old guard. He doubted that he would become anything like a pirate, perhaps moving from place to place taking out threats as he willed. He might become something akin to a bounty hunter...yet if he ever broke a law they'd be no hesitation to be labelled a criminal and a pirate, especially with what the world government knew about his past...especially the most recent past. He could sense the annoyance in the man's voice. His opinions on pirates were not something that he often spoke aloud, perhaps now was the first time it had done so...and only because he felt his death was near. In any other circumstance, he would be worried that the man would report him and he would lose some standing with the marines...not that that couldn't happen anymore. He could remember back when he had started off as a marine how his uniform had lacked the "Justice" that all other officers had upon the back. He hadn't believed in complete and true justice like the others...if he had perhaps he would have ended things already...he was a criminal after all. "Sound like a fine life to me." he would say, turning towards the man. "So why break the sudden silence to come see me?" |

"Oh, that's mostly out of coincidence. You were letting out a pretty cold wind on the island, so I decided to check it out to see what was up. That's how I found you here. Hell, I was still working with the others back in town before that. Been pretty rough lately, but the economy's still holding up pretty good." The man spoke, answering Nezuel as much as he could. There was really nothing behind it: he just found the officer randomly. He really had not expected the ice golem to suddenly appear on the island and start causing this cold wind. Truthfully, though, even now, he felt lucky to have been able to spot him before the idiot would have killed himself in the harsh waters below. That's no death a man like him deserves in the slightest... not while he is still technically useful for the World Government and the Navy. Even now, Utah was still trying to think of a way the Navy could perhaps fix him. It was truly strange to see such a happening occur within a Devil Fruit consumer's body after whatever happened with another Devil Fruit consumer. Perhaps Velvet could fix him? After all, she now has those demonic powers and she has explained to the World Government via agent Ashara Ackerman's interview that she can change her own body and other people's bodies just like Rosette could. He put his hands in his pockets then, staring at the sky again. Argh, all of this stuff was so bothersome. Why was he the one who needed to deal with this guy? He needed to get back with the others before they'll start worrying about his case. So, stretching himself, the man would give Nezuel a smile, then ask: "So, wanna get back to town? I can offer you a drink. Inns are surely more welcoming than this place, eh?" |

Perhaps it would have been best to return someplace else with the man, someone who seemed to actually give a damn about his situation, someone who tried to talk to him instead of simply blaming him for all of his failings. Perhaps all he ever really needed was someone to talk to and listen to, a new perspective on his life that could open up his possibilities to what was really important in the marine's life. Perhaps given this, and time, he would be able to fully heal both his soul, mind, body, and his devil fruit abilities...all he needed was time. Unfortunately, fate had other plans. The sound of cannon fire sounded in the area, far off in the distance he could see two ships as he turned his head, one carrying the skull and crossbones of a Jolly Roger, the other fleeing from it, its arsenal of weaponry non-existent, it was either a civilian ship or a merchant. His eyes found it and his icy heart burned with rage. He would not just stand by and watch these people murder innocents. The water and boiling heat he had been planning to kill himself upon subsided as the area quickly cooled into the same temperature as a winter's day. From his feet ice spread, spreading around the man he had been talking to, and continuing, uninhibited by the ice. Of course, he thought as he raised his hand, it wouldn't have killed me anyway. Throwing back his hand a spear of ice would start to form within, his body turning into ice as it did so, several cracks revealed to be bigger and getting bigger as the spear grew. When it was about the size of a small ship he pushed it forward, turning fully into ice and absorbing himself into the ice as it flew across the ocean toward the ship. It landed perfectly, the spear point piercing the pirate ship almost to the core, sinking it. Suddenly he was expelled from it, blood coming from his lungs as he felt the sting of the ice. He hadn't had a moments notice to wonder why he could feel such a thing before a bullet hit him. He prepared to feel himself turn into ice and the damage be negated only to find himself looking down at his blood dripped onto the deck. He fell as the Pirates unloaded several automated clips into him, first to his knees and finally falling on his face. Somewhere he could hear them around him, kicking his body and moving back to their cannons and their easy, defenceless prey. His vision filled with red, the failure, as he thought of something else that was red, something with meaning. I have to live. Yelling he forced himself up, grabbing a nearby leg as a foothold and as he felt his hand went to his face, crushing his face into the wood. He had lost his power but still had his strength. The next one shot him in the arm, it going limp as he moved forward with his off hand. The waker blow didn't finish him off, only dropped him to the ground, but it was time enough for him to grab his gun from his hand, breaking his hand in the process, and shoot him through the eye. Turning to two other he would drop them as they shot him, returning fire as he was shot in his arms and knees, both of them dropping useless. There was one left, he could see it in his red hot rage. The captain, strolling forward. He could tell his wounds were serious, his arms hung limp, his legs were bleeding, He underestimated the one weapon he had left. As he moved closer, the gun lifting directly in front of his face, he struck. Even as the trigger was pulled, the spark igniting, the bullet slowly moving, he dodged out of the way. With a growl he forced himself up and up, up towards the man's throat. Opening his mouth the marine could taste the sweet copper taste of the captain's blood as he ripped out his throat. He spit out the skin and flesh, however, some of it kept in his teeth. With a *THUD* he dropped to the floor, his chin lifted as the bullet wounds bled. He tried reaching for the red thing he sought after but his arms wouldn't move, he wanted to live, to fight. Suddenly after trying to end it all after so long he had to find the one thing he had been avoiding. He began to see it in front of him, salvation. He reached for it harder and harder, he opened his mouth, attempting to take it only for blood to rush into his mouth. It seemed to call to him, moving towards him, taking him. Everything was red Then everything went black |
