Battle Tactic - Ninja

The ninja is a tactic used for ambushing an attacking army by concealing one's true defensive strength. There are many variables of this tactic.

Solo Ninja

The defender keeps his army hidden and a large amount of resources sitting in his city. The resources will serve as bait to lure an army to attack. Once you see the attach coming, just a few seconds before it hits, unhide your troops and enjoy the fireworks. Immediately after the attack hide your troops again to avoid any follow ups with larger armies. It is imperative that you have at least a level 8 Watch Tower so you know exactly what kind and how many units are attacking you. Needless to say, don't attempt a ninja on an army that would do more damage to you than you to it.

Keep in mind that some attackers might use speed ups to mess up the timing of your ninja attempt. It is my suggestion to NOT unhide earlier than you have to because that will leave you exposed for a long time during which other armies could also speed attack you and destroy you. It's better to just let them take the resources and waste speed ups than to lose all your might. Only open up a few seconds before the attack hits and close again immediately after.

Group Ninja

Again, you can sit a large amount of resources to lure enemy attacks. When you see an incoming attack, stay hidden and immediately request reinforcements in the Alliance Chat. Chances are the reinforcing armies will have to use speed ups to get there before the attacker so do use them if necessary but make sure to time the march so that the armies get there only a few seconds before the attack hits. Again, just a few seconds before it hits, unhide your troops and enjoy the fireworks. Immediately after the attack hide your troops again and have the reinforcing armies recalled to avoid any follow ups with larger armies. It is imperative that you have at least a level 8 Watch Tower so you know exactly what kind and how many units are attacking you. A high level Embassy is also recommended so that you can fit several armies to minimize loses. Needless to say, don't attempt a group ninja on an army that would do more damage to you than you and your allies would do to it.

It's better to just let them take the resources and waste speed ups that to lose all your might. Only open up and reinforce a few seconds before the attack hits and close again and recall armies immediately after.

Two City Ninja

For those of you lucky (or rich) enough to have a second city, ninjas are quite easy to pull off. Again, sit a large amount of resources in one of your cities and leave it unprotected by troops, this will make attackers eyes gleam at the shining loot. When they attack, you know what to do. Send your troops from your second city to your first city so they arrive right before the attack hits, unhide and enjoy the fireworks. Immediately after the attack hide your troops again to avoid any follow ups with larger armies; recall them to your second city if you want to but always hide them first since it's quicker. It is imperative that you have at least a level 8 Watch Tower so you know exactly what kind and how many units are attacking you. Needless to say, don't attempt a ninja on an army that would do more damage to you than you to it.

As a side note, use your common sense to both improve this tactic and to prevent it from happening to you. If you scout a player with, say, 1,000,000 might, and his city has large amounts of resources but no troops or defenses at all, it's pretty obvious he has a second city where all the troops are. Be very careful in this situation. On the other hand, to improve this tactic, it would be a good idea to leave a considerable amount of troops hidden inside the city where the bait resources are sitting. That way, your chances of pulling this off increase since most players will be careless and lazy enough to not check if the amount of troops matches your might and thus the trap will be more effective.

TK Ninja

Some players out there are not looking to steal your resources but to kill your troops or defenses, use these as baits. This is the case for wars as well. When you get scouted by a hostile alliance player or a known TK player, attackers would usually scout and if they see a large amount of troops or defenses, they'll attack with a single unit to see if the defender's troops are hidden or not. As soon as you see the single unit attack coming, unhide your troops only a few seconds before it hits and then hide again. Keep an eye on the attacks because some players will send two or more of these test attacks just to make sure you are not setting a trap, just repeat the process as many times as needed, being constantly checking is the key. This would also be a good time to notify everyone in the Alliance Chat to be ready to reinforce you. Eventually, if the attacker launches his main army at you, immediately request reinforcements in the Alliance Chat and proceed exactly as the Group Ninja tactic.

One thing you have to be aware of when facing hostile players or TKs is that sometimes they'll try to have your ninja backfire on you. What they will do is send an army small enough for you to destroy it just to make you open up. Afterwards, right before that first army hits, they'll send and speed up a second or more armies to hit you at about the same time. Since they are using speed ups, you will probably not notice them or it will be too late when you do. My suggestion is to quickly gather some information about your attacker as soon as you see the first attack coming. For example, if he has 1,500,000 might and he's attacking you with 20,000 troops against your hundreds of thousands, he is most likely trying to set you up for a backfire ninja, do NOT open up, just be logical about it. Another indicator of this is if you are being attacked by a player whose alliance we are at war with, it's most likely a trap.

Finally, the safest ninja, and the one we should constantly attempt especially against players with who we are at war is an all out level 9 ninja. By this I mean coordinating the defense so that nine armies reinforce a single city. If they're trying to have your ninja backfire on you or just attacking you in several waves, chances are it will only be coming from a couple of players but not from nine. I have never seen nine armies attacking someone at once, even when we coordinate raids the most I've seen is only about six or seven. If we can coordinate it well, we could do MASSIVE damage since we could easily zero two or three players by massing nine of our armies against them.

As with any tactic, remember there are two sides to it so now that you know how ninja works, you also know how to prevent it from happening to you.

General Tips:

- Have at least a level 8 Watch Tower.
- Have at least a level 6 Embassy.
- Whenever you attempt a ninja, make sure your highest hero is assigned to the Training slot, that will make him lead the troops in the defense and minimize casualties.
- Better to lose resources than might.
- Do not rely on defenses, unless you are using them as bait against TKs or hostile players.
- T1 > T2 > T3. It's best to defend with 100,000 T1s than with 10,000 T3. Keep the ratios high for T1.
