About Oriole Academy.

Oriole Academy, headed by Dr. Ulysses McGriff, is an academy at the same time a home for orphans in the middle of an alternate Victorian London claustrophobic with pipes and cogs and turning gears of machines. The Academy is dedicated to sheltering orphans from the bitter reality of the city; and also molding and nourishing their young minds towards science and technology. In other words this is a Steampunk Roleplay.

The academy was founded in 1852 by a well-known scientist, Dr. Ulysses McGriff, who was known for supplying the British army with his innovative and "from-the-future" weapons, some of them were: his well-known plasma gun, enormous automatons, and his innovative "sticky" bomb. He built this academy, after his time in the army, to use his intellectual mind to help the orphans in their lives. He used a small fortune to buy the estate here on Kennsington Street and restored the old and abandoned Cauwenberghe Mansion.

The Headmaster provided all of his students, that he considered his family, with all their needs and taught them with everything he knows, even the knowledge of making weapons. Because of this, he ordered the orphans to hide this secret within the walls of the mansion; for it would unbecoming of him if people were to know he was teaching children to make weapons and training them to use it. From this, the three factions were born. First were the Tinkers, the scientists, their knowledge that they have developed was used in making weapons and new machines and automatons. Then there were the Watchers, silent and observant, they guarded the fences of the Cauwenburghe Mansion, alerting everyone for trouble. And lastly were the Fighters, the strong and bold, equipped with heavy weapons, they deal with trouble like unknowing burglars and syndicates. And even before the Headmaster noticed, the Academy has flourished into a community.

The Academy accomplished many feats. They formed vigilante groups to rescue children from syndicates and brothels, all the while without the headmaster's knowledge. Scotland Yard even struggled to get a glimpse of this group who they called as Night Watchers. Because of them, the crime rates in London decreased by half in a month.

After a few months of consecutive rescue operations, a member of the Scotland Yard caught a glimpse of one of the Night Watchers' and remembered one of their faces. he marched to Oriole Academy in the middle of the night and demanded to see Dr. McGriff at once. The detective informed the headmaster of what he saw and much to his shock, the headmaster knew all about this for a long time now. The two
of them made a deal: that the orphans will keep doing their vigilante operations while the Scotland Yard will ignore them and mind their own business in exchange for a helping hand in solving and accomplishing cases.

For years, the Academy grew and grew-like how time keeps moving forward and never backward. The orphans accomplished great thing bigger than themselves. The tinkers kept on making weapons and invented stronger equipments that fitted the other factions' liking. Crime rates decreased and decreased until Scotland Yard finally got there deserved rest. As the cogs and gears turned, so did the Academy. it turned towards prosperity. But nothing is permanent.

On July 14, 1867, Fischerberg, a dictatorial country from the far north, launched an all-out invasion on London, therefore destroying it. Miraculously,Cauwenberghe Mansion wasn't heavily damaged and none of the terrified residents were hurt; Dr. McGriff hid them in a secret basement.

Now, all of them are living a secret life; away from the eyes of the Fischerberg army. Patiently waiting for the day to have their chance to take back London for Britain.
