General Nazgrim 25-man heroic strategies.

Last week we had our first real hour of progression on heroic Nazgrim.
10 tries. The first 9 were messy. And we got only half-way.

The last try was pretty good.
We got General Nazgrim to 6%.
With a little adjustment we should kill him this week, without much problems.

There is a guide on MMO-Champion, in a thread on their forums.
I like this guide best.

The whole trick of the Nazgrim fight is in the last 2-3 minutes.
During the fight, 10 waves of 3 adds spawn. When Nazgrim reaches 10% health, he spawns an extra wave, with 5 adds.
Fighting a regular wave, plays that last big wave at the same time, is very tricky.
Therefor the best strategy is to deal with all 10 regular waves first.
And only then, when all regular waves are killed, we push Nazgrim to 10%, and burn him down to 0%.

The best way to do this is by pushing him to 10% at the 1-minute mark.
We then have 1 minute to burn that last 10% health.
When you look at the time table, it becomes clear why the 1-minute mark is the best (or only) option.

During minute 9, Nazgrim is in Defensive stance. So we can't burn him in the 9th minute.
Just before the 9th minute, the 10th and last normal wave is spawning.
So we deal with the last wave in the 9th minute, during Defensive Stance.
And then when Defensive Stance ends, we burn Nazgrim to 0%.

During that last minute, there will be 5 adds. We need 1 tank (or 2 tanks) to keep the Shaman away from Nazgrim.
And we need to keep the IronBlade away from the raid.
And one healer needs to deal with the Sniper.
That means the Arcweaver and the Assassin can roam around free.
Do we still need to tank-swap during that minute ? I guess so.
When there is an Assassin, hunters should put down a flare, to prevent the Assassin from going into Stealth. (They probably already do this).

The waves are always the same.
We have 2 DKs, so every wave we can grip 2 adds and place them on top of Nazgrim.
Ironblade and Sniper should not be gripped.
Priority: Shaman > Arcweaver > Assassin > Sniper > Ironblade.
Or: Shaman > Sniper > Arcweaver > Assassin > Ironblade.
Only in wave 8 there is no Sniper nor an Ironblade. We can grip only 2 of the 3 adds.
Waves 9 and 10 have both Sniper and Ironblade, and only 1 can be gripped.
All other waves, 1 adds needs not to be gripped, other 2 adds will be put on top of Nazgrim.

W1: Arcweaver, Assassin, Ironblade
W2: Shaman, Assassin, Sniper
W3: Shaman, Arcweaver, Ironblade
W4: Arcweaver, Assassin, Sniper
W5: Shaman, Assassin, Ironblade
W6: Shaman, Arcweaver, Sniper
W7: Assassin, Sniper, Ironblade
W8: Shaman, Arcweaver, Assassin
W9: Shaman, Sniper, Ironblade
W10: Arcweaver, Sniper, Ironblade

In our last try last week, Nazgrim was at 21% at the 1-minute mark.
We wiped at 6%.
That means we burned 15% off his health in just 1 minute.
If we can get Nazgrim to 11-14% at the 1-minute mark, we have the kill.
That means that during the first 8 minutes, we need to do a little more dps.
We did not try to optimize our dps at all, so I am sure there is a lot we can do to improve.
E.g. the rogues (me) who are not good at switching mobs, could stay on Nazgrim, and just cleave on the adds that get pulled in by the DKs.

Time table.
1st: time left till berserk, 2nd: New Stance,
3rd: percentage we had Nazgrim last week, 4th: percentage Nazgrim should be this week.

10 mn Going into Battle Stance - 100% -> 100%
9 min Going into Berserker Stance - 78% -> 76%
8 min Going into 1st Defensive Stance - 67% -> 63%
7 min Going into Battle Stance - 65% -> 61%
6 min Going into Berserker Stance 57% -> 52%
5 min Going into 2nd Defensive Stance 45% -> 39%
4 min Going into Battle Stance - 43% -> 37%
3 min Going into Berserker Stance - 33% -> 26%
2 min Going into last (3rd) Defensive Stance - 24% -> 14%
1 min Going into last Battle Stance, burn down - 21% -> 13%
0 min Nazgrim is dead.[/code]

Nazgrim down ! An applause for ourselves !

Just for fun, I compared the health percentages. What I thought was needed, and what we actually got during our first kill.

Minutes left - What I predicted - What we actually did.
---
10. 100% - 100%
9. 76% - 77%
8. 63% - 63%
7. 61% - 61%
6. 52% - 53%
5. 39% - 40%
4. 37% - 38%
3. 26% - 29%
2. 14% - 16%
1. 13% - 13%
0. Nazgrim died with 20 seconds left on the enrage-timer.

So those numbers were pretty accurate. :)
We were always within 1% of our goal.
Only at the 3 minute mark we fell behind 3%. I noticed that. Trusted the team, kept my mouth shut, ignored the adds, let the others kill the adds, and I concentrated on Nazgrim. Used my 2nd pot, concentrated on my rotation. And hopefully I burned off that extra 1%. And then in the 9th minute, when Nazgrim was in defensive stance, the tanks dps-ed an extra 1%. That gave us the last minute to burn down the last 13%. We had 22 people standing, and did that 13% in only 40 seconds.

On to Mal'korok.
