As Dorian awoke with a bit of a headache he rubbed the back of his head. "Ay... shhh." He hissed as he rubbed a temple then felt around the back of his head, a bit of a lump formed… He shook his head as he felt the wood floor shift beneath him, the telltale sign of being on a ship. What? Weren't he and Nisha supposed to be staying on the island last night? He remembered them talking about it before they split up, but his head was too fuzzy. "Ya awake there, boyo?" A gruff masculine voice, deep and gravelly stirred him from stewing in whatever fog was filling his head. The human looking fishman snapped out of it at the sound of an unfamiliar voice. Well this ruled out anything he would have done with Nisha last night. He looked to the other side of the room see an old weathered looking man, muscled in the sort of way you only see on people who woke up and did a job every day, whether and thin too. "What... Where are we, old man? We're out at sea?" He looked around, the small room was mostly empty other than a bucket and a set of bars facing an identical looking cell with a few other unlucky souls. A brig? Dorian swore under his breath as the man nodded. "Not surprised you don't remember with how they drugged you, but I was surprised ya were still conscious when they brought ya in here... This ship is the Quick Buck, run by our captor, Pirate Captain S. Linebeck. Real piece of work, snagged folk like us from bars or in alleys.” He added in a hushed tone at the end. “Ya were struggling a bit too when they brought ya in, but ya looked more like ya were playing with them than fightin'." The man explained in a sad tone. "Probably the drug they got you with. Bashed ya on the back of the head anyway to get ya in the cell here." The man frowned. "Ya alright, boyo? That tainted booze they use to catch pour bastards like us is nasty business." Dorian frowned. "I've had worse drinks than whatever they got me with before." He frowned, looking rather miffed that he'd gotten himself into this mess, instinctively reaching for a flask and took a sip, only a second later realizing something. "Ay, Dios mío... I got caught by amateurs." He shook his head. I can't believe the idiots didn't search me! He grinned slightly as he looked around, taking a drink before putting it back away in his jacket. He put his hat back on at a jaunty angle. "I'm Dorian, but you can call me 'Red', old man." He said, taking stock of himself, patting his jacket and checking his sleeves. Unbelievable even his weapons were still there. The man frowned, shaking his wrinkled head and stroking his long white beard, the only hair left on his head. “Red, huh? I’ve seen that look in yer eye before… only causes trouble, ya hear.” He frowned and got a sad look on his face shaking his head again. “Well, get up quick, boyo, and hide that stuff of yours real good, we’re gonna have to swab the deck soon or the crew’ll tan our hides.” Dorian nodded and narrowed his eyes, he’d play along for now, until he could figure out a plan… first he needed to get a lay out of the ship. As the pieces began to fall into place in his mind, a big burly pirate came down, brandishing a bullwhip. “All right you sorry sods, you work for captain Linebeck now!” The man said with an ugly grin, missing a few teeth in his mean smile. “And now, I’m gonna put you lot to work. Time to scrub the deck, maggots!” Dorian feigned fright and nodded in faux obedience. Lovely. ~~~~~~~~~ It only took a bit of time to figure out the lay out of the small ship as he scrubbed the deck. He also found out that for some reason they left a big barrel of pitch in the galley near the powder room for some reason and they were sailing slowly through some pretty murky water. “Morons.” Since he had an estimate of their crew now, maybe… eight pirates total? They didn’t seem smart enough to have more than one person on night watch duty either. “Now, all I have to do is walk the plank.” ~~~~~~~~~ “AHHHHHH!” He put on a good scream to really sell it as he was pushed off the side of the ship into the water. Well, that was easier than I thought it would be. He thought to himself, actually rather smug that this was working. All it had taken was a few choice statements about the captain’s mother and a horse and comparing their jolly roger to a ‘The shape of a pile of a dog’s shit after sitting in the sun for three days’. Apparently the captain had drawn the unfortunate flag, so he took exception to both of those things. Dorian kicked in the water to keep himself up. His arms were tied behind his back, so he made a show of splashing about and swallowing some water, making the sounds of sputtering and choking. “Something just touched my leg!” He shouted as the pirates laughed and the other prisoners looked on horrified. He thrashed a bit, pretending to struggle a bit before sinking down below the water suddenly, as if he had gotten dragged under. Soon as he got deep enough his fins, still covered in their metal blades, snapped forward, cutting the bonds and freeing his arms. Well, that was the easy part. He still couldn’t believe he’d gotten caught by these imbeciles of all people. Oh well, at least they had made this easier what with not searching him at all. Still, he was going to miss this wine. After making sure to grab his hat an tuck it in a jacket pocket, he pulled out a large wine skin from under his jacket. It wasn’t great wine, but damn if he hated to use it like this. Still, he had to be sure they bought his ‘death.’ He opened the container of red wine, then another, squeezing them empty and towards the surface of the murky water, and again with his second. There went all the sweet red ambrosia on him, but with any luck his captors would think it was blood. That done he swam towards the hull and slipped blade into the wood in the side, anchoring him to the side of the ship under the water and out of view thanks to the silt in the ocean here. He pulled out a flask with his other hand and opened it, drinking it along with the murky water and sucking it empty. It was getting dark already. Now, He just had to wait for the pirates to get to sleep. ~~~~~~~~~ It was only a little bit before he found himself climbing up the side of the boat, using his fins as hooks by digging into the side of the ship to pull himself up. He peaked over the side the ship. Sure enough, one guard, the big pirate from earlier with the missing teeth. Well, he didn’t want to wake the others up so he’d have to keep this quiet. The man was looking off the other side of the boat and shook his head, clearly bored as he seemed to turn and take a seat on the lip of the vessel. Dorian slunk back down and went under the boat, quietly climbing up the other side behind the other man. Peaking up real quick to make sure he wasn’t noticed he skulked up the side of the ship and quickly moved his hand to tightly grab the man’s mouth, slipping the blade between the big pirate’s ribs fast as he held him in place with more strength than the pirate expected for an assailant of Dorian’s size. The pirate’s body shuddered and slumped as life left him. Dorian scowled at the blood on his weapon, dripping down onto his shirt and jacket where his blades had torn themselves free of his sleeves. “Sorry friend, if it wasn’t just me I’d have tried to take you all in alive.” He shook his head, but it was just him and he had some other prisoners to free and a final bit of escape to make. ~~~~~~~~~ Jeremiah looked like he’d seen a ghost when Dorian made his way down the steps. “Red boyo?! But, you-“ Dorian held up a single finger and shushed him as he flapped his fins a bit. “I’m very much alive. Fishman, by the way. Now, be quiet while I get these doors open.” He said, holding up a key to the lock and pulling it open, letting the old man out before letting the other men out from the other cell. “Ya killed the guard?” The old man said, shocked as he followed Dorian up the stairs. “What the bloodstains didn’t give it away, my friend?” He shook his head a bit and grimaced from the unpleasant memory. “Bit grim I know but-“ An angry shout from above deck interrupted him. “OI! JONNY YOU DUMB SHIT THERE’S A FIRE GOING! WHERE ARE YOU YOU STUPID ASS!” And that was the captain. Fire? He hadn’t started on yet, even if he’d gotten the powder room ready to go off like a cheap firecracker “Talk later. The life boat on the port side of the ship is our ace here. Run to it once I rush the good captain.” He’d already sabotaged the other one after all. He peaked up the top of the stairs, seeing the captain close to where the life boat was, but looking towards the other end of the ship while he was cursing up a storm. It looked like it was going to be a fight, but he could probably at least get the drop on the man before the other pirates roused. He ran toward the small vessel hanging by some ropes off the side, pushing the captain off the side as he was caught off guard while he was looking for the other pirate. “A bit anticlimactic that.” He didn’t expect that to work, and as the captain fell, hitting his head on the way down before splashing limply into the water, Dorian noticed a lit cigar fall from the man’s mouth. “Ah, that would explain the fire.” He muttered, smelling the smoke already as the former prisoners got aboard the life boat quickly as the other pirates got up in a hurry from the noise. Once they were all on, he cut the rope holding the boat, causing it to splash in the water with the other prisoners in it. “Start rowing away from the ship!” He told them, and the old man in particular looked as if he wanted to protest but Dorian turned away as he looked at the pirates which had just made their way to above deck. “Gentlemen! Amigos!” He hopped up on top of the side of the ship as he addressed the stunned looking pirates, getting ready to jump off the vessel. “It’s been fun… I’d say it’s been a blast, but I think I need to be going before that becomes true!” He laughed as they started to run towards him. “Goodbye!” He turned and jumped off the side, extending the fins on his forearms to glide through the air before shifting into a dive a distance away from the ship and towards the fleeing life boat. Not a few moments later as the pirates were looking on confused by the display as Dorian disappeared beneath the surface of the water, the powder stores in the ship burst in a violent explosion, taking the Quick Buck and its unlucky crew with it in a fireball. Dorian surfaced near the life boat to equally shocked prisoners a moment or two later. “Damn braindead captain smoking near the powder room nearly got us killed too after all my careful work of sabotaging it.” He said as he climbed on, the men making room as he took a seat, pulling his wet hat from his jacket and putting it back on before pulling out a flask. Taking their shocked expressions as que to keep talking, he did so. “Well, lucky for us, I'm a navigator.” He looked up to the sky and took out his compass, studying them both for a moment before taking a hearty drink. “Land should be that way.” He said pointing before offering Jeremiah his flask and putting the thing away, taking an ore in hand. “So, why don’t we take turns rowing? I’ve got enough drinks for us all if you lot have a song or two to help pass the time. Cheers.” Fin. Edited by RedLunar, Nov 29 2017, 05:19 AM.

Graded. An excellent start to a new char, reminiscent of the first one piece episode but even better. For next time, you'll find a grading thread in the sea symposium section of our forum. Dorian: 9DP 7,000,000
