v.20 Trailer

Posted by Sage (Admins) at Dec 19 2015, 12:47 AM. 0 comments

Kept you waiting, huh?

I'm not saying v.20 will release on Christmas, but also I'm not saying it won't. ;)

And before I forget, a big thanks to Jfalcon for the trailer! He somehow managed to make a great trailer out of the terrible gameplay footage I gave him to work with. Check him out, he does random gameplay videos and other cool stuff. Posted Image

This version has taken a while because just about everything has been rewritten, save for a few things that won't be updated until v.30. The collision is new and improved, with collision glitches pretty much being a thing of the past. The frame rate has also been updated. Oh, and did I forget to mention the widescreen option? Yeah, if you didn't notice in the trailer, OoT 2D now has widescreen. :D

Updates regarding the collision and the widescreen have required many things to be redone, however. This is what has caused the project to get so far behind the release date that was previously planned (if there even was one). Since these things will not have to be redone again in the future, however, future releases can be completed and released in a much more timely manner!

Work on OoT 2D has not ceased yet, and the project quality is finally getting to the quality that was originally being shot for. Way too much has been invested now for it to just be canceled, so stick around for the cool stuff. Shame on anyone who thought otherwise. xD

News regarding team restructuring
Everyone has gotten quite busy with things like work, school, etc, so the people that we have officially part of the team have been cut down to just myself and Dervilacus for now. Community contributions are still welcome, but if we can get one more artist on the "official" team to assist with maps, that would be great! Please PM me with samples of your work if you are interested. Posted Image

Zeldathon
Finally, don't forget to check out Zeldathon.net this month on the 26th. They are a nonprofit organization that streams Zelda gameplay for charity, so if you are feeling generous, stop by their website! :D

Welcome back, friends.

Because the same respectable people who spammed the website before are back, registrations are, once again, closed. You know you're doing something right when people will waste hours of their lives trying to get you to ragequit when they could be doing much more productive things with their time. ^_^

Envy or hatred, choose your poison. ;)

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for 100k downloads!

Posted by Sage (Admins) at Apr 13 2015, 10:14 PM. 0 comments

OoT 2D broke 100k downloads recently (102,358 as of this post)... that's a high number of downloads for anything, let alone a poorly-coded Zelda fan-game! xD

We weren't far off from 100k when I started implementing the online multiplayer. What better way to thank the fans than to program a few new features? ;)

Some of the previous code for it was reused, but a custom API is now programmed for online multiplayer. Currently, different Links can be in different maps at the same time, the engine can store at least two-hundred Links at the same time, there is a character select screen, and an item that can be used only during multiplayer. It also works over LAN.

What are we doing for 200k*? I have no idea! xD We'll probably come up with something by then. ;)

Credits for helping test this:
  • PwnzLPs
  • originaLink
  • Sam Clarke
And a shout out to Dervilacus, Gamekrazzy, and mfgravesjr for the new and improved Deku Baba and Beamos sprites in the video! :D

* Or maybe 250k or 300k, gotta set that number higher since the project is becoming more popular! xD

New theme!

Posted by Sage (Admins) at Mar 4 2015, 07:35 PM. 0 comments

First, a round of applause to Klaufel, the web programmer who stepped up to the task of creating a forum theme that matches the website! :D

Posted Image

Wow. I always thought his avatar was Link holding a book or a map, but it's actually Link blowing in a cartridge! XD Anyway, yeah, that's his avatar.

Further updates to the website itself will be implemented upon the release of OoT 2D v.20, which, yes, is still being made.

Cool new tiling guide

Posted by Sage (Admins) at Feb 5 2015, 11:47 PM. 0 comments

Gamekrazzy made a cool guide about the technical stuff in ALttP's maps, the art style, and tiling! Check it out: http://forums.oot-2d.com/topic/10959899/1/

And GodsTurf made a bunch of emoticons:  :P :X ^o) :-/ :'( B-) -_- :ermm:  :$ :D :O  :( ^_^ ;) :)

It's like if you put emotions on a cat.

Then, you copied the emotions from the cat and put them on Link, who usually has no emotion at all. That's what makes it funny!

Updated Market!

Posted by GodsTurf (Members) at Jan 16 2015, 05:15 PM. 0 comments

So as we all know, when the Market first was made, it kind of looked wonky and weirdly oriented.

Now, thanks to user Gamekrazzy, programmer/Admin CheerfulSage, and a few other contributors, the Market now looks much better, and much closer to the original OoT!

The Market now has all shops funtional and includes the Back Alley!

This and much more will now be included in the newest version, v.20! :D

v.15 Release and new web layout

Posted by Sage (Admins) at Oct 31 2014, 10:28 PM. 0 comments

Not as much is in this version as was initially planned (online multiplayer), so a few things were rushed to make it in time for Nintendo CFC, if the booth even goes through. There is still plenty of new content, and all of it is detailed in the update log. Similarly to v.10 and the subsequent v.10.2, some game-breaking glitches may come from nowhere. If so, report them and we will try to get them taken care of as soon as possible. On that note, forum registrations are now open again.

Credits go to Klaufel for the astounding new web layout!

Hyrule Castle Courtyard!

Posted by GodsTurf (Members) at Oct 4 2014, 06:12 PM. 0 comments

New update!

Here is a showcase of the newest coded NPC, the guards!

These now have a new look, designed by Aeroblast43o9, the ability to detect Link, and patterns for their movement, which they can now walk with!

Tell us what you think, and what'd you'd like to see next!
Hope to hear from you soon!

Playable Ocarina!

Posted by GodsTurf (Members) at Sep 20 2014, 09:20 PM. 0 comments

Okay, time for some actual game updates!

For the newest version, the ability to play the ocarina has been added!
Now for the first time in a 2D renedition, the name Ocarina of Time, will make sense!

On top of that, to add to the world, backgrounds will be made to represent each place!
Here is some footage of the feature, so far:

Some things that are already being updated:
> The background music will cut off completely as soon as a song is played.
> The song effect that plays will fade in rather than just appear
> The "Correct Sequence" sound will play after the song is correctly performed.

Have fun, and let us know what you think! :D

New Smiley Set!

Posted by GodsTurf (Members) at Sep 6 2014, 11:41 PM. 0 comments

As an update to the site, we have replaced the old default boring smiley set with an epic new one to match Link's face in ALttP!

These ones show the many expressions of Link in 16 epic bits!

Have fun with the new emoticons, and feel free to suggest more!
:) ;) ^_^ :( :O :D  :$ :ermm: -_- B-) :'( :-/ ^o) :X :P
